Welcome To My Blog

Thanks for checking the blog out... Hope it offers something a bit different every now & again. Though I come from a pseudo - Mod background (Soul & Ska in particular), I have a diverse taste in music & hope my varied posts will reflect this.

Cheers Skamanc .... I'm not after your undying gratitude, but please leave your thoughts, comments & opinions on the posts & content. I regularly up- & download material, plus buy and trade items. As such, if I have inadvertently "trodden on anyone's toes" in posting anything then please let me know & accept my apologies. Also please support the artists involved & remember that the blog is merely a pointer toward these various downloads, which are stored elsewhere. Legally, any downloads should not be retained for more than a week. So now I've told you the legal bit !

Want the bad news or the BAD news ?

It seems that my back up hard drive has malfunctioned sometime today & I appear to have lost the best part of 1TB (!!)  of music. This formed the bulk of my collection, plus contributions for the blog (from Rodd & Pauli for example), future posts as well as loads of family photos, college stuff & more.

To say that I am fuming & devastated is something of an understatement ...

To make maters worse, I am currently severely restricted in my ability to up / download due to Virgin having been cut off (The Mrs Phone Bill to blame) & therefore having to resort to Plan B (the T mobile dongle) yet again, with its accompanying shite data allowance.

There'll be no posts for a few days now I reckon as I take stock & see what I can sort out.

I'm desperately trying to sort out the HDD but I don't hold out much hope.

UPDATE : Turns out there are 3 bugs or viruses on various sectors of the drive (??) though the data was recoverable. YES !!! Bought a new drive so I'll be able to transfer all the file sover & breath again !!!

Les Fleur De Lys : Recollections

Further to mine & Martin's recent C-Box banter re Les Fleur De Lys, here's the album we were referring to... classic 60s Freakbeat from the obscure Southampton band...

For Gord Waring of Liverpool.

THE PRIME MOVERS : Town & Country Club, 23/7/89 (Soundboard).

Just in from regular blog contributor TC & what a cracker !! Soundboard tape from their support slot for Spacemen 3 at the Town & Country, Kentish Town, July 1989. TC has finetuned the sound levels & even put the covers together - what a star ! Download this, blast it out & kindly leave TC a note or two in the comments section...Thanks !!

DAVID BOWIE : The Lost Beeb Tapes (1967 - 72)

To say I was delighted to received this on data dvd from Pauli is a massive understatement. I recorded this from an FM show one Christmas about 20 years ago (onto a chrome C90 - remember them ??) and played it until the tape simply wore out. I never managed to find a repeat or a decent copy until now.

What a class bootleg & one I am honoured to be able to share with all you bloggers. This is essential stuff - god bless the BBC for saving these performances. Needless to say this is already on CD & will be a permanent fixture in the car...

THE CLASH : Electric Circus, Manchester, 8/5/77

Here's a well known boot ("Take It Or Leave It"), from the legendary but short lived Manchester Punk / New Wave Venue, the Electric Circus. A disused cinema in Collyhurst, a not too nice part of town (& it still ain't !!) that saw the likes of The Pistols, Jam, Clash, Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Magazine, Drones, Fall, Slaughter & the Dogs, John Cooper Clarke & many more play. Loads of footage shot there is available on "The Way They Were" Granada TV compilation. Here's a '77 Clash set, with The Pistols (1976) to follow...
For Martin...

PINK FLOYD : Barrett's Revenge

I've been re-listening to the Floyd in a big way recently, especially the early stuff with Syd Barrett. As such, I've got a fair amount of stuff to post over the coming weeks, including BBC stuff & loads of out-takes as well as live gigs.  Those of you already acquainted with the Barrett era Floyd will be well into some of the stuff to come... if you're not, then give it a go... I've alos got loads of Barrett solo, including, again, BBC & live stuff. Often shambolic, though his genius frequently shines through. Top songwriter and a great guitarist also...

THE HIGH NUMBERS (The Who) Live 1964

Sheer class & an absolutely essential download / addition to the collection. This has been drafted for a long time & I've just been saving it as a treat for all you bloggers. It's been such a cracking weekend, with the competition win & well over 1000 hits a day so her it is... The earliest surviving material by The 'oo (under their temporary monicker The High Numbers). A very interesting mix of live & early studio demo tracks showing their Soul & Blues influences (Tamla Motown stuff, Bo Diddley, Howling Wolf, Chuck Berry, Booker T & The MGs, Rufus Thomas). Reasonable sound quality bearing in mind its rarity so stop reading this crap & click on the flag NOW!
Dedicated to The Ox & Moon the Loon.

THE MILKSHAKES : Live In Germany 1983

Another cracker this afternoon - vinyl rip of a German release LP.

Who Says Prize Draws Are A Waste Of Time ??

You know the type of thing - Free Prize Draw in a High Street shop - not transerable, no cash alternative & so on. I filled a form out last Autumn then forgot all about it until today when a letter arrived... a nice voucher to use in a Music Store...

Now I've got a lovely sunburst & tortoise shell Fender Squier Jaguar and a little Vox amp, along with a few accessories. I am still in shock - I nver actually thought anyone won these competitions...
