Film festival

A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Festival

A festival is an event ordinarily celebrated by a community and centering on some characteristic aspect of that community and its religion or traditions, often marked as a local or national holiday, mela or eid. Next to religion and folklore, a significant origin is agricultural. Food is such a vital resource that many festivals are associated with harvest time. Religious commemoration and thanksgiving for good harvests are blended in events that take place in autumn, such as Halloween in the northern hemisphere and Easter in the southern.

Festivals often serve to fulfill specific communal purposes, especially in regard to commemoration or thanksgiving. There was never any doubt that he would be the ideal composer for Mishima, a mosaic film biography. I wanted a score which would unite the film's disparate elements and propel it forward. Such a score, by definition, would be a distinct, cohesive composition. I only wondered how to induce Glass. Money was out of the question: the film was already an egregiously under-budgeted labor of love production. I opted for a soft sell. (I've subsequently learned how remarkably resistant Philip is to a hard one.) I simply gave him the script and all the materials by and about Mishima at my disposal. Philip responded enthusiastically and after several pre-production meetings and a trip to the Tokyo locations, wrote a score from the script as he would from a libretto. With Kurt Munkacsi and Michael Riesman he recorded a temp synthesizer version. I edited the film to this temp score, altering it as necessary: cutting, expanding and repeating cues. I then played the edited film and score for Philip. He rewrote the music to fit the film's now-precise specifications and recorded it with a full orchestra. Later, he supervised last-minute changes during the final mix. In keeping with the original concept, Glass has re-edited the score as a distinct musical entity. Set to the song "Slow Show" by The National, who were kind enough to allow me to use their music. It is a non-commercial short film, intended for festivals. It is shot in the forests surrounding Viborg, Denmark. My main inspiration was victorian litterature, and "Boxer" by the national. It was painful to finish, as shooting stop motion in the forest at night for longer periods turned out to offer alot of problems :) But it was also great fun and adventure. MTV EMA 2012 Opener
Show package produced in partnership with MTV, for the 19th annual MTV European Music Award, broadcasted live from Frankfurt’s historic Festhalle on Sunday, November 11, 2012. We created and directed a 20 second sequence, and opener, bumper and closer alterations from 2 to 20 seconds length, revolving around a huge Zoetrope, a fast-moving carousel which evokes the illusion of motion through a fast succession of static elements which come to life with a stroboscopic light. The animated sequence is a journey through time and space, transcending the ancient Zoetrope concept which stems from pre-Christian Chinese culture to our modern global society. A band lives the American Dream, symbolizing the ascent of a basement musician to stardom across the horizontal zoetrope layers. They move from the underground scene to stardom with the help of their fans and social networks, finally reach the top of the carousel and perform at the MTV EMA. The realization of the main trailer and more than a dozen alterations raised technical challenges and led Sehsucht to finding unique solutions. To be able to create an extremely realistic look, Maxwell Render was chosen as render technology. 3D design was implemented in the character design at an early stage. The tool Pixologic Sculptris enabled intuitive character work by designing 3D characters and using the models instantly. Animating the elements was a further challenge since the complete zoetrope is a virtual scale model, nothing is faked. Therefore, everything had to work in loops built in 24 single 'sculptures'.
