The Rajya Sabha has passed four GST or Goods and Services Tax bills without amendments setting the stage for the government to launch on July 1, the country's biggest tax reform since Independence. Just before the bills were voted on after a two-day debate in the upper house, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh intervened and asked his party the Congress not to seek changes in them to "maintain consensus and federal agreement."

In 1991 when India was on the brink of an economic collapse, the then Prime Minister of India, the shrewd polyglot P V Narasimha Rao, pulled off a masterstroke when he appointed Manmohan Singh, an Oxford educated economist who had served in various roles in the government as a bureaucrat as the Finance Minister. Taking a radical turn from Nehru's socialistic economic model, Manmohan Singh opened up the Indian markets with reforms that heralded the rebirth of the nation. In 2004, when Sonia Gandhi, much to everyone's surprise, decided not to occupy the PM's chair, she decided to appoint Manmohan to the top post. And thus began the UPA era. While the plan to have Sonia Gandhi handle the tribulations of coalition politics, it was decided that Manmohan would handle the administration. The dual centre model of power was fraught with peril and while UPA-I did see India touching unprecedented growth rates, UPA-II woul see Indian economy hitting the doldrums apart from being hit by a series of scams, unprecedented in both their scale and complicity of the government. Manmohan leaves behind a mixed legacy. While his crtics will continue to maintain that he was a rubber stamp Prime Minister, his supporters, though few in number, will credit him for his hard stance on the Indo-US nuclear deal. After heading the country for ten years, Manmohan Singh gets set to retire from politics and it is time to wish the Prime Minister goodbye.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said in Rajya Sabha that the war against black money and corruption is not against any political party and there is no reason for anyone to dissociate from it.
The Congress has decided to boycott Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament until he apologises for his “raincoat” jibe made against former PM Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, putting questions on the functioning of the ongoing Budget Session and the upcoming Monsoon Session.

A combative Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday (March 6) hit out at BJP in the Lok Sabha for trying to belittle UPA government's achievements saying the party will fail at the hustings next year like it did in 2004 and 2009. In an apparent reference to Narendra Modi's attack on Congress as "termites" and him as a "night watchman" at the BJP National Council meeting in Delhi on Sunday, he said the party hurled the "choicest abuses" against the Congress leadership and made it clear he would not reply to them in "that language". STORYLINE:
Oxford-educated economist Manmohan Singh, the eldest of 10 children born to a poor fruit-seller, became on Saturday India's first
prime minister drawn from the country's minority Sikh religion.
Singh, 71, shot to prominence as finance minister beginning in 1991, when India, burdened by an unsustainable fiscal deficit of close to 8.5 percent of gross domestic product, was on the verge of economic collapse.
Today, India's economy is roaring back, with GDP chugging along at an annual growth rate of 8 percent.
Politicians and economists on all sides credit Singh with setting the turnaround in motion, though some of the communists who will be supporting his Congress party-led coalition from the outside fought many of his policies.
But Singh believes the free market can't be counted on to help India's poorest, and promised "growth with a human face."
Besides the economy, Singh's government will face tough step-by-step negotiations with rival neighbour Pakistan to end five decades of violence and animosity, aiming to resolve their conflicting claims to the Himalayan region of Kashmir.
Pakistani officials arrive in India on Monday night for the next set of talks on measures to handle the two nations' nuclear weapons.
Singh was educated at Punjab University; Oxford, where he earned his Phd. in economics; and Cambridge.
He taught for nine years at Punjab University, then the Delhi School of Economics before joining the government as chief economic adviser, finance secretary and governor of the central bank.
Singh has never won an election, and is not a member of the most powerful lower house of Parliament, the Lok Sabha. He qualifies to be prime minister because he is an appointed member of the upper house, the Rajya Saba.
Other prime ministers in his position have sought election within six months from a safe Lok Sabha seat held by a party colleague, but in the hectic days of working to form a coalition government, Singh has yet to say if he will do the same.

Manmohan Singh (Punjabi: [mənˈmoːɦən ˈsɪ́ŋɡ]; born 26 September 1932) is an Indian economist who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. The first Sikh in office, Singh was the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term.
Born in Gah (now in Punjab, Pakistan), Singh's family migrated to India during its partition in 1947. After obtaining his doctorate in economics from Oxford, Singh worked for the United Nations in 1966–69. He subsequently began his bureaucratic career when Lalit Narayan Mishra hired him as an advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Over the 70s and 80s, Singh held several key posts in the Government of India, such as Chief Economic Advisor (1972–76), Reserve Bank governor (1982–85) and Planning Commission head (1985–87).
In 1991, as India faced a severe economic crisis, newly elected Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao surprisingly inducted the apolitical Singh into his cabinet as Finance Minister. Over the next few years, despite strong opposition, he as a Finance Minister carried out several structural reforms that liberalised India's economy. Although these measures proved successful in averting the crisis, and enhanced Singh's reputation globally as a leading reform-minded economist, the incumbent Congress party fared poorly in the 1996 general election. Subsequently, Singh served as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha (the upper house of India's Parliament) during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government of 1998–2004.

Prime minister
A prime minister is the most senior minister of cabinet in the executive branch of government, often in a parliamentary or semi-presidential system. In many systems, the prime minister selects and may dismiss other members of the cabinet, and allocates posts to members within the government. In parliamentary systems fashioned after the Westminster system, the prime minister is the presiding and actual head of government and head of the executive branch. The Rajya Sabha or Council of States is the upper house of the Parliament of India. Membership of Rajya Sabha is limited by the Constitution to a maximum of 250 members, and current laws have provision for 245 members. Most of the members of the House are indirectly elected by state and territorial legislatures using single transferable votes, while the President of India can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services. Members sit for staggered six-year terms, with one third of the members retiring every two years.
The Rajya Sabha meets in continuous sessions, and unlike the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, is not subject to dissolution. The Rajya Sabha has equal footing in all areas of legislation with Lok Sabha, except in the area of supply, where the Lok Sabha has overriding powers. In the case of conflicting legislation, a joint sitting of the two houses can be held. However, since the Lok Sabha has twice as many members as the Rajya Sabha, the former would normally hold the greater power. Joint sittings of the Houses of Parliament of India are rare, and in the history of the Republic, only three such joint-sessions have been held; the latest one for the passage of the 2002 Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Sonia Gandhi (
pronunciation ; born Edvige Antonia Albina Màino, 9 December 1946) is an Italian-born Indian politician, who has served as President of the Indian National Congress party since 1998. She is the widow of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi who belonged to the Nehru–Gandhi family. After her husband's assassination in 1991, she was invited by Congress leaders to take over the government but she refused and publicly stayed away from politics amidst constant prodding from the party. She finally agreed to join politics in 1997; in 1998, she was elected President of the Congress party.
She has served as the Chairperson of the ruling United Progressive Alliance in the Lok Sabha since 2004. In September 2010, on being re-elected for the fourth time, she became the longest serving president in the 125-year history of the Congress party. Her foreign birth has been a subject of much debate and controversy. Also controversial was her alleged friendship with Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, accused of being a middleman in the Bofors scandal. Although Sonia is the fifth foreign-born person to be leader of the Congress Party, she is the first since independence in 1947.

Singh, 71, shot to prominence as finance minister beginning in 1991, when India, burdened by an unsustainable fiscal deficit of close to 8.5 percent of gross domestic product, was on the verge of economic collapse. Today, India's economy is roaring back, with GDP chugging along at an annual growth rate of 8 percent. Politicians and economists on all sides credit Singh with setting the turnaround in motion, though some of the communists who will be supporting his Congress party-led coalition from the outside fought many of his policies. He taught for nine years at Punjab University, then the Delhi School of Economics before joining the government as chief economic adviser, finance secretary and governor of the central bank. Singh has never won an election, and is not a member of the most powerful lower house of Parliament, the Lok Sabha. He qualifies to be prime minister because he is an appointed member of the upper house, the Rajya Saba. In 1991 when India was on the brink of an economic collapse, the then Prime Minister of India, the shrewd polyglot P V Narasimha Rao, pulled off a masterstroke when he appointed Manmohan Singh, an Oxford educated economist who had served in various roles in the government as a bureaucrat as the Finance Minister. Taking a radical turn from Nehru's socialistic economic model, Manmohan Singh opened up the Indian markets with reforms that heralded the rebirth of the nation. In 2004, when Sonia Gandhi, much to everyone's surprise, decided not to occupy the PM's chair, she decided to appoint Manmohan to the top post. And thus began the UPA era. While the plan to have Sonia Gandhi handle the tribulations of coalition politics, it was decided that Manmohan would handle the administration. The dual centre model of power was fraught with peril and while UPA-I did see India touching unprecedented growth rates, UPA-II woul see Indian economy hitting the doldrums apart from being hit by a series of scams, unprecedented in both their scale and complicity of the government. Manmohan leaves behind a mixed legacy. While his crtics will continue to maintain that he was a rubber stamp Prime Minister, his supporters, though few in number, will credit him for his hard stance on the Indo-US nuclear deal. After heading the country for ten years, Manmohan Singh gets set to retire from politics and it is time to wish the Prime Minister goodbye.

STORYLINE:
Oxford-educated economist Manmohan Singh, the eldest of 10 children born to a poor fruit-seller, became on Saturday India's first
prime minister drawn from the country's minority Sikh religion.
Singh, 71, shot to prominence as finance minister beginning in 1991, when India, burdened by an unsustainable fiscal deficit of close to 8.5 percent of gross domestic product, was on the verge of economic collapse.
Today, India's economy is roaring back, with GDP chugging along at an annual growth rate of 8 percent.
Politicians and economists on all sides credit Singh with setting the turnaround in motion, though some of the communists who will be supporting his Congress party-led coalition from the outside fought many of his policies.
But Singh believes the free market can't be counted on to help India's poorest, and promised "growth with a human face."
Besides the economy, Singh's government will face tough step-by-step negotiations with rival neighbour Pakistan to end five decades of violence and animosity, aiming to resolve their conflicting claims to the Himalayan region of Kashmir.
Pakistani officials arrive in India on Monday night for the next set of talks on measures to handle the two nations' nuclear weapons.
Singh was educated at Punjab University; Oxford, where he earned his Phd. in economics; and Cambridge.
He taught for nine years at Punjab University, then the Delhi School of Economics before joining the government as chief economic adviser, finance secretary and governor of the central bank.
Singh has never won an election, and is not a member of the most powerful lower house of Parliament, the Lok Sabha. He qualifies to be prime minister because he is an appointed member of the upper house, the Rajya Saba.
Other prime ministers in his position have sought election within six months from a safe Lok Sabha seat held by a party colleague, but in the hectic days of working to form a coalition government, Singh has yet to say if he will do the same.

For 5 days program we created the video fillers, Unique Background Design, Logo animation, Supporting Graphics & Animation for all conferences for two different halls. Films were based on the theme of the conferences.

The Dabhol – Bangalore Natural Gas Pipeline has connected South India to the national gas grid for the first time. The Dabhol – Bangalore Natural Gas Pipeline was inaugurated By Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on 3 December 2013.
The trickiest thing was to create the pipeline with different camera angles and get the exact look and feel according to client perspective.
We spent a great deal of time devising the idea, creating storyboards and adding a truck load of references.

INTRODUCTION: Brooklyn Arts Council’s Folk Arts programs is pleased to present tonight’s artists in partnership with BAM Café Live. Our Folk Arts programs recognizes the use of traditional music as a basis for contemporary, hybrid styles, which are very popular among young Brooklyn musicians today. Tonight’s music will explore the use of folk expression and highlight the dynamic traditional art forms alive and well in Brooklyn. Aziz Peerzada and Saboor Aziz will play a variety of Semi-Classical, Ghazal, Folk, and Sufi songs. These songs represent music and language from the Sindh, Baluchistan, Punjab, and Sarhad (or Frontier) provinces of Pakistan. Pakistan has 4 states and I will be singing a different style of song from every state. Here's a list of the songs and a few words on them.
1. "Chitta chowla": this is a popular saraiki folk song and is usually sung in the mountain area of Pakistan
2. "Bun ke mera parvana": this is a pashto folk style happy song
3. "Mor tho tillay rana": this is a very popular sindhi song
4. "Punjabi Mahiya": this song is usually sung at punjabi weddings
5. "Dhamal(dama dum mast kalandar)": this is a very popular sufi song especially in Pakistan and India

Rhythm Tolee will play a mix of original songs and their own versions of Sufi and folk music with Jazz and Reggae influences.
1. Chaap Tilak - A Sufi Poem by Amir Khusro. The poet expresses love and devotion towards his/her beloved.
2. Yaadan - Rhythm Tolee Original song. Written by Nav Deep, song is about memories and longing for the moment when lovers can be together again. Its a Semi-classical piece fused with Jazz music element.
3. Ishq Aap Vi Awalla - A Cover of Punjabi Folk song originally performed by artists at the Coke Studio Pakistan.
4. Kulli Raah Vich - Sufi Kalaam of Baba Bulleh Shah (a famous Sufi Poet). The Poet expresses the need to see his/her beloved and the sheer joy of that meeting.
5. Challa - A famous Punjabi Folk song performed with some of Rhythm Tolee's original renditions.
6. Gur Naalo Ishq Mithaa - Rhythm Tolee's Original Punjabi folk fusion inspired by Reggae music. Song represents a playful interaction of lovers or friends in different situations.
7. Duniyaa Mele Jaandi eh - A Cover of Punjabi folk song originally performed by a famous Punjabi artist Manmohan Waris. This Song represents a joyful scene of festivals in Punjab region and how two lovers are enjoying that moment together at a Festival (or "Mela", Punjabi word for a festival).
ARTIST BIOS:
Rhythm Tolee is an award-winning New York-based Punjabi band with members from Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Jersey City. “Tolee” means “a free spirited group of people” in Punjabi, and it’s the perfect descriptor for this joyful rhythm collective, which mixes Punjabi folk and Sufi music with hip beats and contemporary tunes.
The band members are as follows: Gurpreet Singh (vocals, music); Chetan Dadra (music, keyboards); Sidhartha Chauhan (guitar); Avish Arora (percussions, dhal); Sujoy Mukherjee (tabla); Rohit Batra (percussion); Nav Deep Matta (vocals, lyrics/music).
Aziz Peerzada, originally from Rawalpindi, came to the United States in 1987 for better life and to be closer to his family. Naturally talented and self taught, Aziz had already been performing on national television for almost eight years. In the US, he has been performing on various platforms ranging from family weddings to performances in embassies, and has performed in almost 25 states to date. His son, Saboor Aziz, now 11 years old, is a naturally talented tabla player and has been performing alongside his father for couple of years now. Along with singing, Aziz plays tabla and harmonium. His repertoire is versatile; although most of Aziz’s work is classical-oriented and based on older renditions of ghazals, he also plays Punjabi folk songs with equal ease and talent. Aziz Peerzada has also been involved in promoting Pakistani culture and heritage in New York. Besides being personally involved in managing Brooklyn Mela for years, his organization Pakistan Music and Culture Association had been active in organizing cultural events in schools to promote Pakistani music in the 90s.

INTRODUCTION: Brooklyn Arts Council’s Folk Arts programs is pleased to present tonight’s artists in partnership with BAM Café Live. Our Folk Arts programs recognizes the use of traditional music as a basis for contemporary, hybrid styles, which are very popular among young Brooklyn musicians today. Tonight’s music will explore the use of folk expression and highlight the dynamic traditional art forms alive and well in Brooklyn. Aziz Peerzada and Saboor Aziz will play a variety of Semi-Classical, Ghazal, Folk, and Sufi songs. These songs represent music and language from the Sindh, Baluchistan, Punjab, and Sarhad (or Frontier) provinces of Pakistan. Pakistan has 4 states and I will be singing a different style of song from every state. Here's a list of the songs and a few words on them.
1. "Chitta chowla": this is a popular saraiki folk song and is usually sung in the mountain area of Pakistan
2. "Bun ke mera parvana": this is a pashto folk style happy song
3. "Mor tho tillay rana": this is a very popular sindhi song
4. "Punjabi Mahiya": this song is usually sung at punjabi weddings
5. "Dhamal(dama dum mast kalandar)": this is a very popular sufi song especially in Pakistan and India
9:45pm—10:15pm
Rhythm Tolee will play a mix of original songs and their own versions of Sufi and folk music with Jazz and Reggae influences.
1. Chaap Tilak - A Sufi Poem by Amir Khusro. The poet expresses love and devotion towards his/her beloved.
2. Yaadan - Rhythm Tolee Original song. Written by Nav Deep, song is about memories and longing for the moment when lovers can be together again. Its a Semi-classical piece fused with Jazz music element.
3. Ishq Aap Vi Awalla - A Cover of Punjabi Folk song originally performed by artists at the Coke Studio Pakistan.
4. Kulli Raah Vich - Sufi Kalaam of Baba Bulleh Shah (a famous Sufi Poet). The Poet expresses the need to see his/her beloved and the sheer joy of that meeting.
5. Challa - A famous Punjabi Folk song performed with some of Rhythm Tolee's original renditions.
6. Gur Naalo Ishq Mithaa - Rhythm Tolee's Original Punjabi folk fusion inspired by Reggae music. Song represents a playful interaction of lovers or friends in different situations.
7. Duniyaa Mele Jaandi eh - A Cover of Punjabi folk song originally performed by a famous Punjabi artist Manmohan Waris. This Song represents a joyful scene of festivals in Punjab region and how two lovers are enjoying that moment together at a Festival (or "Mela", Punjabi word for a festival).
ARTIST BIOS:
Rhythm Tolee is an award-winning New York-based Punjabi band with members from Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Jersey City. “Tolee” means “a free spirited group of people” in Punjabi, and it’s the perfect descriptor for this joyful rhythm collective, which mixes Punjabi folk and Sufi music with hip beats and contemporary tunes.
The band members are as follows: Gurpreet Singh (vocals, music); Chetan Dadra (music, keyboards); Sidhartha Chauhan (guitar); Avish Arora (percussions, dhal); Sujoy Mukherjee (tabla); Rohit Batra (percussion); Nav Deep Matta (vocals, lyrics/music).
Aziz Peerzada, originally from Rawalpindi, came to the United States in 1987 for better life and to be closer to his family. Naturally talented and self taught, Aziz had already been performing on national television for almost eight years. In the US, he has been performing on various platforms ranging from family weddings to performances in embassies, and has performed in almost 25 states to date. His son, Saboor Aziz, now 11 years old, is a naturally talented tabla player and has been performing alongside his father for couple of years now. Along with singing, Aziz plays tabla and harmonium. His repertoire is versatile; although most of Aziz’s work is classical-oriented and based on older renditions of ghazals, he also plays Punjabi folk songs with equal ease and talent. Aziz Peerzada has also been involved in promoting Pakistani culture and heritage in New York. Besides being personally involved in managing Brooklyn Mela for years, his organization Pakistan Music and Culture Association had been active in organizing cultural events in schools to promote Pakistani music in the 90s.
