Adam Opel AG (Opel, pronounced [ˈoːpl̩]) is a German automobile manufacturer headquartered in Rüsselsheim, Hesse, Germany, and a subsidiary of General Motors Company. The company designs, engineers, manufactures and distributes Opel-branded passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and vehicle parts for distribution in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America. Opel designed and manufactured vehicles are also sold under the Buick brand in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China, the Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand and the Vauxhall brand in Great Britain.

Opel traces its roots to a sewing machine manufacturer founded by Adam Opel in 1862. The company began manufacturing bicycles in 1886 and produced its first automobile in 1899.

Opel became a share-limited company (German: Aktiengesellschaft) in 1929; United States-based General Motors took a majority stake in Opel that same year. General Motors assumed full control in 1931 and today Adam Opel AG is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Company. Although Adam Opel AG continues to be a share-limited company, shares of the company are not publicly listed. Adam Opel AG is the parent company of General Motors UK Limited, better known as Vauxhall, and various other General Motors subsidiaries.

Chevrolet Bolt

The Chevrolet Bolt, also known as the Chevrolet Bolt EV, is an all-electric crossover developed by Chevrolet and is scheduled for availability in late 2016 as a model year 2017. The Bolt was previewed in production form at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, with further details released subsequently during the 2016 North American International Auto Show. The European version, marketed as the Opel Ampera-e, will go into production in 2017.

GM anticipates the Bolt will deliver an all-electric range more than 200 mi (320 km), with a cost beginning at $30,000 — after a federal electric vehicle tax credit of $7,500. As of early 2016, this is more than double the range of other electric cars available in the United States — except for the Tesla Model S (with a base price roughly twice the Bolt's "net" $30,000 cost) and the BYD e6, the latter sold as a fleet vehicle.

Beginning in late 2016, the Bolt will be manufactured at GM's Orion Assembly plant, which is receiving a US$160 million upgrade to the Bolt's production.

Opel Insignia

The Opel Insignia (from Latin insigne = the emblem/coat of arms) is a large family car engineered and produced by the German automaker Opel. Production of the Insignia began in 2008 as a replacement for the Vectra and Signum. The vehicle is sold under the Vauxhall marque in the United Kingdom, and known as the Buick Regal in China and North America. It was launched in Australia and New Zealand under the Holden marque in 2015.

In Chile, the vehicle was originally due to be marketed as the Chevrolet Vectra, but is now sold as the Opel Insignia. The Insignia made its debut in Australia in 2012, badged as an Opel. but was dropped a year later after the brand was withdrawn from the market. The Insignia is produced in Opel's plant in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Also at Ellesmere Port, England.

2003 Insignia Concept

The Opel Insignia Concept is a full-size luxury car (F-segment in Europe) presented by the German automaker Opel at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. The car has a V8 engine from the Corvette with 344 PS.

Edition (book)

The bibliographical definition of an edition includes all copies of a book printed “from substantially the same setting of type,” including all minor typographical variants.

The numbering of book editions is a special case of the wider field of revision control. The traditional conventions for numbering book editions evolved spontaneously for several centuries before any greater applied science of revision control became important to humanity, which did not occur until the era of widespread computing had arrived (when software and electronic publishing came into existence). The old and new aspects of book edition numbering (from before and since the advent of computing) are discussed below.

First edition

According to the definition of edition above, a book printed today, by the same publisher, and from the same type as when it was first published, is still the first edition of that book to a bibliographer. However, book collectors generally use the term first edition to mean specifically the first print run of the first edition (aka "first edition, first impression"). Since World War II, books often include a number line (printer's key) that indicates the print run.
