Rush or rushes may refer to:
Thomas "Tom" Sawyer is the title character of the Mark Twain novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). He appears in three other novels by Twain: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), Tom Sawyer Abroad (1894), and Tom Sawyer, Detective (1896).
Sawyer also appears in at least three unfinished Twain works, Huck and Tom Among the Indians, Schoolhouse Hill and Tom Sawyer's Conspiracy. While all three uncompleted works were posthumously published, only Tom Sawyer's Conspiracy has a complete plot, as Twain abandoned the other two works after finishing only a few chapters.
The fictional character's name may have been derived from a jolly and flamboyant fireman named Tom Sawyer with whom Twain was acquainted in San Francisco, California, while Twain was employed as a reporter at the San Francisco Call. Twain used to listen to Sawyer tell stories of his youth, "Sam, he would listen to these pranks of mine with great interest and he'd occasionally take 'em down in his notebook. One day he says to me: ‘I am going to put you between the covers of a book some of these days, Tom.’ ‘Go ahead, Sam,’ I said, ‘but don’t disgrace my name.’" Twain himself said the character sprang from three people, later identified as: John B. Briggs (who died in 1907), William Bowen (who died in 1893) and Twain; however Twain later changed his story saying Sawyer was fully formed solely from his imagination, but as Robert Graysmith says, "The great appropriator liked to pretend his characters sprang fully grown from his fertile mind."
The Canadian rock band Rush has written, recorded, and performed several instrumentals throughout its career.
From the 2112 album, "Overture" opens up one of Rush's concept suites. Geddy Lee's voice is recorded as an instrument in the early parts of the song, as he sings no words. However, there is, despite the Overture's overall instrumental nature, only one line sung at the end, as the piece transitions to "The Temples of Syrinx": "And the Meek shall inherit the Earth". Like some overtures, music from the 2112 overture is repeated or built upon in other places in the suite, such as "The Temples of Syrinx", "Presentation", "Oracle: The Dream", and "Soliloquy." At the end of Overture, there's a direct quotation from Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, played by Lifeson.
This section of the suite includes some spoken (not sung) lines at the end, with the following sentences repeated three times successively: "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation." and then "We have assumed control."
Aleksandar Živojinović, OC (born August 27, 1953), better known by his stage name Alex Lifeson, is a Canadian musician, best known as the guitarist of the Canadian rock band Rush. In 1968, Lifeson co-founded the band that would become Rush, with drummer John Rutsey and bassist and singer Jeff Jones. Jones was replaced by Geddy Lee a month later, and Rutsey was replaced by Neil Peart in 1974; the band's lineup has remained the same ever since.
With Rush, Lifeson plays electric and acoustic guitars, as well as other stringed instruments such as mandola, mandolin, and bouzouki. He also performs backing vocals in live performances, and occasionally plays keyboards and bass pedal synthesizers. Like the other members of Rush, Lifeson performs real-time on-stage triggering of sampled instruments, concurrently with his guitar playing.
The bulk of Lifeson's work in music has been with Rush, although Lifeson has contributed to a body of work outside of the band as well. Aside from music, Lifeson is part-owner of The Orbit Room, a bar and restaurant located in Toronto, a painter, and a licensed aircraft pilot.

Well, I never thought the roads of Katy Perry and Rush would ever cross, but here it is. From her performance on June 19, 2009 at the Hurricane Festival at Eichenring, Scheeßel, Germany. And to boot, it's not Tom Sawyer, or Closer To The Heart or YYZ. No. It's Cygnus X-1, arguably the most "proggy" song Rush has ever composed, played by a pop star. Wow. Just too weird.
RUSHのLa Villa Strangiatoのギターカバーにチャレンジしました。ベースとドラムだけの音源にギターをかぶせました。 I played guitar cover "La La Villa Strangiato" by RUSH. It's been only three years since I began to play guitar. By Hideyuki Yoshioka
Unfortunately, my piece is not so good. I've just wasted at the end. But that´s just live. There is a simple solution. Plug at the end of the song your fingers in your ears. lol...

Playing Tom Sawyer using my DIY electronic drum set. I'm using Superior Drummer 2.3 as the sound source and the drumless track is from Jammit (on-line download). Hats off to Neil Peart for creating such an incredible and challenging drum track. Hope you enjoy it!
