Great Southern Automobile Company
The Great Southern Automobile Company was the first automobile manufacturer in the central South. It was incorporated in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1909 and manufactured automobiles, automobile parts, and buses from its plant in Ensley, where it also maintained a repair department. Its founding officers were Eugene F. Enslen, president; Ike Adler, vice-president; John Kyser, secretary and treasurer; and Eugene F. Enslen, Jr., general manager.
In early 1910, it announced a Model "50" touring car with a wheel base of 124 inches, a 5.25x6 inches bore and stroke engine, capable of 60 bhp.
In 1912, it opened salesrooms in the Empire Building, then the tallest building in Birmingham. The manager was W. O. Fields.
In 1913, it was manufacturing two models:
In 1914, it dropped the Great Southern 30, and concentrated on the manufacture of just the Great Southern 50 chassis, formerly titled the Great Southern 51. The new 50 model was a seven passenger touring body.

Dickey Betts
Forrest Richard "Dickey" Betts (born December 12, 1943) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and composer best known as a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band.
He was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and also won with the band a best rock performance Grammy Award for his instrumental "Jessica" in 1996. Recognized as one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time, he had early on in his career one of rock’s finest guitar partnerships with Duane Allman, introducing melodic twin guitar harmony and counterpoint which "rewrote the rules for how two rock guitarists can work together, completely scrapping the traditional rhythm/lead roles to stand toe to toe". Dickey Betts was ranked #58 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list in 2003, and #61 on the list published in 2011.
Biography
Born in West Palm Beach and raised in Bradenton, Florida, Betts grew up in a musical family listening to bluegrass, country and Western Swing music. He started playing ukulele at five and, as his hands got bigger, moved on to mandolin, banjo, and guitar. At sixteen and feeling the need for something "a little faster," he played in a series of rock bands on the Florida circuit, up the East Coast and into the Midwest before forming the Second Coming with Berry Oakley in 1967. According to Rick Derringer, the "group called the Jokers" referenced in "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" was one of Betts' early groups.

In 2021, I travelled on Journey Beyond's Overland train from Melbourne to Adelaide, the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Adelaide, the Ghan Platinum service from Adelaide to Darwin. The Great Southern is the company's brand new luxury train service. In the 2021-2022 season, Journey Beyond organised a special Christmas Great Southern trip, it departs Adelaide on Christmas Eve, passengers will then enjoy a sumptuous feast at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra on Christmas day, and after a short stopover in Coffs Harbour, the train will arrive Brisbane on boxing day. In 2021, I travelled on Journey Beyond's Overland train from Melbourne to Adelaide, the Indian Pacific from Sydney to Adelaide, the Ghan Platinum service from Adelaide to Darwin. The Great Southern is the company's brand new luxury train service. In the 2021-2022 season, Journey Beyond organised a special Christmas Great Southern trip, it departs Adelaide on Christmas Eve, passengers will then enjoy a sumptuous feast at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra on Christmas day, and after a short stopover in Coffs Harbour, the train will arrive Brisbane on boxing day. After 2 months of editing, I have put this festive three-day journey into a one hour long video, I hope you'll enjoy it! Let's go!!

Step aboard Australia's newest luxury train, The Great Southern, to see what the three-day, two-night 2600km journey from Adelaide to Brisbane via Australia's South East entails.
The Great Southern returned for its third season in 2021, its distinctive orange locomotives emblazoned with the kangaroo.
