Cracked Actor - David Bowie [1974] [DVD Video]

Hooray! A Full DVD!!
Get it now!.

And if I may be so bold as to just hand you over to someone who is obviously much better equipped to deal with such things as reviews...
Or Wikipedia as it's also known

Cracked Actor is a 53-minute-long BBC television documentary film about the pop star David Bowie. It was filmed in 1974. At the time he was a cocaine addict and the documentary has become notorious for showing Bowie's fragile mental state during this period. It was made by Alan Yentob for the BBC's Omnibus documentary strand, and was first shown, on BBC2 in the UK, on January 26, 1975.
The documentary depicts Bowie on tour in Los Angeles, using a mixture of documentary sequences filmed in limousines and hotels, and concert footage. Most of the concert footage was taken from a show at the Los Angeles Universal Amphitheatre on 2 September 1974. There were also excerpts from D.A. Pennebaker's concert film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, which had been shot at London's Hammersmith Odeon on 3 July 1973, as well as a few other performances from the tour.[1] 'Cracked Actor' is notable for being one of the only sources for footage of Bowie's ambitious Diamond Dogs tour.
The title of the documentary was originally to be The Collector, after a comment that Bowie had made to interviewer Russell Harty the previous year, whereby he described himself as "a collector of accents". Yentob and his team were given the task of documenting Bowie's famous Diamond Dogs tour, which was already underway when they started filming. Locations for the documentary mainly centred around Hollywood and Los Angeles, but there was also concert footage taken from Philadelphia. A number of performances from the tour were shown, including songs such as "Space Oddity", "Cracked Actor", "Sweet Things/Candidate", "Moonage Daydream", "The Width of a Circle", "Aladdin Sane", "Time", "Diamond Dogs" and "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)".

At present, the documentary remains unreleased officially.

OK now all I should point out is that this is a collectors/Fans DVD and is nicely made with menus and a little extra too.

The Stranglers - Rattus Norvegicus AND No More Heroes [1977]

Life is a large turd, halfway down the pipe but sort of stuck in the U-Bend.
You are forever trying to prod it with a stick to get some clarity but you will never quite scrape the shit off until you really put some effort into it.

The new drug sucks.
I'm not going to dwell on it but take it from me, this is no way to get better!

The Stranglers! So I went off and I stood by my word. I listened to them. I listened and listened and then I watched a concert. Then another. Then another and another. I even watched them Live at the Royal Albert Hall, without the great lead singer of old though, playing with a ladies Orchestra wearing combats!
I found some great and rare stuff on the way and I think I can now truly say I KNOW The stranglers. I know how they have disbanded and evolved and changed over the years.
I know that after the second (third in some peoples' opinions...Hmm I'm undecided, it has some great tracks and some mush) they just ...went shit.
They did.

I can hardly listen to some of the shite that they have churned out over the years. I especially dislike their recent stuff.
If I could draw a line across their discography history and say when the best stuff was and when the worst was, I am afraid it wouldn't be very original and it does seem to be the most popular opinion: I would draw the line from now (shite) to their very first album (great!). It goes like a direct line from great to shit with no real turns or twists on the way.

I don't know how it can be.
They are a strange breed.
Not many bands do what they have done.
Most bands, with the talent they had/have would have made better and more solid tunes after such a start. I only say this as their first album is such a piece of creative expression, to me it's a work of art.
I'm being serious. I do think it's really that good. So it just seems ridiculous when I hear their fourth or their sixth album for instance...poor.
They got worse it seems.
Any ideas...?
I bring you then, in order of goodness, the two best Stranglers albums ever to exist and, sadly, ever likely to exist. there will be no more.
They will keep releasing stuff but, you will know what I mean after you listen..
Their first, a work of obvious Prog-Rock to my ears!
Who labelled this band 'punk'?
That is so off the mark as to be almost comical!!!
I mean, they don't even look the part of the punk bands that were around in the day they were walking about in their leather and suffering from weird gothic photo shoots that the likes of John Lydon would never have been seen in!

Gothic Photo Shoot not like anything The stranglers ever did...

The music is way off the scale of both ability and talent, as well as not being 'punk music' so I fail to see why or how they got such a genre shoved onto them when it just doesn't seem to fit well at all...
I always think of them as worthy of Prog rock as the likes of Caravan and Camel.. the real magicians at their craft.
When you listen to such tracks as 'Down in The Sewer' and when your ears hear, for the very first time, the grumbling bass-line introducing 'Goodbye Toulouse', you know you are witnessing something a bit special.
Something that amazes you.
Feel it.
It works.

The whole of the first album hits me that way. There are moments where it dips of course. I'm not saying it is a perfect record but it's about as close as it gets if you really let their music wash over you.
I am still only truly in love with this album. I am also posting the second but if I never got to hear it again and could only choose the first I would be very happy. :)
Here is their second which I hope you'll find to be a blaast. It isn't quite as much of a prog-rock sound, like Rattus Norvegicus was but still that magic is in there and you can hear it ;)
(Like that joint I just smoked...)

By the way this is 320K MP3 and it's the double CD Deluxe Version remastered (2009).

Deep Purple - In Rock [1970] {{Stoner Collection #18}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 018-===

Hello strangers. Some time has passed.
Crohn's disease got so bad that I had to abandon my 'steroid Reduction' plan and put the dose back up until the inflammation symptoms lessened.
the reason I HAD TO do this was because I started losing weight rather rapidly. from 10stone 5 lbs, to 8stone 11lbs in a couple of weeks or so. That's more than I can afford to lose and, once you get very ill with this, it can be so much harder to deal with if you get too thin.
Well the steroids did slow this down and enable me to feel slightly better but I haven't been able to get back to the level of health I was at before I changed the steroids dose! so it seems I have made my situation worse by trying to reduce the steroids!
Heh. What luck :)

The GREAT news is!!!!!!

I went to the hospital today and I have been given my first dose of a new (relatively) drug that has a great success rate for people with Crohn's Disease, especially those who no longer respond to other treatments...that's me!
I was worried about taking it at first...amongst the warnings they give you at the hospital is the increased risk of Lymphoma as a side effect, although it is, thankfully, rare.
When I lost weight so quick and also became so ill and in constant severe pain the the decision was made for m e. illness has a way of changing your mind. after many hours of this crap you will agree to anything if it gives you a chance of not being in pain!
So I had the first dose today and I really am hopeful about this.
I also hope it doesn't turn out to be false hope. Best thing would be not to get too excited or invest any hopes in it at all but I can't help myself this time. I am so ill just now that I NEED this to work.
If it doesn't work, doesn't slow the process of deterioration I have dropped into, I will require surgery. Pretty hefty op too.
I'm not going there.
I'm too hopeful.
This drug will work :)

I am only giving you some music here as I thought it might piss you off to see an update and not even an album to boot...!

Sorry but you wanted information on the album?
You'll have to use google this time I'm afraid. You ought to be ashamed of yourself if you really need to do that.
If that is the case then GO GO! Educate yourself on this fine band...

Files are in HIGH QUALITY 320K MP3.

I am working on getting a great set of FLAC files on this to you. they are uploading now, complete with the guitar tabs book too so you can get yourself playing along.

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 016-===

Hello. I managed something, at least.
Next one in the list and I don't have to tell you my opinion on this fine album hehe.

I'll just keep the following in my posts for now so I don't have to explain over and over..
I can only really say one word: Steroids.
Well, maybe I should make that two or three:
Steroid Reduction Sucks.

Not much to say at all right now. I'm too friggin ill to have the energy. It feels as if all my energy is used up dealing with the opain that never stops and increases so much more when I try to eat.
If you don't eat you get thinner so ... not a good idea.
I'm turning this into some kind of medical journal now hehe.
Life is as it is for now.
Pretty fucked!

Here is a nice wee link for some reviews on this album. No fanboys there at all..

I need to get healthier... the steroids dose being so low now, has caused the symptoms of Crohn's Disease to be higher than ever and it's pretty much constant pain and weakness here. I'm just waiting for it to change but it is looking less likely each damn day.
Hmm.
OK and hey! Blast this album loud if you know what's good for you..

I am now at 5.5mg of Steroids per day for my Crohn's disease, as opposed to the dose I started on, 15mg. This is the most difficult things I have tried to do: come off medically prescribed Hydrocortisone.

I hope to come out of the other side of this at some point, with my faculties intact. they appear to have left me during the process and it is just bloody horrible 23 hours out of 24.

David Bowie - Strange Fascination 1974-09-05 Bootleg

Hello out there.
It's awfy quiet. Contrasting the noise inside my head, caused by the need to reduce the dose of steroids I have been taking for about 13 years. These things are fucking terrible. You don't notice it when you go on them of course, in fact they seem like some kind of miracle drug! Pretty soon after you start taking them, in my case at least, but generally, for most illnesses that respond to them, this is what happens...you go from feeling very weak, being sick and unable to eat to feeling full of energy(!) full of the joys of life(!!) and the great thing for a Crohns diseaser is that you cultivate this amazingly ravenous appetite. It is like having the munchies every waking moment for a few years!!!
If you know anything about life by now my friend you will realise already that things come at a price.
Is there such a thing as a 'miracle' drug?
I can tell you the answer is no.
You see, the magical steroid health is only a temporary help. It is a temporary 'solution' to your ill health.
Without going into it too much, let me simplify it:
Steroids reduce inflammation. Inflammation is a process that is involved in many diseases from a simple cold to HIV. These particular steroids (hydrocortisone) can reduce inflammation in so many areas of the body and in so many illnesses, they are used a lot and can seem like a cure-all at times.
Alas, they are not a light substance to ingest so much. your body produces it's own amount of this hormone (hydrocortisone) every day. You need it to live. When you get stressed, excited, scared, emotional and even just when you are walking, talking and doing your usual shit (pardon my technical jargon here, you may have to use wikipedia)you NEED this stuff. Generally, a persons body will be producing the amount they require. That's how it goes.
This isn't really the place to go right into the workings of it so let me cut to the chase..
When you are taking steroids for inflammation, you need a dose that is much higher than your body would ever produce. you take this high amount every day until your body is used to the higher level. also your body will pretty much give up and eventually stop producing any of its own, due to the fact that it is getting enough already.
This is where the problem is when you come off the shit.
Steroids also bring side effects. Shitty effects that you don't want but are guaranteed to get if you continue to go along the steroid road of fake pseudo-health and hyperactivity(!!). These are too many to list but include cataracts and diabetes as well as Osteoporosis which I already have due to them.
So I must try to reduce or come off of them altogether. The problem is that my body has almost forgotten how to produce its own and wow ... does it make me feel like shit. Talk about feeling weird. This is worse than tripping on mushrooms sometimes I swear! (I mean a bad trip, obviously)
I'm sure this diatribe will speak for itself (was that an unintentional pun-joke there...? Oh I'm probably the only one that got it so fuck it...forget it) but, just in case you didn't grasp it, it's weirdness all around. Fleeting thoughts that disappear before you grab the thread...flickering sight, things look warped and then suddenly snap back to their usual state. As you go into more days of reduction you sweat. Lots. You sit on the sofa to watch TV and you feel sweat running down your temples...then your neck is soaked and you realise just how much its making you sweat. Shaking! I never had the shakes so much in my life. Nervousness is another thing. Really nervy..
This is going to be a long haul too. I feel a wreck already to tell the truth. Fuck this and the horse it rode in on. Oh yeah, that was me.
I chose to keep taking them over the years but hey, when faced with the gut-fucking-body-wrenching alternative then who wouldn't eh?
It is only now that I am reducing them I realise just how steroid-soaked my existence is/has been.
It is highly time to get back to reality FFS!
I am so eager I almost did myself an injury by reducing them too fast. I just want to get through it to the other side. I'm on 15mg and I am to reduce by 1mg every two weeks ONLY if it feels OK. well, in the first week I reduced it 3mg.
Yeah I'm fucking hurting now. It's the end of week two.
Urgh...! I will wait a week before doing anything now.
If I make it. Heh.
I know though, its no joke.
You really can get sick if you reduce them too fast on account of your inability to make your own supply. so you can faint, fit, go into a coma and erm die if you were faced with a lack of steroid when you needed it.
Best to do it slowly then like they say. Balls.
Am I making your day go in a generally positive direction so far?
Great. :)

Welcome.
You made it through all of that so I mean it, well done.

Today is Bowie.
Ground Control to Major Tom...

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland [1968]{{Stoner Collection #09}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 009-===

Hello again.
I know it's a bit shite and all but I'm still very unwell and not able to write much.
Yeah, it's tedious like I sai9d.
Howeever, you have the whole of the world wide web, the internet(!) to explore so really, if you think this is shit then you have many places to go besides so think yourself lucky ;)

Now this ios one of my all time favourite albums.
It was the record I bought that made me realise just how much of a friggin' GOD Hendrix was. It was the record that made me then go and buy books about him and read about his life, get obsessed with listening to and reading and watching him...this was THE defining record regarding Hendrix, in my life.
Brings back so many memories too.
Anyway, just have a listen.
I wish I could write more cos' there's a story or two behind this album, not just the fact that Hendrix was taking so much acid and smoking so much weed that it took him much longer than planned, he had loads of hangers on around him, pissing the other band members off, nebver sticking to time scales etc...he was being a bit of a wreck but wow...what he created was little more than genius!

OK then I wrote a little more anyway. Great.
I recommend you go look up some info on the album!

Whatever you do, enjoy.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced [1967] {{Stoner Collection #5}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 005-===

An out of character short post today! (Yes that was irony).
Had so much snow here over the last week or so. The country 'grinds to a halt' etc etc. It's beautiful but cold. Very friggin' cold. When you can't get around much or do much to keep the blood flowing, it's freeeeezing cold!.

Next part of the stoner collection is, surprise surprise, another Hendrix classic.
I wish I felt well enough to write about this one but I'm sorry: I don't.
Been up all night in pain and it's lasted all day too. Things are gettin' scary but maybe it'll get better. I will see I suppose.

Please do enjoy this fine album and leave a comment if you can be arsed...

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love [1967] {{Stoner Collection #4}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 004-===

Hello again.
Isn't it fucking COLD now!. At least in Southern england it is. I remember an American friend I used to know, he always laughed or took the piss whenever I said something like 'Southern England' or 'up North' as he said the country seemed so small to him that it didn't seem large enough to nominate anywhere as the south or the North part of it,. Well I disagree! Oh and if you know anything about British folk in general, you would know that they regard such names and designated areas highly. Nobody from the South would like to be mistaken for someone from the North. I'd say that the same goes for Northerners, they don't want to be Southerners either! There is a bit of a divide ... it's quite a topic and one I like to go on about sometimes but, I am guessing that you didn't come here to read about that.
At least if you are from outside the UK, you have learned a little factoid for the day!
As I was saying, it is COLD in the South! It went down to -4C last night and I can confirm it really felt like it.

So on with the show.
Next in the list is a band I really have no interest in and, to be honest I can't f*ckin' stand them.
The guitarist especially is weak and I feel he drags down the rest of the band into his scantily talented void of piss and wind. It took a lot of determination to listen to this abhorrent maudlin drivel to the end. In fact to be honest I didn't listen, I just had to stop it after 3 tracks.
I mean it's just outstandingly bad.
OK OK I just cannot continue with this.
I thought it would be novel to slag off what I consider to be one of the best bands ever but I just cannot do it.
This album is a defining moment in the history of music and has influenced so many others that to not see this, to not understand this and to not have listened to this ... well that would be criminal as well as awful.
Where do you start, trying to explain tracks like 'Spanish Castle Magic' or 'Little Wing'?!!
Little Wing is one of my all time loves let me just say.
Then you have the absolutely brilliant 'Castles Made of Sand' and then 'Bold as Love'?! The only possible way to understand these tracks is by hearing them!
The way these tracks make me feel is really hard to define.
I am stuck for words so if any of this is new to you, I urge you to listen now.

It's unoriginal but, I sometimes wonder, what Jimi Hendrix would have been if he hadn't died when he did?
I mean, how would his music have become, shaped by the years and the way the world has changed so dramatically since his death?
Would he still be setting fire to guitars?
I doubt it.
I think he would have become a wiser and possibly calmer, sage of a man. His talent would never leave him of course.
Maybe a bit of a David Gilmour but with harder balls. Hehe.
Make sure you have a listen ;)

The Doors - The Doors [1967] {{Stoner Collection #3}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 003-===

Next in the list, be it a bit later than I planned to post it, it's here now and a nice bit of music to accompany the arrival of winter here in England.
The frosts are starting to come in during the nights, the stars are amazingly clear with not a cloud in the sky, I love this time of year.
I could watch the sky for hours.
Oh and there is another meteor shower due here on the 14th. If it's a clear sky that night get outside and have a look...you might be lucky.

So here we have the next album and Band in the 'Stoner Collection' which will be a long series of posts and this is a great one!
Been listening to this a lot this week and it made me get my other Doors albums out, been a bit of a Doors week really. I urge you to grab this one and get into the rock that was The Doors. There is no other band like it.
Rock.
Blues.
Poetry...
They were unique and I wish Jim hadn't gone so far downhill into the depths of erm, his mind...the band fell apart.
Anyway have a listen to them in the days when things were going great for them and the music was blinding!

Christmas looms ever nearer..

The Monks - Black Monk Time [1966] {{Stoner Collection #01}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 001-===

Damn! All I had to do was post the album in position number one of the list I was telling you about in my last post. Just look at a list, get the album at the beginning of it, have a good few listens to said album, take the title etc of said album and, post it on the blog.
Well I somehow posted the wrong one!!!
The FIRST one in the list of Stoner Rock albums that everyone should hear (apparently) is...

The Monks - Black Monk Time (1966)
Well I must admit before going any further here, I had never heard this until today AND, I hadn't even heard of the band so ... if that makes me a shite music blogger with no idea about music then so be it.
In fact there's a few on the list that I haven't heard of so got a lot to look forward to.
I love discovering 'new' artists, that's what it's all about right?

This band are interesting.
I am a bit stuck on what tags I should be choosing to put this into a certain genre.
They don't fit too well in any to be honest. I know I can just cop-out and select 'stoner collection' and of course, 'rock' but It's deeper than that: On first listen to this album I was pretty mesmerised. The first track hits you right off the start with the pounding drumbeat. The vocals jump in with faint memories of 'The Doors' and the lyrics are quite cutting, referencing Vietnam and quite angry. A forward moving beat with some great organ behind it, Doors fans will start to feel pretty comfortable but ... don't get too comfortable!
There are a few surprising twists and turns on this record.
The second track, again, kicks off with the beat. Pounding drums and then it eases a bit when the organ creeps in to help it out and back it up...The organ isn't so much 'Doors' on this track as maybe early 'Floyd' - well, that is, if I MUST keep trying to compare this...which is a bad habit I have.
It's a very experimental song and I have to say I like it. :-)
A total gear change for the next track ... all 1 minute 26 seconds of it! I won't try to compare this track, it's just a cool surfy/garage rock tunes and again, it gets my thumbs up!
The same goes for most of the tracks on this. I can't say there is a track I really dislike. Perhaps a couple or three that would irritate me if I wasn't in the right frame of mind but all in all this is just a great piece of work and deserves to live in every collection!
I was pleasantly surprised to hear something very Syd Barret-ish too..see if you can spot what I'm talking about. It isn't difficult!
Later on there are obvious signs of 'surf rock' and more than a hint of The Beach Boys' thrown into the mix.
There are so many different styles and brilliantly arranged riffs in there that this album really is a classic and, as such deserves to appear on probably most lists or collections of music from the days before music went corporate! (When was that exactly?)
I regret not having heard or known of this until 2009 however, better late than never and now it's YOUR turn!

That is all.

Now go forth and listen.

Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1965){{Stoner Collection #07}}

===-Stoner Music Collection Entry Number 007-===

Hello hello hello.
It will soon be that pagan celebration time known as 'Christmas'.
Oh fuck.
Don't you just hate it?
I mean REALLY dislike it?
Let me get something clear here: I suppose 'hate' is too strong a term but I really do get irate when the corporate world/capitalist world makes us; the public; society; the suckers that suck up their media, have a so-called 'holiday season' that is nothing more than a huge, all out, no-holds-barred marketing ploy, done with such attention to detail that they leave nothing to chance for those who wish to perhaps NOT makes themselves poor for the sake of buying their kids or their family or friends some 'gifts' that bring them close to bankruptcy or at least a huge overdraft or emptying of the credit card limit, and for what?
Do people really believe in the Xmas spirit?
Please don't get me wrong.
I am all for anything that enables people to get together. People spending time with each other - Families, friends etc. I am all for any situation or event that enables people to feel free of the usual social restraints and stuff and be true and caring towards each other. So they can give each other a gift and maybe even tell them how much they love them.
Letting people know how much you care about them is one of the greatest things you can do as a human being, to another.
The problem is people...no one fucking bothers too much about that part of it!!!
Christmas is all about BUY! BUY! BUY!
I fucking detest it!!
I hate the way my son is supposed to be, like all his friends, desperate to have the latest this or that and, what really pisses me off, he is supposed to feel bad, even ashamed, if he cannot obtain the gift that is the latest fashionable gift to have.
If you told your kids these days 'We don't have enough money so this year we are going to have a nice cosy Christmas at home with a nice meal and spend some great family time together' they would be so disappointed that they might not even bother getting out of bed that day!
I don't expect the kids of today to appreciate a stocking with an apple and an orange in it (like we used to get eh?! he-he!) but I do wish parents - and the fucking media! - would at least still try to instill the sense of value in them, let them know that they should be grateful. Let them understand that things cost money and that you don't always get what you want in life. Let them see that there are kids in the world that don't even have clean water, never mind a friggin' xbox360!
If you did tell them these things they wouldn't care. They'd just think you were being cheap for not getting them an xbox360 and they'd surmise that all the stuff you just told them was all part of your bullshit excuse to justify not buying it for them.
You cannot win.
My main beef with Xmas is that our kids and, to a great extent, many many adults, are being brainwashed by the barrage of marketing by all the forms of media we put upp with today. Christmas follows Halloween. It will soon be Easter and then valentines day. Or is it the other way around?
I don't know.
Or care.
Rant over!

Music?
You are looking for music?
Oh yeah, well you came to the right place then!

I recently joined a music site. I won't tell the name in this climate of UK Government piracy bills and the paranoia surrounding torrent sites and all that crap...but!
I mentioned it for one reason: They have lists of albums and categories for all genres and styles you could ever dream of.
One such list is of 'stoner' music. In case you aren't educated even that much (fuck man you need to get back to school you thick twat!) I will just enlighten you: This is the kind of music a stoner (someone who smokes cannabis, probably a lot of it) would listen to. Usually this means the music is either of the type that takes yopu on a journey of sounds and great expanses that you can hang your stoned head on, whilst the music virtually controls you...or it can be reggae music, music that glorifies cannabis and sings about it, music that is just bloody brilliant (as the stoner generally can appreciate many forms of music probably due to the fact that ingesting cannabis causes you to have an enhanced musical experience in general - try it it's great!).
Well I hope that's a bit clearer.
Clear as mud probably.

So, I decided to go through this very long list and, starting with the band at position 1, I will post every one here, one by one, letting you hear and then hopefully leave your reviews in the comments.
I am not assuming everyone here is a stoner - far from it.
The reason for this list to be the one /I have chosen is simply that it has so many different genres and a lot of great bands and artists in there that I have posted before and of course a lot I haven't.
In fact, forget the stoner part.
Just look upon each posting as an album and give it a try to see what you think!
That's all you have to do OK.
It's not friggin' complicated.
If you need any help though, don't ask me.
Oh yeah, one more thing. these albums are not in order of who is the greatest or anything like that. The list is just in chronological order (the oldest ones are first).

So!!!
First up!!
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (1965)

Here's a little info on the band, stolen from wikipedia. If you want more click the link.
Iron Butterfly is an American psychedelic rock band, known for music such as 1968 hit "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Their heyday was the late 1960s, but the band has been reincarnated with various members. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is the 31st best-selling album in the world, selling more than 25 million copies.

First impressions after listening to the album?
Hmm. Hippies.
I used to want to be a bit of a hippie and even lived the lifestyle - to a point. However those times are gone and nowadays I don't grow my hair long and I certainly don't listen to Iron Butterfly.
The thing is I would never have listened to them even back then because they are what I would call 'Formulaic Hippie Shit'.
Now, before anyone gets annoyed and starts telling me how wrong I am and how this band were so influential etc etc. Let me just say I am telling you how I see it.
I may be wrong, of course. I'm not an oracvle of fucking wisdom.
I am just saying, Iron butterfly=hippie shit.
there you have it.
It's the kind of music you would hear on a woodstock type movie or some film from the sixties and there'd be people with flowers in their hair, dancing with their arms steretched out, spinning around in circles, to make the acid feel so much better.
I don't mind these kinds of tunes in that context but, seriously, when I put this album on I thought...oh shit, how long does this go on for?
It seemed to go on forever.
I'm not usually against music from that era but there are certain bands and certain music that does do my head in and Iron Butterfly fit the bill.
Annoying, whining on, hippie shit.
As I always said, don't listen to me: I KNOW NOTHING!
Download it and try for yourself.
I mean, they can't have such a huge following and fans for no reason I suppose.
Some people actually love this music.

You may be one of them.
Have a listen and then please, tell me what exactly it is that makes you like them.
Of if you listen and agree with me, even better! Leave a comment stroking my ego!
See you soon folks.

Bob Dylan & the Hawks - Hartford 30 Oct 1965 [FLAC] [bootleg]

Hello again.
Wow.
I'm on a roll here it seems!

Today I bring you something a little different. Well, it's Bob Dylan so nothing different there but it's Dylan in his very early days, playing with a band, 'The Hawks'. which is actually 'The Band' as you will no doubt have heard before, only with a member missing and another added!
Go have a wee read here if you wish.

Further info on this recording is here and I highly recommend you go read it before downloading!
This is an audience recording and, as I just learned from that link, was recorded on a Woolworth's handheld tape recorder. Quality is not great. In fact it's not even 'good'.
It's distant, it's got noise, crackles and well ... don't be expecting to put this on CD and have a crystal clear sound. It isn't happening! Hehe.
However! This is great to listen to for many reasons.
The first being that you get the chance to sit in on a concert that would have been great to go to ... Dylan, in his formative years, singing some of those tracks that were bound to become huge and are now classics that we all know.
You can almost hear the songs taking shape before they grew into the songs we know today.
I wouldn't recommend a new Dylan fan to listen to this as they may not feel the magic that I feel when I hear it, but to anyone who is a fan and loves early Dylan, you MUST get this.
You will not be disappointed!

VIDEO! Paolo Nutini LIVE at T in the Park 2009 (AVI or MKV)

Hello
As I said yesterday, here is the video of that great Paolo Nutini set at T in the Park 2009.
Have a little read of opinions of the show here to give you an idea:
Here, Here, Here and Here!

It's a faultless set in my opinion. There isn't much I can say really as I just love the guy's voice and could listen to him for hours. Not much chance of an objective review here!
If you like him then you must download this.
If you don't then I'd say it's time you reconsidered cos this guy is on fire here!

I got the file in MKV format which is high quality but a lot of people won't know what to do with such a format..or, they won't be able to just burn it to disc and play it on their DivX player (Like I have! they're great!!). so I decided to do a conversion to DivX too, and have also upload this as an AVI file.
So you can take your pick really. I'll just give some technical stuff on each file and then the links.
Enjoy won't you!

Paolo Nutini LIVE at T in the Park 2009

Hello folks.
I know. It's been too long. Let's just get straight to todays offering which I am rather pleased to be bringing you, not only for the fact that you will NOT find this anywhere else but here!
An exclusive no less!

Over recent month's I have become a fan of this guy Paolo Nutini. His voice is just excellent, real soul.
I was surprised to learn he is from a town called Paisley, near Glasgow in Scotland.
Why?
well just take it from me, I've been there a few times and it isn't the sort of place you'd expect singing to come from. apart from the singing drunks that are in the streets that is.
It's not the most pleasant place you can visit. Apologies to anyone from there but it's really a dump. Or how can I put it? the people there are a bit um.. boisterous?
That's one way of putting it.
I think it's safe to say that if you go there, not knowing anyone, trying to go to one of the pubs for a quiet drink, you may find yourself getting either threatened or just subjected to random attacks of a violent nature! Hehe! It happens!
On with this music...
I searched all over for such a long time, trying to locate what I knew had been released on newsgroups, which I do not subscribe to. I did in the past but I couldn't justify the massive amount of downloading and was requiring too much hard drive space! (Don't let me put you off cos' those ads on the left there for usenext, that's the place I used and you really do have free reign to download everything and I mean so much stuff that you end up going a bit mad at first! Plus so much of it never makes it to torrent land or elsewhere so can be handy).
So there I was searching the net for this file and eventually I actually found it waahaaaay!
Paolo Nutini Live at T in the Park, the video of it.
I have uploaded this file and will be posting it tomorrow but, for now I am giving you the audio which I ripped from the movie.
The format wasn't MP3 to start with it was mp2 which most people wouldn't want. I therefore converted it with the least possible quality loss. Decode to WAV, then recode to MP3 with a high bitrate.
It sounds great.
His performance on this is fucking amazing.
Seriously.
I may be biased of course, being such a fan already but, have a listen and tell me different!
He only has two albums out and it seems that bootlegs are a rare thing of his shows. there is one going around from 2009, a gig at Dunfermline in Scotland. I have this too but the audio quality is baaad.
An audience recording and it's just poor really.
It's worth a listen if you're a fan but, even then, it's hard to say anything other than it sounds like shit!
This one, on the other hand is crystal clear!
Ok, I'll leave it at that for now.

If you have been living in a box (as I apparently had been, being so late to discover this guy when the rest of the world knew of him ages ago/!) then have a read at
wikipedia
and familiarise yourself with the guys story.

Then have a listen to some brilliant music.
The movie of this show will be posted tomorrow and, as it was in .mkv format, I have made and up,loaded two versions. A divx avi file and the original mkv file for those that prefer it.
Both are great.

Track list
1. New Shoes (3:46)
2. Pencil Full Of Lead (2:50)
3. Candy (4:49)
4. High Hopes (3:22)
5. Alloway Grove (4:34)
