A symbol is a person or a concept that represents, stands for or suggests another idea, visual image, belief, action or material entity. Symbols take the form of words, sounds, gestures, ideas or visual images and are used to convey other ideas and beliefs. For example, a red octagon may be a symbol for "STOP". On a map, a blue line might represent a river. Numerals are symbols for numbers. Alphabetic letters may be symbols for sounds. Personal names are symbols representing individuals. A red rose may symbolize love and compassion. The variable x in a mathematical equation may symbolize the position of a particle in space.
In cartography, an organized collection of symbols forms a legend for a map.
The word derives from the Greek symbolon (σύμβολον) meaning token or watchword. It is an amalgam of syn- "together" + bole "a throwing, a casting, the stroke of a missile, bolt, beam." The sense evolution in Greek is from "throwing things together" to "contrasting" to "comparing" to "token used in comparisons to determine if something is genuine." Hence, "outward sign" of something. The meaning "something which stands for something else" was first recorded in 1590, in Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queene.
Symbols of Power: At the Time of Stonehenge is a book dealing with the archaeology of hierarchical symbols in the British Isles during the Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages. Co-written by the archaeologists D.V. Clarke, T.G. Cowie and Andrew Foxon, it also contained additional contributions from other authors including John C. Barrett and Joan Taylor. Published by the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland in 1985, it was designed to accompany an exhibition on the same subject that was held that year in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Focusing in on the use of theme of how power, prestige and status were manifested in the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages, it looks primarily at "the ideology of domination", in doing so adopting a quasi-Marxist approach. The book proceeds from a discussion of how hierarchical symbols are found in society to looking at the role of ancestor veneration in Early Neolithic Britain through the construction of chambered tombs. It then continues to look at the changes which accompanied the transition to Late Neolithic society, with an end to ancestor veneration and the construction of new forms of ritual monument, like henges and stone circles. Moving on, it looks at the arrival of Beaker pottery and metallurgy in the British Isles, arguing that this brought with it a new social elite who became dominant during the ensuing Early Bronze Age.
The Meaning is one of two albums rapper Layzie Bone released on February 22, 2011. He released this on RBC Records with The Definition.
As Above... was an album released in 1982 by Þeyr, a legendary Icelandic new wave and rock group and it was issued through Shout on a 12" vinyl record.
Formed by 12 tracks, As above... contained English versions of the group’s hits. A song that outstands from the rest is "Killer Boogie", a work deemed as an attempt by the group to achieve the international market.
"Killer Boogie" and "Rúdolf" are featured again in Rokk í Reykjavík (Rock in Reykjavík), a concert compilation released in 1982 with the presence of other renowned Icelandic bands. There is also a video for this compilation which was edited on VHS format only.
"Rúdolf" contains a sample of Hitler saying "Around us is Germany. In us Germany marches. And behind us Germany follows". It was a fragment taken from Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will), a propaganda film directed by Leni Riefenstahl in 1934. However, the record inserts credit A. Schicklgruber as the impersonator of Hitler’s voice.
The title of the album is thought to be inspired by Killing Joke's What's THIS For...! from 1981 and with sarcasm refers either to the band's name or their previous works (in the sense that "as above" is written on application forms). It is more generally considered to be half of the maxim "As Above, So Below" that is quoted by every occultist and originates in the second line of the ancient alchemical tract Tabula Smaragdina.
Below the belt is a term in combat sports.

Written language, the hallmark of human civilization, didn't just suddenly appear one day. Thousands of years before the first fully developed writing systems, our ancestors scrawled geometric signs across the walls of the caves they sheltered in. Paleoanthropologist and rock art researcher Genevieve von Petzinger has studied and codified these ancient markings in caves across Europe. The uniformity of her findings suggest that graphic communication, and the ability to preserve and transmit messages beyond a single moment in time, may be much older than we think. top 10 facts about your dreams you need to understand Subscribe to TheHub http://goo.gl/87YJzG For copyright matters please contact us at: david.f@valnetinc.com Hearing about other people’s dreams can be one of the most annoying things you have to sit through. It may be incredibly interesting to them that they battled Sharon Osborne while riding an emu and texting the Dalia Lama, but no one else cares. However, many people think that dreams do contain encoded messages and ideas, which our unconscious mind is somehow trying to communicate with us. The famous psychotherapists, Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, were fascinated by the subject of dreams. They built a lot of analysis around them to try to gain an insight into their patients’ inner thoughts. A lot of us forget our dreams immediately...
This is another one of my slide shows. I have a deep interest in everything symbolic, and this is no exception... not all the symbols are alchemy as there are a few otehrs too. :) Alchimia or Alquimie; Al Khem (Khem/Keme/KHMI) or Black earth (Ancient Egyptian)+ ЈΩŞĦǗǺ (Thanks to Archaic Symbolism for the slide show inspiration) NOTES; (NOT MINE!) Alchemy Origins, transmutation, study, practice and science It is rather amusing that chemistry, which is such an important part of modern science, has grown out of the much ridiculed researches and practices, as well as superstitions, of the ancient alchemists. What is still more amusing is the fact that the alchemists used strange terms in order to hide their secrets, which, together with the many ridiculous names they gave to the various in...
So many times you tried to let me know
That for so long I'm out of your shore
So this time I'm gonna let you go
'Cause honey, I don't want you more
I met a girl who really turns me on
She's so hot
Just one more look I'm waiting for
She teases me right on the spot
Hot lips, long legs
She's got everything you don't
So smart, so pretty
She's got everything I want
It's really boring being with you
And that's the reason I'm getting out
You turned my life a real mess
Oh shit! I'm getting crazy with you!
I met a girl and now I just think of her
I must confess I felt in love
She's just so perfect, I can't believe!
