When a red-headed woman meets a red-headed man!
They put the treasure deep inside us
Inside us, inside us
They thought the desert would divide us
Divide us, divide us
With silence
They filled our hearts and hands with violence
With violence, with violence
It's time to leave the fields behind us
Behind us, behind us
As a child I hid between the pages
Cutting secret phrases overhead
But things we turn our back on when we're older
Only drag us back into our bed
Something's turning over
You'd better get out while you can
Something's turning over
Angels setting fire to the ocean
Pirates making liars out of men
No, I don't think we'll ever see their faces
I don't think we'll ever see the end
Something's turning over
You'd better get out while you can
Something's turning over
Get out while you're young
Every now and then I feel them breathing
Moving through the rooms so quietly
And just because you never hear their voices
Don't mean they won't kill you in your sleep
You'll take it back
Glory and failure
You'll take it back
Pure and unpunctured
Standby
You'll take it back
You'll bring home the frame
You'll take it back
And weed through the black
Standby
was a child
I was on fire
But I stayed alive
While all else died
I held my breath
What could I say
And I closed my eyes
Like Marvin Gaye
But now I've had enough
It's in the drugs
It's in the drugs
It's in the drugs, ahhh
It's in the drugs
You had your plan
A heavy hand
But the weight was more
Than you could stand
Breaking like dolls
Singing like birds
We always get
What we deserve
But now I've had enough
It's in the drugs
It's in the drugs
It's in the drugs, ahhh
It's in the drugs
I started a joke which started the whole world crying
But I didn't see that the joke was on me oh no
I started to cry which started the whole world laughing
Oh If I'd only seen that the joke was on me
I looked at the skies running my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed hurting my head from things that I
said
'Till I finally died which started the whole world living
Oh If I'd only seen that the joke was on me
I looked at the skies running my hands over my eyes
And I fell out of bed hurting my head from things that I
said
'Till I finally died which started the whole world living
Oh If I'd only seen that the joke was on me
If you see my daughter
Don't tell her I'm scared
Forty days without water
Feel my hands on her hair
I fear.
I never thought you took me seriously
I never thought you'd be the one to turn me in
I thought you saw me on the roof
We'll call it Starfire, who will know?
I want a station of my own
I have the tools, I have my rule
I'll load the back and you can drive
Broken bodies all the time
Let's take a ride, Starfire tonight
On our way from Stockholm started to snow
And you said it was like Christmas
But you were wrong
It wasn't like Christmas at all
By the time we got to Oslo snow was gone
And we got lost
The beds were small but we felt so young
It was just like Christmas
It was just like Christmas
It was just like Christmas
It was just like Christmas
It was just like Christmas
It was just like Christmas
Joan of Arc
Will never save you now
But then Joan of Arc
Never promised much
She never knew your name, love
She never knew your name
O-oh
Such a precious hand
Such a guilty hand
O-oh
Joan of Arc
Will never save you now
But then Joan of Arc
Never promised much
Joan of Arc
Will never save you now
But then Joan of Arc
Never promised much
Tell me is the time as slow
Only when your eyes are closed
Do we stand to waste some more?
Am I still immune?
Am I naked too?
Does it taste like home?
Only when your eyes are closed
Have you been away too long?
Am I still immune?
Am I naked too?
Am I naked too?
Tell me is the time as slow
Only when your eyes are closed?
Is the point to stay too long?
Am I still immune?
Am I naked too?
Am I naked too?
If you were born today
We'd kill ya by age eight
Never get the chance to say:
Joy to the world and
Peace on the earth
Forgive them for they know not what they do
Blessed are the meek and
Blessed are the humble
Blessed are the ninety and nine
Deny the flesh
Deny all that's evil
Tonight you'll deny me thrice
If you were born today
We'd kill ya by age eight
Never get the chance to say...
Home, everybody wants to go home
Even when they're old
Even when they're small
Home, everybody wants to go home
Even when they're old
Even when they're small
Home
Home
Home
You’ll be my Charlie
And can be your George
Let’s bury the hatchet
Like the Beatles and the Stones
They’ll play our songs forever
On the radio
Let’s bury the hatchet
Like the Beatles
The Beatles and the Stones
I know you got a thing
For ordinary guys
But I’ve heard your records
And they sound a lot like mine
So you’ll be my Mary-Ann
And I’ll be your Yoko
Let’s bury the hatchet
Like the Beatles
The Beatles and the Stones
Like the Beatles
To my mouth
Frozen shut
Mother's son
Paper cut
Belarus
Belarus
Belarus
Belarus
Pressing wine
Brighter sun
Black and white
Fading on
Belarus
Belarus
Belarus
And the light, it burns your skin
In a language you don't understand
It's not that hard
It is not that hard
That's not all
Voices small
Heed them either way they call
Two-step around the room
Kneel down on white
Two-step around the room
Kneel down on white
Two-step around the room
You can kneel down on white
Two-step around the room
You can kneel down on white
That's not all
Voices small
Heed them either way they call
And the light, it burns your skin
You try to sleep
'cause there's never enough
You try to sleep
But then you never wake up
Inside the dream
You take a step
You come to see
To see your debt
Try to sleep
Don't look at the camera
Try to sleep
You stretch your wings
You take a breath
You hide your feet
Embrace your head
A tragedy
No, there's never enough
You try to sleep
But then you never wake up
Try to sleep
Don't look at the camera
Try to sleep
Caroline, we don't have much time
Mercy lies in the one you hide
Caroline, we don't have much time
Mercy lies in the ones we hide
You don't need to be outside
Soon it will be over
I laughed under my breath over your shoulder
There's a message out tonight
Nobody's looking at the sky
Soon it will be over
I laughed under my breath, over your shoulder
You think that I don't know your name
And now your face is all in flames
You think that I don't know your name
I can't decide and I can't hide
Make up my mind it's a waste of time
Here comes the knife
You better just stand back
I could turn on you so fast
It's a hit its got soul
Steal the show with your rock n' roll
With a swing like that you better just stand back
I could turn on you so fast
Just like diamonds in your hand
I'll just cut you in the end
One more step and I'll slit your neck
You'll get use to it you better just stand back
I could turn on you so fast
I could turn on you so fast
I could turn on you so fast
Just like diamonds in your hand
I could turn on you so fast
I just cut you in the end
Wait it's late we've missed the date
Gone I guess with the rest
They'll never wake us in time
They'll never wake us in time
Maybe we'll wait 'til July
Now at last I hear them pass
Gone I guess with the rest
They'll never wake us in time
They'll never wake us in time
Maybe we'll wait 'til July
Then August
September
October
November
I verified the math
And double-checked the syntax
I tried to heal your body
But it just kept coming back
You never had a chance
I thought I was a poet
I had so much to say
But now I want to see the blood
I want to make them pay
Yeah, I can see the day
I made a place for children
They wanted all the answers
I gave them all my lectures
And now they're perfect dancers
'Cause I'm a perfect dancer
Sha la la la la
You swallowed your tongue
Now you've had your fill
They said you did nothing
Because you stood still
Your wet ragged wings
And cold tiny hands
Will never be able
To count all that sand
They said you were sick
Yeah, you're mighty ill
They said you did nothing
Filling holes with tiny sounds
Shiny from the inside out
Picture of you where it began
In metal
In metal
Partly hate to see you grow
And just like your baby shoes
Wish i could keep your little body
In metal
In metal
In metal
In metal
In metal
Candy girl, you sing that song so well
Candy girl, you try to stand so still
Wasting all our days with Gillian and Dave
Candy girl, candy girl, candy girl
I'll have a blue blue Christmas without you
I'll be so blue just thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won't mean a thing if you're not here with me
I'll have a blue Christmas that's certain
And when that blue heartaches starts hurting
You'll be doing alright with your Christmas of white
But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas
You'll be doing alright with your Christmas of white
Pour yourself another cup
Another cup, another cup
And wait, I can't wait forever
Live your life
A stupid life, a stupid life, a stupid life
It's a game, nobody does it better
Breaking everybody's heart
Taking everyone apart
Breaking everybody's heart
Singing everybody's song
All your dreams are waking up
Are waking up, are waking up
In space, you can't sleep forever
Every day you torture us
You torture us, you torture us
And say, ?Nothing stays together?
Breaking everybody's heart
Taking everyone apart
Breaking everybody's heart
Singing everybody's song
[Incomprehensible]
The angry son
The angry one
Breaking everybody's heart
Taking everyone apart
Breaking everybody's heart
Holding my head
For the last of race
Pushing my body
To get that embrace
It won't last
Hold on fast
It won't last
Hold on fast
Breathing in time
So hard to trace
Crushing your skull
With my warming embrace
It won't last
Hold on fast
It won't last
Hold on fast
I fell down the stairs
I wished I were dead
You ran for the light
He handed me your head
It won't last
It won't last
Hold on fast
It won't last
Cry me a river
So I can float over to you
The bearer to deliver the news
I'm over the moon
And underfoot
All these elixirs would be moot
'Cause if we knew where we belong
There'd be no doubt where we're from
But as it stands, we don't have a clue
Especially me and probably you
You've fallen in a slumber
Just wake one more time
To miss or put asunder
Would be a crime
Some songs feel like butter
Some songs sound like cake
This little number is for your sake
'Cause if we knew where we belong
There'd be no doubt where we're from
But as it stands, we don't have a clue
Especially me and probably you
'Cause if we knew where we belong
There'd be no doubt where we're from
But as it stands, we all need the truth
Especially me and probably you
Dust on the window
Sun's darkened angle
Write your initials with mine
By this time tomorrow
I'll be just one day closer
One sunset further behind
In the morning I'll make up my mind
Always a whisper
Worthless and tender
Breaking my arm that won't heal
Lie like a shadow
Breath on my pillow
Won't let me keep what I steal
We took our pills
It changed the world
We had our fill
But when we realized
That we were dragonflies
We knew we had to try
To find a way to get more pills
Maybe you're right
Maybe you're right
Oh dragonfly
Your thousand eyes
What do they see?
The lights of history
Some things should never be
Why do we even try?
There's no such thing
As dragonfly pills
Maybe you're right
Maybe you're right
Oh dragonfly
I'm sorry but I can't hold on
It works much better if I let it drag me around
I'm sorry if I'm losing ground
It works much better if I let it drag me around
I guess the secret's out
Like a river flows
It's never over done
Out of control
I guess the secret's out
My simple goal
You'll be the one, too
Out of control
Out of my control
I guess the secret's out
Above me looking down
It's not supposed to be that way
Out of control
Left my lair
To the wind and the sand
With blood on my lips
And silver in hand
And I'm weary and stumbling
In the desert heat
Where raindrops
They burn up
Before they reach your cheek
And if you see my love
Carry the weight
And wait at the last
Bloodied my leg
And buried my fist
I don't understand
I don't understand
I send it away
Now it's back in my breast
And drag you to town
Treat you just like a son
Alone in my house
Did they teach you to run
I don't understand
I don't understand
One more dance
Before they take away the light
One more spin around the line
One more step
And then we'll turn and face the debt
So I took my guitar
And I threw down some chords
And some words I could sing without shame
And I soon had a song
I played it around
For some friends but they all said the same
They said music's for fools
You should go back to school
The future is prisms and math
So I did what they said
Now my children are fed
'Cause they pay me to do what I'm asked
I forgot all my songs
The words now are wrong
And I burned my guitar in a rage
But the fire came to rest
In your white velvet breast
One more dance
Before they take away the light
One more spin around the line
One more step
And then we'll turn and face the debt
Jesse's gone inside out
Someone brush her quiet mouth
Charity's friend she was I know
Fill her cup and leave her alone
Distance fails but it keeps her alive
Thinks that evil's on her side
Gets rid of things that don't matter
She used to let me cut her hair
Jesse's gone inside out
Hold me closer than that
Hold me closer than that
How'd we get here so fast?
Hold me closer than that
On a dark, raging sea
Ships lay sleeping beneath
Overhead, spinning past
Hold me closer than that
Things we lost in the fire
How'd we ever get by?
Words will never take back
Hold me closer than that
Hold me closer than that
Hold me closer than that
How'd we get here so fast?
You and your daughter
And your father flew airplanes
You and your sister
Can tell by the back of her hands
It was a dinosaur act, dinosaur act
Dinosaur act, dinosaur act
And after expenses
And pulling up fences no more airplanes
And putting your foot down
A nail shot up like a bright red snowflake
Just like a dinosaur act, dinosaur act
Dinosaur act, dinosaur act, dinosaur
And all through the dust
You feel that you must hear the strings of a dove
But it's a dinosaur act, dinosaur act
Before you speak
The words are plain to see
Upon your skin, they sing, they dance and spin
So what, pray tell
Will save you now?
Here comes that cold sunrise
And at the peak
We reach to cue the strings
They ring, so sweet, they lay in plain relief
So what, pray tell
Will save you now?
Here comes that cold sunrise
It was one of those days
Of salvation and loss
Just one of those days
When you weight for the worst
First they hold you for a ransom
Then they buy you for a song
Just one of those days
When you laugh at what you've done
How they ripped you from the pages
Oh you waited for the best
It was one of those days
I'm not scared of waking up
I'm not afraid of getting cut
'Cause you can't take that stuff to Canada
You can't take it anywhere
You could la, la, la, la, la
And you could lie to all your friends
But you can't take that stuff to Canada
You can't take it anywhere
I used to have a golden tongue
But now the words just feel like stones
'Cause you can't take that stuff to Canada
See your reflection in the mind
You keep your revelations wide
They knew just where to draw the line
You let them got you every time
Though it breaks your heart
We had to sell the farm
Back to California where it's warm
It fell around you like the stars
You picked up everything they dropped
And though it breaks you like a song
You had some secrets of your own
And though it breaks your heart
We had to sell the farm
Back to California where it's warm
It's warm, it's warm
And though it breaks your heart
We had to sell the farm
Nights were just too long
With all your children gone
Would it keep you strong?
If I said it with a song
Last night just north of Houston
Broadway so many people
Through your third story window
I see my favorite record store
Where is the laughter?
Where is the laughter?
Smiling, tasting the irony
Broadway so many people
Outside just round the corner
Letter and Bob Marley t-shirts
Where is the laughter?
Where is the laughter?
Baby, 10000 years ago
Broadway so many people
Sleeping down at the factory
Waiting and singing so softly
Where is the laughter?
Where is the laughter?
The garden of Eden
The voices of children
Once you felt alive
Present for a time
Those below you whore themselves
Those above you know
You're a friend of mine
Bound by chains and wires
Those below you whore themselves
Our bodies break
And the blood just spills and spills
But here we sit debating that
It's just a shame
My hand just kills and kills
There's gotta be an end to that
At times I see you, you silver rider
Sometimes your voice is not enough
Your face in windows, outside forever
Nobody dreamed you'd save the world
Nobody dreamed you'd save the world
Your march is over, the great destroyer
She passes through you like a knife
Oh take me with you, you silver rider
Sometimes your voice is not enough
They tell you come tomorrow
Nothing for you now
You listen so intently
And slide
Hearing only yourself
You wait for the truth
How can you get it
When all you do
