Montella

Montella is an Italian town and comune (municipality) in the province of Avellino, Campania, with a population of 8,013. The zone was inhabited already in the neolithic period. The town was born like Samnites' village in the 1st millennium BC, to become a municipality of the Roman empire and a town under the Longobards.

Montella is the sister city of Norristown, in Pennsylvania; many inhabitants of Norristown hail from Montella.

Montella is famous around the world for its chestnuts, that has been the DOC identification.

Giovanni Palatucci, honored by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in 1990 as one of the Righteous Among the Nations, who saved more than 5000 Jews during World War II, was born here.

Italian singer Aurelio Fierro was born here. Basketball coach Geno Auriemma, a member of both the Naismith Memorial and Women's Basketball Halls of Fame, was also born in the commune, although he emigrated with his family to the United States at age 7. Grandparents of Maria Bello moreover came from Montella.

Vincenzo Montella

Vincenzo Montella (Italian pronunciation: [vinˈtʃɛntso monˈtɛlla]; born 18 June 1974) is a retired Italian footballer, who played as a striker, and who is currently a manager of Sampdoria.

Montella's nickname during his playing career was L'Aeroplanino ("The Little Airplane"), in reference to his small stature and trademark goal celebration, in which he spread his arms like wings. He was known as a quick, hard-working, and opportunistic striker, with an eye for goal, and has also been described as a "fine all round player, with excellent passing and dribbling skills." Montella is remembered for his performances with Roma (1999–2007), winning the Serie A title and the Supercoppa Italiana with the club during the 2000–01 season, also later reaching the 2003 Coppa Italia Final. In 2013, Montella was inducted into the A.S. Roma Hall of Fame. At international level, he was notably a member of the Italian team that reached the final of UEFA Euro 2000, and he also represented his country at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Serie A (Italian pronunciation: [ˈsɛːrje ˈa]), also called Serie A TIM due to sponsorship by Telecom Italia, is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system and has been operating for over eighty years since the 1929–30 season. It had been organized by Lega Calcio until 2010, but a new league, the Lega Serie A, was created for the 2010–11 season. Serie A is regarded as one of the best football leagues in the world and it is often depicted as the most tactical national league. Serie A is the world's second strongest national league according to IFFHS and has produced the highest number of European Cup finalists: Italian clubs have reached the final of the competition on a record twenty-six different occasions, winning the title twelve times. Serie A is ranked 4th among European leagues according to UEFA's league coefficient behind La Liga, Bundesliga and Premier League, which is based on the performance of Italian clubs in the Champions League and the Europa League during the last five years. Serie A led the UEFA ranking from 1986 to 1988 and from 1990 to 1999.
