The Renewable Energy Corporation (REC) is a solar power company with headquarters in Norway. REC produces silicon materials for photovoltaics (PV) applications and multicrystalline wafers, as well as solar cells and modules. REC's business activities are organized into three divisions: REC Silicon, REC Solar, and REC Wafer.
All of REC's solar cell and wafer production plants in Norway were shut down permanently in 2011 and 2012 due to weak market conditions and prospects of significant negative cash flow.
On 25 October 2013, the solar division was split from the company and listed as a new company, Rec Solar ASA. It is headquartered in Singapore while traded on Oslo Stock Exchange. The remaining silicon division will from 1 December 2013 be headquartered in Washington state.
The predecessor of today's company was established in 1996 under the name Fornybar Energi AS. Today's company is a result of a fusion in September 2000 between ScanWafer AS, SolEnergy AS and Fornybar Energi AS. In 2002 REC ScanCell started production of multicrystalline solar cells in Narvik for the sister company REC ScanModule in Glava, Arvika. REC Wafer was at the time the world's largest producer of multicrystalline wafers with factories in Glomfjord and at Herøya.

It’s not in the papers but a silent revolution is moving across the world. Renewable energy is becoming cheaper than from fossil fuels. It means that progressively the choice for wind and solar energy is no longer an ethical one but an economic one. And this will speed up the transfer to renewable energy. In countries like Brazil, Australia, Chile and parts of the United States people consider renewable energy because of financial reasons. The price of solar and wind energy will continue to drop and in more countries renewable energy will occur. A surprising newcomer on the market is Morocco, where the government expects that in 2020 more than 40 percent of the energy could come from solar energy. LIUZHOU, CHINA — The world’s first forest city, designed by Italian architect Stefano Boeri, is currently under construction in southern China. It is expected to be completed by 2020. The Forest City is located in the mountainous region north of city of Liuzhou. It will host 30,000 people and it has everything that a typical city provides, such as offices, houses, hotels, hospitals and schools. A total of 40,000 trees and almost one million plants from more than 100 species will be planted in building facades, parks and city streets. The trees and plants will absorb an estimated 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide and 57 tons of pollutants each year and produce 900 tons of oxygen in exchange.
