Maribou State

Maribou State are an English electronic music duo consisting of Chris Davids and Liam Ivory. They have released a handful of EPs and an album Portraits. Besides their own material, the two producers have also done remixes for the likes of Alpines and Lana Del Rey. The duo perform internationally and are signed to Ninja Tune.

Biography

Originally from Hertfordshire, Davids and Ivory met at school where they first developed an interest in music. After writing music and being in local bands for a number of years, they were offered the opportunity to do a remix for the band Hadouken! at the age of 16. They made their debut as Maribou State in 2011 with the five-track EP "Habitat" on Fat! Cat Records. In 2013 they released their "Truths" EP which featured vocals by Jimi Nxir, Holly Walker and Nubiya Brandon.

While the duo were preparing their first full-length, their former record-company Fat! Cat released the compilation Beginnings, which contained eight tracks and seven remixes by others. In June 2015 they released the album Portraits, preceded by the single "The Clown" featuring Pedestrian.

Holly Walker

Holly Ruth Walker (born 15 November 1982) was a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives from 2011–2014. She was a list MP for the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Early life

Walker was born in Lower Hutt in 1982. She was raised by a mother on the Domestic Purposes Benefit and attended Waterloo School, Hutt Intermediate School and Hutt Valley High School, where she was deputy head girl.

University and early political work

From 2001 she studied at the University of Otago, graduating with a BA (Hons) in English and Politics, as well as winning a Blue for her achievements with the Otago University Debating Society. In 2005 she was the editor of student magazine Critic Te Arohi, the year's winner of the Aotearoa Student Press Association's award for Best Student Publication. In September 2005 Critic's annual "Offensive Issue" included a fictional diary of a man who used drugs to stupefy and rape women. The Office of Film and Literature Classification banned the issue in early 2006, after Walker's tenure as editor had ended. At the time of the ban she said the article was "defendable in that it highlights a very important issue", but when Critic interviewed her in 2012 she called it "a mistake to publish that particular article the way that we did".

Lane 8

Daniel Goldstein, better known by his stage name Lane 8, is an American born musician, electronic music producer, and DJ. Currently residing in Leipzig, Germany, the 26-year-old has signed to English deep house label Anjunadeep. Pete Tong named Lane 8 a ‘Future Star’ and Dancing Astronaut included him in their '25 Artists to Watch in 2015.' His debut artist album 'Rise', was released on July 17, 2015.

History

The Lane 8 moniker originated back when Goldstein made garage rock with his sister when they were kids. He later started experimenting with hip-hop beats after being influenced by Pete Rock and DJ Premier. At some point in 2012, "Lane 8 really found his groove with his sound fitting between pulsing electronica and a woozier kind of glitch-pop" putting him on the radar of Anjunadeep A&R executive Jody Wisternoff. In 2013, he signed to Anjunadeep, where he released his debut album in the summer of 2015. He has previously described his sound as "dreamy back rub house."

Career

Daniel has carved out a space for himself in the crowded dance music scene with his ability to craft music that appeals to both upbeat clubbing and relaxed at-home listening – a skill that has landed him a wide range of DJ support. Everyone from The Magician to ODESZA, and Above & Beyond to Annie Mac have heavily supported his music, landing the Anjunadeep-signee a spot on inthemix's “Top 25 Trail-Blazing Producers” list.
