Skepta

Joseph Junior Adenuga (born 19 September 1982), better known by his stage name Skepta, is an English rapper, grime artist, songwriter and record producer of Nigerian descent. He is also the brother of fellow musician JME. Similarly to his brother he is most commonly known for releasing grime music. He released his debut studio album Greatest Hits in late 2007 and his second, Microphone Champion in 2009, both independently, while his third studio album Doin' It Again was released in 2011 by 3 Beat Records. His fourth studio album, Konnichiwa, is expected to be released in 2016.

Career

Early career

Skepta was originally a DJ from Broughton-based grime crew Meridian Crew, early in his career Skepta released a number of instrumentals the most notable of which were "DTI (Pirate Station Anthem)" and "Private Caller", the latter of which was released as a single and vocaled by various other members of Meridian Crew. Skepta began emceeing shortly before Meridian Crew disbanded in 2005, after which Skepta, alongside his brother JME, joined Roll Deep for a short period of time before becoming founding members of Boy Better Know in 2006. In 2006 he clashed Devilman for the DVD Lord of the Mics 2 in what is remembered as one of the biggest grime clashes. This clash created a long running dispute between the two MCs culminating in war dubs being exchanged in 2015.

Boy Better Know

Boy Better Know is an English grime group and record label. The group was founded in North London by Jme alongside his brother Skepta in 2005 as an independent record label and a means to publish their music.

History

In the early nineties, Meridian Crew, consisting of MCs President T, Skepta, JME, Big H, Bossman Birdie and Paper Pabs, regularly appeared on pirate radio stations including Heat FM and later on Déjà Vu FM. In 2005 Meridian Crew dissolved after affiliates of the crew were convicted on attempted murder charges. After this event Jme founded BBK alongside his brother Skepta while other Meridian members reformed as Bloodline Family.

In its early period "Boy Better Know" was well known for its line of eponymous T-shirts. The crew also had a regular show on Rinse FM with DJ Maximum. Jme's debut album Famous? was released on the label in 2008. "Too Many Man", the first single from the album, was released on 25 May 2009. The song is also featured on the Wiley and Skepta albums, Race Against Time and Microphone Champion, respectively. The song was written because of Skepta's annoyance over 'the lack of women in clubs'. It entered the UK Singles Chart on 6 June 2009 at #97, reaching #79 the next week. The second single from the album V.I.P, titled "Goin' In", was released for download on iTunes on 13 December 2009.

Not Me

"Not Me" is Amy Pearson's second single from her debut album Who I Am. It charted at number 37 in the ARIA Singles Chart.

The song was written by Pearson and is said to be about a pushy partner who wanted to know everything there is to know about her.

"Not Me" debuted in the ARIA top 50 singles chart at 37 on the 28th of November 2007 then falling to position 47 for two weeks before exiting. Then two weeks later on 2 December 2007 re-entering at 47.

Lethal Bizzle

Maxwell Ansah (born 14 September 1984), known by his stage name Lethal Bizzle, is an English rapper and actor, best known for his singles "Pow! (Forward)" and "Fester Skank". He was born to Ghanaian parents.

Career

In December 2004, he released the single "Pow (Forward)", also known as "Forward Riddim" which was banned from airplay by some mainstream radio stations. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number 11 in its first week on the chart in 2005, and it reached number one on the UK Dance Chart. He won a MOBO for "Pow (Forward)" as 'Best Single', and was nominated at the same awards as 'Best Newcomer'.

Earlier he was a part of the group More Fire Crew. In 2002, their track "Oi!" reached the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart. In early July 2005, Lethal Bizzle appeared on stage at the final Live 8 concert in Edinburgh. In 2011, he had a cameo in the Adam Deacon film Anuvahood, knocking him out in the opening scene. He had a feud with N-Dubz over intellectual property rights citing emails of hooks he had sent Tulisa. N Dubz members Tulisa and Dappy responded with foul-mouthed attacks. Bizzle later started a successful T-shirt business with his cousin and footballer Emmanuel Frimpong, featuring his catchphrase "Dench". Since then he has been very successful branching out to his fans on Snapchat, that has led him to create the hit song 'Rari Workout'. In 2012, he appeared in the BBC Three comedy drama, Bad Education in which he competed in a rap battle with the headmaster.

Hit Squad

The Hit Squad was a 1990s hip hop collective of East coast hip hop artists formed by Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith better known as EPMD. The collective separated when EPMD broke up for the first time in 1993, later reforming as Def Squad. The collective later reintroduced itself in 2006 as "Hit squad" with a sub division of new up and coming artists titled "Team Takeover" featuring artists such as Nymrod, Comatose, Nam Nitty, and the recent youngest member Michael Nixx.

Career

After the success of their debut album Strictly Business, EPMD sought to mentor new artists. The first artist to make a guest appearance on an EPMD album was K-Solo. Solo was featured on their second album Unfinished Business on the song "Knick Knack Patty Wack". The first mention of "Hit Squad" appeared on EPMD's third album Business as Usual on the track "Hit Squad Heist". The lyrics mention Redman, K-Solo and Tom J of Knucklehedz. Redman is also featured on two tracks of that album.

In 1993, EPMD released the single "Headbanger" from their fourth album Business Never Personal. The single featured K-Solo and Redman and the music video features appearances by most of the Hit Squad. The single reached #11 on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks chart. The single's success made "Head Banger" the Squad's "signature song". The album also features Das EFX on the track "Cummin' At Cha".
