Patiala House

Coordinates: 28°36′55″N 77°14′05″E / 28.615341°N 77.234737°E / 28.615341; 77.234737 The Patiala House is the former residence of the Maharaja of Patiala in Delhi. It is situated near India Gate in central Delhi, India.

History

It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The building has a central dome with a "butterfly" layout, similar to other Lutyen's buildings.

Unlike some of the princely residences in Delhi, the Patiala House is not clad in sandstone but painted white.

When prime minister Indira Gandhi abolished the privy purses of the royals in the 1970s, the royal family sold it to the Indian government.

It has been used by District Courts of India as one of its five courts in Delhi and is known as the Patiala House Courts Complex, which has seen numerous extensions and changes that have altered the original appearance of the palace.

Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia (born 9 September 1967), better known by his stage name Akshay Kumar, is an Indian actor, producer and martial artist who has appeared in over a hundred Hindi films. He has been nominated for Filmfare Awards several times, winning it two times. Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma (pronounced [əˈnʊʂkaː ˈʃərmaː]; born 1 May 1988) is an Indian film actress and producer. She has established a career in Hindi cinema, and is one of the most popular actresses in India. She has received one Filmfare Award from six nominations.

Born in Ayodhya and raised in Bangalore, Sharma got her first break as a model for fashion designer Wendell Rodricks in 2007 and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in modelling. Following an audition at Yash Raj Films, she made her screen debut in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), for which she received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The sleeper hit Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) marked a turning point in her career, earning her praise and several accolades.

In 2012, Sharma won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for portraying a documentary filmmaker in the Yash Chopra romance Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Patiala

Patiala is a city in southeastern Punjab, in northern India. It is the fourth largest city in the state and is the administrative capital of Patiala district. Patiala is located around the Qila Mubarak (the Fortunate Castle). It was constructed by militiamen Sardar Lakhna and Baba Ala Singh in 1763.

Patiala is an Indian National Congress stronghold. In popular culture, the city remains famous for its traditional turban (a type of headgear), paranda (a tasselled tag for braiding hair), patiala salwar (a type of female trousers), jutti (a type of footwear) and Patiala peg (a measure of liquor).

The first Indian astronaut, Rakesh Sharma, was born in Patiala.

Geography

Patiala is located at 30°19′N 76°24′E / 30.32°N 76.40°E / 30.32; 76.40. It has an average elevation of 250 metres (820 feet). During the short existence of PEPSU, Patiala served as its capital city. During the reign of Maharajas, Patiala state extended from Narnaul, Hissar in Haryana to Kandaghat and Chail in Himachal pradesh.

Shankar Mahadevan

Shankar Mahadevan (born 3 March 1967) is an award-winning composer and playback singer who is part of the Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy composing trio team for many Indian films. He is a four-time winner of the National Award: three times for Best Male Playback Singer and once for Best Music Director. Mahadevan founded the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, which provides online music lessons in Indian music for students worldwide. In 2015, he made his debut as an actor in the Marathi film Katyar Kaljat Ghusli, a film adaptation of a 1960 stage classic by the same name.

Early life

Mahadevan was born and raised in Chembur, a suburb of Mumbai, into a Tamil family from Palakkad, Kerala. He learned Hindustani classical and Carnatic music in childhood, and began playing the veena at age five. Mahadevan studied music under Shrinivas Khale, a Marathi composer, and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School (OLPS) in Chembur. He subsequently attended SIES College in Sion, completing his HSC. Mahadevan graduated in 1988 with a degree in computer science and software engineering from the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology in Navi Mumbai, affiliated to Mumbai University, and was a software engineer for Oracle. His wife Sangeeta is Maharashtrian and oldest son Siddharth Mahadevan, also a singer, made his debut on the 2013 Bhaag Milkha Bhaag song "Zinda". His youngest son, Shivam Mahadevan, also a singer made his debut in 2013 Dhoom 3 song Bande Hain Hum Uske. Mahadevan is fluent in Marathi, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu and English.
