Raymond Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004), professionally known as Ray Charles, was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and composer. He was sometimes referred to as "The Genius", and was also nicknamed "The High Priest of Soul".
He pioneered the genre of soul music during the 1950s by combining rhythm and blues, Gospel, and blues styles into the music he recorded for Atlantic Records. He also contributed to the racial integration of country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his two Modern Sounds albums. While he was with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be granted artistic control by a mainstream record company.
Charles was blind from the age of seven. Charles cited Nat King Cole as a primary influence, but his music was also influenced by jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, and country artists of the day, including Art Tatum, Louis Jordan, Charles Brown, and Louis Armstrong. Charles' playing reflected influences from country blues, barrelhouse, and stride piano styles. He had strong ties to Quincy Jones, who often cared for him and showed him the ropes of the "music club industry."
"What'd I Say" (or "What I Say") is an American Rhythm and blues song, by Ray Charles released in 1959. As single divided into two parts, it was one of the first soul songs. The composition was improvised one evening late in 1958 when Charles, his orchestra, and backup singers had played their entire set list at a show and still had time left; the response from many audiences was so enthusiastic that Charles announced to his producer that he was going to record it.
After his run of R&B hits, this song finally broke Charles into mainstream pop music and itself sparked a new subgenre of R&B titled soul, finally putting together all the elements that Charles had been creating since he recorded "I Got a Woman" in 1954. The gospel and rhumba influences combined with the sexual innuendo in the song made it not only widely popular but very controversial to both white and black audiences. It earned Ray Charles his first gold record and has been one of the most influential songs in R&B and rock and roll history. For the rest of his career, Charles closed every concert with the song. It was added to the National Recording Registry in 2002 and ranked at number 10 in Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".
What I Say is a two volume CD album of live recordings of Miles Davis. Volume 1 features Gary Bartz and Keith Jarrett. The album was released on JMY Records label in Italy.

Charles is a masculine given name from the French form Charles of a Germanic name Karl. The original Anglo-Saxon was Ċearl or Ċeorl, as the name of king Cearl of Mercia, that disappeared after the Norman conquest of England.
The corresponding Old Norse form is Karl, the German form is also Karl. The name was notably borne by Charlemagne (Charles the Great), and was at the time Latinized as Karolus (as in Vita Karoli Magni), later also as Carolus.
The name's etymology is a Common Germanic noun *karlaz meaning "free man", which survives in English as churl (< Old English ċeorl), which developed its deprecating sense in the Middle English period.
In the form Charles, the initial spelling ch- corresponds to the palatalization of the Latin group ca- to [tʃa] in Central Old French (Francien) and the final -s to the former subjective case (cas sujet) of masculine names in Old French like in Giles or James (< Latin -us, see Spanish/ Portuguese Carlos).
According to Julius Pokorny, the historical linguist and Indo-Europeanist, the root meaning of Karl is "old man", from Indo-European *ĝer-, where the ĝ is a palatal consonant, meaning "to rub; to be old; grain." An old man has been worn away and is now grey with age.

For more info - http://www.eagle-rock.com/artist/ray-charles/#.U-jdrDhwaB8 Ray Charles was one of the true pioneers of soul music. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world. This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes. The full performance is available on the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux...

In my first collaboration with Shilo, I recently created this short animation for Target as an artistic interpretation on the theme "Surprise & Delight in Red & White". The spot is currently being showcased on an array of large screens at Californian event venue LA Live along with animations by different artists. In this short story, I chose to take the viewer through a revolving world, seamlessly shifting scale and transitioning from a microscopic environment to distant overhead view of planet earth. Although the camera is mostly static, the change in scale in the animated elements give the viewer the sensation that we are constantly distancing ourselves from the small planet. A subtle nod to Charles and Ray Eames’ film “Powers of Ten” from 1977. Below are some of the style frames crea...

[HELP ME MAKE MORE VIDEO ESSAYS LIKE THIS! https://www.patreon.com/AdamWestbrook] It was the change that no-one saw coming: the idea that we could take a book, a painting or a song and send it through cables and wires and even thin air to the other end of the world - and it would be identical on the other side. But this idea underpins everything about the Information Age we live in. How did we make such a mind bending transition into the digital world? And how does it work? It turns out it's all based on a concept that is surprisingly beautiful in its simplicity. This short video essay explores what that idea is and tells you about the man who figured it all out. Computers are everywhere and control almost every aspect of our lives. In the next 6 minutes you'll find out how they really ...

Hell, different time zones and a big fat ocean can't stop SUPERSWEET enjoying a face-to-face interview with San Diego's pariahs Crocodiles (ah thank you, Skype). Members, Brandon Welchez and Charles Rowell got up at the crack of dawn, giggling, giddy and still bearing their trademark shades to let loose news about their album 'Sleep Forever'. Yet with a tendency to burp and replace answers with incessant laughing at any "serious" questions asked, we let them have their fun, so we could have ours. Cue Princess Michael, our gender confused cat; she put them right in their place revealing their clumsy moments, always wearing Ray-Bans and why on earth their album has only eight tracks. The verdict? We LOL'd so hard we made a gag-reel of their best bits! Music: Crocodiles Interview: Gemma Dem...
Pianist and educator Marcus Roberts' love for the history of jazz and stride piano is what's kept the musician in jazz circles as one of many who are keeping this music's rich legacy and tradition relevant. His latest disc "New Orleans Meets Harlem" is his first release in eight years. Roberts dives into some of jazz music's musical architects ranging from Scott Joplin, James P. Johnson, to Thelonious Monk. What's more interesting is that he's decided to take his career in his own hands by releasing it on Marcus's J-Master Records label. The CD features this trio of over 10 years featuring 2011 NEA Jazz Master Jason Marsails on drums and Roland Guerin on bass. Marcus stressed that his trio focuses on "the bass and drums. It's the key foundation of anything." "J-Master," affectionately by...

You don't see the shadows in my eyes
Holding tightly this disguise
Liquid sun drips down your face
Falling over me like a wave
It's mostly what I say
Hear this message I convey
Hey, excuse me can you come play
I want to watch the night fade into day
Because in here its feels like a shadow deep inside your soul
You know the music is possessed and now I'm gonna take control
Take control don't be sad don't be non 'till you try
There no rules in this game why you putting up a fight?
Penetrate deep
It tastes so sweet
I'm gonna take this beef
