Raymond Scott (born Harry Warnow, September 10, 1908 – February 8, 1994) was an American composer, band leader, pianist, engineer, recording studio maverick, and electronic instrument inventor.
Although Scott never scored cartoon soundtracks, his music is familiar to millions because of its adaptation by Carl Stalling in over 120 classic Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck and other Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies animated shorts. Scott's melodies may also be heard in contemporary shows like Ren and Stimpy (which use the original Scott recordings in twelve episodes), The Simpsons, Duckman, Animaniacs, The Oblongs, and Batfink. The only music Scott actually composed to accompany animation were three 20-second electronic commercial jingles for County Fair Bread in 1962.
Scott was born in Brooklyn, New York to Russian Jewish immigrants, Joseph and Sarah Warnow. His older brother, Mark Warnow, a conductor, violinist, and musical director for the CBS radio program Your Hit Parade, encouraged his musical career.
Scott may refer to:
Raymond is a male given name. It was borrowed into English from French (older French spellings were Reimund and Raimund, whereas the modern English and French spellings are identical). It originated as the Germanic Raginmund or Reginmund. "Ragin" (Old German) and "regin" (Gothic) meant "counsel." The Old High German "mund" originally meant "hand," but came to mean "protection." This etymology suggests that the name originated in the Early Middle Ages, possibly from Latin; meaning "King of the World".
Despite the German and French origins of the English name, some of its early uses in English documents appear in Latinized form. As a surname, its first recorded appearance in Britain appeared in 1086, during the reign of William the Conqueror, in the Domesday Book, with a reference to Giraldus Reimundus.
The most commonly used names for baby boys based on "ragin" in 2009 were, in descending order, Raymond, Ramiro, Rayner, Rein, Reingard, Reynard, and Reynold. Its many other variants include Raiment, Raimo, Raimond, Raimondi, Raimondo, Raimund, Raimundo, Ramon, Ramón, Ramond, Ramondelli, Ramondenc, Ramondi, Ramondini, Ramondino, Ramondo, Ramondou, Ramonenc, Ramonic, Ramundi, Rayment, Raymonenc, Raymonencq, Raymont, Raymund, Redmond, Redmonds, Reim, Reimund, Reinmund, Rémon, Rémond, Remondeau, Remondon, Rémont, Reymond, Rimondi, and Rimondini.
A hit parade is a ranked list of the most popular recordings at a given point in time, usually determined by sales and/or airplay. The term originated in the 1930s; Billboard magazine published its first music hit parade on January 4, 1936. It has also been used by broadcast programs which featured hit (sheet music and record) tunes such as Your Hit Parade, which aired on radio and television in the United States from 1935 through the 1950s.
Hit tunes were originally published in sheet music format, so many artists were encouraged to introduce or promote the tune in different styles, formats or areas of popularity. Up through the late 1940s, the term hit parade referred to a list of compositions, not a list of records. In those times, when a tune became a hit, it was typically recorded by several different artists. Each record company often promoted its own product through the airtime it purchased on commercial stations, as in Europe's Radio Luxembourg. Most non-commercial stations, like the BBC, were required by national regulations to promote local talent, and were also limited in the amount of needle time given to recorded popular music.

The regular orchestra leader on TV's 1950 classic live show, Your Hit Parade, was one of the show's star's husband! Dorothy Collins was married to Raymond Scott, and appeared on Hit Parade every Saturday night with Gisele MacKenzie, Snooky Lanson, Russell Arms and Ray Charles (singers). Raymond is seen in an April 16, 1955 on camera performance with his quintette performing his composition Powerhouse. Not long after Hit Parade left the airwaves, Dorothy and Raymond were divorced amid rumors that Scott let his perfectionism get in the way of the marriage.

Raymond Scott - (1963) Soothing Sounds For Baby Vol. 1 (0 - 6 Months)
On the flip of Scott's more well-known "Huckleberry Duck" was this lively performance of the 1931 ballad hit. Having previously gained a following via his popular quirky Raymond Scott Quintette recordings (which he termed "descriptive jazz"), Scott in 1939 expanded his group into this larger swing/dance band, billed as his New Orchestra and by which this was the first disc that was released by Columbia. Ten years later, Scott (real name Harry Warnow) would begin an eight-year run as orchestra leader for "Your Hit Parade," replacing his deceased older brother Mark Warnow. Transferred from the original 78rpm: Columbia 35363 - Just A Gigolo (Caesar-Casucci) by Raymond Scott and his New Orchestra, recorded October 18, 1939 MusicProf78 on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Musicprof78/...

The following video contains miscellaneous bumpers from Cartoon Network's Powerhouse Era which ran from Wednesday, July 16th, 1997 until the wee hours of Monday, June 14th, 2004 at which point the era ended and the CGI City Era took over and became the third era in Cartoon Network's lengthy history. It was during this time that the classics started airing less, and less as the new original shows took over. However, they were still being broadcast quite regularly for the audiences to see. The name 'Powerhouse' comes from the fact that Raymond Scott's composition 'Powerhouse' was used in the background of many bumpers until March 2003, when generic themes and themes from various shows were used instead. This was also the era in which Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater, and Cartoon Cartoon Fri...

This rough footage was shot by me, Jeff E. Winner, while Stan Warnow (Raymond Scott's son) and I interviewed movie music maestro John Williams. Stan used a professional camera, and some of Stan's footage appears in the new feature-length, award-winning documentary film, "DECONSTRUCTING DAD" (http://ScottDoc.com), but this segment has never been seen before. We conducted this interview at Tanglewood, in Massachusetts, on August 4th of 2008. From Wiki: John Williams was born on February 8, 1932 in Long Island, New York, the son of Esther and John Williams, Sr. His father was a jazz percussionist who played with the Raymond Scott Quintette. John Towner Williams is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career spanning almost six decades, he has composed some of the most recogniz...
