The Candymen were an American pop quintet active 1965-1972 which prefigured the Atlanta Rhythm Section. The group were managed by Atlanta producer-songwriter Buddy Buie and included guitarists Barry Bailey and J.R. Cobb, singer Rodney Justo, drummer Robert Nix and keyboard player Dean Daughtry. The band's chart singles included "Georgia Pines" (1967) and "Ways" (1968). They often performed as the backing band of Roy Orbison.

Roy Kelton Orbison (April 23, 1936 – December 6, 1988), nicknamed the Big O, was an American singer-songwriter and musician, known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads. Between 1960 and 1964, 22 of his songs placed on the Billboard Top 40, including "Only the Lonely", "Crying", and "Oh, Pretty Woman".
The combination of Orbison's powerful, impassioned voice and complex musical arrangements led many critics to refer to his music as operatic, giving him the sobriquet "the Caruso of Rock". His voice ranged from baritone to tenor, and music scholars have suggested that he had a three- or four-octave range. While most male performers in rock and roll in the 1950s and 1960s projected a defiant masculinity, many of Orbison's songs instead conveyed a quiet, desperate vulnerability. He was known for performing while standing still and solitary and for wearing black clothes and dark sunglasses, which lent an air of mystery.
Psychedelic pop from 1967.Roy Orbison's backing band in a song from their self-titled album.A brilliant piece of music in the peak of the psychedelic era.
This song won't give you any indication, but the Candy Men are Roy Orbison's backing band.
Roy Orbison's backing band for a few years had a number of great songs on their own. This one is taken off their 1967 LP just titled, The Candymen.

In their amazing show one can imagine side by side Christina Aguilera and Ray Charles, The Clash and Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin and Prince, Gloria Gaynor and Ella Fitzgerald, Guns'n'Roses and The Beatles. The arrangements are studied to recreate 1930's club atmospheres, with sophisticated vocal harmonies and the typical swing, mambo, samba and boogie woogie rhythms. The Candymen were Roy Orbison's backing band in the mid-sixties.They started out in Dothan, Alabama as The Webs. Roy Orbison took an interest in the band, and hired them as his backing group at which time The Webs became The Candymen, named after Orbison's hit "Candy Man".Their debut Lp got to #195. Their only other album, ''THE CANDYMEN BRING YOU CANDYPOWER ''didn't chart at all. "Sentimental Lady" with"Ways" as the B-side was a beautiful single from that album.
