Iran (/aɪˈræn/ or i/ɪˈrɑːn/;Persian: Irān – ایران [ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), also known as Persia (/ˈpɜːrʒə/ or /ˈpɜːrʃə/), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran (جمهوری اسلامی ایران – Jomhuri ye Eslāmi ye Irān [d͡ʒomhuːˌɾije eslɒːˌmije ʔiːˈɾɒːn]), is a country in Western Asia. It is bordered to the northwest by Armenia, the de facto Nagorno-Karabakh, and Azerbaijan; with Kazakhstan and Russia across the Caspian Sea; to the northeast by Turkmenistan; to the east by Afghanistan and Pakistan; to the south by the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman; and to the west by Turkey and Iraq. Comprising a land area of 1,648,195 km2 (636,372 sq mi), it is the second-largest country in the Middle East and the 18th-largest in the world. With 78.4 million inhabitants, Iran is the world's 17th-most-populous country. It is the only country that has both a Caspian Sea and an Indian Ocean coastline. Iran has long been of geostrategic importance because of its central location in Eurasia and Western Asia, and its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz.

Michelle Caruso-Cabrera reports on the hurdles facing investors who are looking to do business in Iran.
It has been less than two weeks since international sanctions were lifted on Iran. And President Hassan Rouhani has wasted no time in seizing new opportunities, embarking on a trip to Europe in which he's signed billions of dollars worth of new business for Iran. As leader of a country that's been isolated for so long, Rouhani probably knows the importance of a charm offensive. And this trip, in which he's met French and Italian leaders, as well as the Pope, is also about restoring Iran's image and position in the world. Rouhani says the visit marks a "new spring" in relations with Europe. With European nations ready to cash in on Iran's return to the global economy, will money help restore Iran's position in the world? And who stands to benefit from Iran opening up? Presenter: Jane...
Entering the Iranian market is not without its challenges. With international sanctions gone, Iran has become an interesting market for foreign trade, but also for investors. They want to invest money or buy Iranian resources. More from DW's business desk: http://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/business/s-1431

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has started a shopping tour in Europe just days after the lifting of international sanctions over Iran's nuclear programme. He wants to let the world know that Iran is back in business. And European companies are lining up for a share in the Iranian market - promising billions of dollars in new deals. But what does the end of Iran sanctions mean for the global economy? As President Rouhani is signing billion-dollar deals to rebuild his country, we look at the biggest new market entering the global economy in decades. US and Iranian diplomats are in Vienna trying to reach agreement over Iran's nuclear program by a deadline on Tuesday. Tehran is already an exciting place to be in. This Huge metropolis becomes even more exciting when its hidden treasures and attractions are discovered and delved into. For centuries, the handicrafts of Isfahan illustrated some of the finest Persian art. Isfahan handicrafts get a lot of attention. The province itself is a major tourist attraction, and so many foreigners and Iranians frequent Isfahan. And they help spread and introduce Isfahan’s art to others. Maybe that is why Isfahan’s handicrafts are somewhat more popular throughout the world. That, in addition to the ages of experience the Isfahani artists have in mastering Persian craftsmanship. In this edition of Iran Today, we discuss the main achievements of Iran’s universal healthcare scheme. A few months ago, Iran’s government implemented an inclusive health coverage program in order to extend medical insurance to all Iranians. More than 5 million people have registered in the program so far, and around 2.5 million people are receiving its services. According to the Iran Health Insurance Organization, it is estimated that 10 to 15 million people don’t have any kind of insurance program. These people are mostly the underprivileged, who cannot afford insurance premiums. To make up for that, the most vulnerable will be the first to benefit from the administration’s new initiative. February 5, 2015 (Persian calendar 1393/11/16) Despite having gained a notorious reputation from parts of the Israeli and American media, Iran is quite the contrary as it is a peaceful nation that is attracted many local medical tourists. There indeed has been a boon in medical tourism in Iran, which has managed to attract clients despite the political strife and has managed to differentiate between the two words Muslim and terrorists that the media and people use interchangeably. Iran has proved to be an example to other nations in proving that what global media portrays and what the state of political affairs is do not affect medical tourism. Iran also owes this influx because of its convenient geographical location, the prevailing conditions in the adjoining countries, its affordabl...
Iran Military Drills: Iran Ready For Decisive War With US & Israel It is the largest air, ground and sea military drill ever conducted by the army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The war games dubbed Mohammad Rasulollah and held in 2.2 million square kilometers of Iran’s southeast at the coast of the sea of Oman continued for the 4th day. The military exercise was followed by a number of experiences for the Iranian army. For the first time, Iran’s Tareq heavy submarines engaged in mine laying operations aimed at securing Iran’s coastline against the penetration of hypothetical enemy. Mine sweeping operations formerly conducted by navy vessels were carried out by the navy’s AH helicopters for the first time. The drill also dealt with the intrusion of two foreign navy vessels into the mane...

Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan praised Iran’s new tank at the Sunday event, the Iranian media reported. “The tank can compete with the most advanced tanks in the world in the three main areas of power, precision and mobility, as well as maintenance and durability in the battleground,” the minister said, as cited by Fars news agency. One of the US team members, Melvin Douglas, made a political gesture by holding up a portrait of Ayatollah Khameini, Iran's spiritual leader. Iran – formerly Persia - is the biggest country of the Middle East. Due to the fact that sky-high snowy mountains, extended deserts, verdant oases, turquoise cupola mosques and cultural and architectural relic sites of World Heritage are waiting for all visitors it can be a very desirable destination even for tourists who continuously look for the new and varied. In Tehran the luxurious palaces of Persian shahs, the Museum of Archaeology and the Museum of Carpets and Rugs are the sights that “must” be seen. Yazd and Kerman is well-known for their mosques and bazaars, Naqsh-e Rustam is for its rock-hewn tombs, Rayen and Persepolis are for the remains of their palaces and castles from the time of the Persian Empire. The two most beautiful cities of Iran are the splendidly situated Shiraz and ...

My name's Michael and I'm the Marketing Manager for Wild Frontiers. I'm here at the magnificent site of Persepolis in Iran. I've been in Iran for two weeks now and so far I've been enchanted by this fascinating country. CITIES The capital Tehran is most people's starting point, and in this busy city you can see ostentatious ornaments from the royal household in the crown jewels museum, and wander around the Shah's old residence, Golestan Palace. Just north of Tehran you can visit the Elburz Mountains for skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. But the real highlights lie elsewhere. In the off-the-beaten-track city of Yazd you'll find a cityscape dotted with the ingenious wind tunnels -- which could be described as the world's first air-conditioning system - the ancient Zoroastria...

Travel video about destination Iran. Iran, formerly known as Persia, is a land of magical splendour, ancient architecture and Oriental hospitality. Tehran has been the capital of the Persian Empire since 1795. Founded by Mohammed Aga Khan it is a vibrant place that ranks among the most densely populated cities on Earth. Its biggest transformation in its recent history was due to religious leader, Ayatollah Khomeyni, who in 1979 established the Iranian Republic, a theocracy within the teachings of the Koran. The Saad-Abad Palace complex was the first summer residence of the Qadjarian kings. Following several extensions, from the 1920’s eighteen palaces were used by Reza Shah Pahlevi and his family. The city of Kashan prospered under the Safavid, Shah Abbas The First, who designed the Bagh...

Travel video about destination Persia. Invasions, battles and revolutions always dictated the numerous great empires which developed on Persian soil and the kingdom of Meder was the country’s first great empire, with Hamedan its capital and one of its oldest, continuously inhabited cities. Although the Achaemenid made Hamedan one of its summer residences, they also built their headquarters there, a sprawling city system in the form of a large camp. Dareios The Great began construction of Persepolis shortly after he had attained power as Third Emperor of Persia. Although he already had two capital cities, Pasargadae and Susa, he wanted to present to the world a third impressive city. During several decades of construction the glorious total work of Persian-Achaemenid art was achieved. Tod...

License Video: dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true I thought I knew what a good hospitality is like.. until I came to Iran. "Why go to Iran?" This is a question people often asked when I tell them I was going there. I would have ask the same if it wasn't the words of mouth I heard over the years about how awesome Iran is, how incredibly friendly the people are, and how off the beaten path the whole country is. The first day I arrived in Tehran, I was walking around the Bazaar and we were approached by several locals asking what we think about Iran, gave us free tea and cakes, and allowed us to roam their warehouses without asking for anything in return. This similar scenario happened a lot more throughout my 2 weeks time in Iran and really got me th...
For me Iran is a beautiful, magical country, a monument for the grandor of human civilization. Iran is a place where dazzling architecture is set amid desolate expanses of desert or steppe; where snow-capped mountains plunge dramatically to a seacoast of steamy lushness; where nomads guide their flocks to seasonal pasturelands; where tombs, temples, castles, and mosques bespeak the richness of the Persian past. High and dry for the most part, the land is sectioned by great mountain ranges, dotted with venerable villages of mud and stone as well as modern cities, and has a cultural fabric woven of many different threads, Persian,Turkish, Kurdish, Baluchi, ...

Directed by Nahid Ghobadi and Bijan Zamanpira, Iraq, 2012 A government official, carrying a message from Iran’s president, travels across Iranian Kurdistan with his driver and a young guide on a mission to stop 111 young Kurdish women from committing suicide in protest against conditions that have left them spinsters. Racing against the clock, they travel into territory simmering with resentment at official neglect and the hardship it has sown among a proud people. Against a dramatically colorful physical and human landscape, wistful longing mingles with dreamlike desire and absurdist humor as the three travelers meander helplessly in a land riddled with contradictions. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. http://www.tytnetwork.com/join "U.S. President Donald Trump is "very likely" to state that Iran is adhering to its nuclear agreement although he continues to have reservations about it, a senior U.S. official said on Thursday. Under U.S. law, the State Department must notify Congress every 90 days of Iran's compliance with the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Trump has a congressionally mandated deadline of Monday to decide. (5 Jul 2017) The Qatari Foreign Minister on Wednesday defended his country's "healthy and constructive" relationship with Iran, with which it shares a massive undersea gas field. Four Arab nations have demanded energy-rich Qatar curb its ties with Iran, amid an ongoing diplomatic rift. Sheik Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani spoke in London just hours after foreign ministers from four Arab nations seeking to isolate Qatar said they had received Doha's response to their demands for ending the diplomatic crisis roiling the Persian Gulf. Al-Thani was asked by a journalist to comment on whether Qatar's alleged decision to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in ransom money to free Qatari royals kidnapped in Iraq during a hunting trip enraged Saudi Arabia and led to its dramatic ...

Two young fishermen are facing animal cruelty charges in Iran after filming themselves “riding” an orca whale in the Persian Gulf. The video showed two young fishermen from the port city of Bushehr riding on a whale during the last day of the current fishing season in the country. Last month the Iranian Department of Environment confirmed reports that orcas were appearing on the coast of Bushehr Province, but stressed that these whales pose no threat to humans. Davoud Mirshekar, director of the Marine Ecosystems Office at the Department of Environment (DoE), said the presence of orcas is not unusual in the Persian Gulf, but in Iran, they are known by their less appealing name of "killer whales." Many animal rights activists are concerned that the misleading name could lead to violence or ...
