Chughtai or Chagatai (Turkish: Çağatay, Urdu: چغتائی) is a family name originated in Chaghataite Khanate and later taken by successors of Chaghatai Khan all over the world.
Chughtai is a distorted form of Chaghadai which is a version of Chagan (white) formed using the –dai suffix as described in "On the Documentation and Construction of Period Mongolian Names" by Baras-aghur Naran; it defines Chaghadai as he who is white.
The origin of Chughtai as surname is claimed to be arisen in Chaghataite Khanate as taken up by the descendents and successors of Chaghatai Khan. For instance, Mughal King Babur claimed lineage to Chaghatai Khan. Accordingly, some of the other descendents of the successors of Chaghatai Khan in South and Central Asia use variants such as Mirza, Baig & Khan.
Ismat Chughtai (Urdu: عصمت چغتائی) (August 1915 – 24 October 1991)1 was an eminent Indian writer in Urdu, known for her indomitable spirit and a fierce feminist ideology. Considered the grand dame of Urdu fiction, Chugtai was one of the Muslim writers who stayed in India after the subcontinent was partitioned. Along with Rashid Jahan, Wajeda Tabassum and Qurratulain Hyder, Ismat's work stands for the birth of a revolutionary feminist politics and aesthetics in twentieth century Urdu literature. She explored feminine sexuality, middle-class gentility, and other evolving conflicts in modern India. Her outspoken and controversial style of writing made her the passionate voice for the unheard, and she has become an inspiration for the younger generation of writers, readers and intellectuals.
She was born in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh and grew up largely in Jodhpur where her father was a civil servant. She was ninth of ten children (six brothers, four sisters), and since her older sisters got married while Ismat was very young, the better part of her childhood was spent in the company of her brothers, a factor which she admits contributed greatly to the frankness in her nature and writing. Her brother, Mirza Azim Beg Chughtai, already an established writer, when Ismat was still in her teens, was her first teacher and mentor. She had her early education in the Women's College of Aligarh Muslim University.

Dr. Omar Chughtai - Director of Operations was at TV One on Sahir Lohdi's Show, Ap Ka Sahir. Television is always a better and bigger platform to educate masses and Chughtai Lab is thankful to TV One for providing a free hand platform to convey the message among women.
Dr. Mariam Chughtai, Director, Chughtai Lab I was 4.5 years old when Chughtai Lab was established. I am quite closely involved in Chughtai foundation, Chughtai public library, Medical School Camps and Scanning Projects. I really like, when I step into the lab and see men and women working together as equals. The fact that any girl working at Chughtai Lab feels like she is Dr. Chughtai’s own daughter. I would like to be with myself. And think about the challenges that I faced up to this time, and remind myself that this too shall pass. The biggest obstacle in a woman’s life is her own internal narrative, that she can't do anything, what is acceptable or not acceptable in our society, culture and norms. So, her self-internalization is the biggest hurdle to her progress. Developing a human c...
Classic Story "Bhabhi" By Great Writer "Ismat Chugtai" Ismat Chughtai was one of the most prominent and debated Indian writers of Urdu Literature. She created bold female protagonists from her varied personal experiences and tried to portray their particular resistance against male counterparts. a young sister of Bhaiya (the old ripe husband), who narrates the story of her brother’s many marriages. She looks through the intricacies of these many marriages sometimes as a child narrator and sometimes as an adult narrator. When she narrates the story as a child she took the side of her brother and she realizes the misogynist behaviour of her brother only when she matures. The main motive of this old husband is to make his young bride a house wife overburdened with work and children. To...

Saadat Hasan Manto on Ismat Chughtai performed by Usha Ganguly
Event: Lifting the Veil: Celebrating Ismat Chughtai at the British Council Library in Karachi. Friday, 19 August, 2016. An introduction of Ismat Chughtai in her own words, performed by Bakhtawar Mazhar at the British Council Library in Karachi. A delightful account of several crucial years of Ismat’s life by one of the most significant Urdu writers of all times, herself. Alongside vivid descriptions of her childhood years are the conflicted experiences of growing up in a large Muslim family during the early decades of the twentieth century. Chughtai is searingly honest about her fight to get an education and the struggle to find her own voice as a writer.

Your are the queen
I'm just a pawn
In the chess game of life
Send me to war
A whisper to the king
Of the favours you gave me
I will take my chance
On a crusade of love
Be my Lady of the Lake
Come love me before it's too late
Be my Lady of the Lake
For the angel with the sword of death won't wait
The colours that I wear
Show me just how much you care
Lady
My body is done
My soul will return
To the Lady of the Lake
Dying came too soon
Cry no more tears
There's love after life
A king and his queen everlasting light
Be my Lady of the Lake
Come love me before it's too late
The colours that I wear
Show me just how much you care
