June Pointer

June Antoinette Pointer (November 30, 1953 – April 11, 2006) was an American pop/R&B singer and a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning vocal group The Pointer Sisters.

Biography

Early life and career

Born the youngest of six children to minister parents Reverend Elton and Sarah Pointer, June shared a love of singing with her sisters. In 1969, she and sister Bonnie founded The Pointers - A Pair. The duo sang at numerous clubs, then became a trio later that year when sister Anita quit her job as a secretary to join them. The group officially changed its name to The Pointer Sisters. The trio signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and released a few singles, none of which made a substantial impact on the music charts. In 1972, sister Ruth joined the group, making it a quartet. The sisters then signed with Blue Thumb Records, and their career began to take off.

The Pointer Sisters and solo career

Releasing their self-titled debut album in 1973, the Pointer Sisters found immediate fame with hits such as "Yes We Can Can" and "Wang Dang Doodle." Subsequent albums boasted top-charting songs such as "Fairytale," "How Long (Betcha Got a Chick on the Side)" and "You Gotta Believe." June briefly left the group in 1976 due to personal struggles; Bonnie exited from the group to forge a solo career in 1977.

Live with Me

"Live with Me" is a song by The Rolling Stones from their album Let It Bleed, released in November 1969. It was the first song recorded with the band's new guitarist Mick Taylor, who joined the band in June 1969, although the first record the band released with Taylor was the single version of Honky Tonk Women). Taylor later described the recording of "Live with Me" as "kind of the start of that particular era for the Stones, where Keith and I traded licks."

The song also marks the first time the Stones recorded with tenor saxophonist Bobby Keys (who played on many Stones records thereafter), and the only time Leon Russell would play with the Stones. Russell and Nicky Hopkins contributed piano to the piece.

Written by Mick Jagger and Richards, "Live with Me" was recorded on 24 May 1969. As Taylor joined the band weeks later, his guitar part was dubbed over the basic track.

The song's lyrics were cited as the reason why the London Bach Choir asked not to be credited for their contribution to "You Can't Always Get What You Want". The poet X. J. Kennedy suggested that the lyrics are part of a tradition of responses, beginning with John Donne and Sir Walter Raleigh and continuing through C. Day-Lewis, to Christopher Marlowe's "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love". Marlowe's poem begins "Come live with me and be my love".

Live with Me (Massive Attack song)

"Live with Me" is a song by Massive Attack which was included in their 2006 compilation album, Collected, and was also released as a single. The song is notable for the critical acclaim it garnered due to its haunting lyrics, soulful vocals and emotional string section.

Vocals

Vocals were supplied by the acclaimed soul singer Terry Callier, who was 60 at the time the song was recorded. Callier was an American jazz, soul and folk guitarist singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois, who has won a UN Peace Award for his humanitarian work promoting peace through his songs.
