Australian Ninja Warrior has commemorated the life of a stuntman who died while filming a music video in Brisbane's CBD earlier this year.

Johann Ofner, 28, was fatally injured while filming an "Asian gangster" scene for a video for hip-hop group Bliss n Eso in January. He was struck in the chest by debris that became lodged inside a prop shotgun. Paramedics were unable to save him.

In the weeks prior to the accident, Ofner had successfully auditioned and filmed scenes for Australian Ninja Warrior.

Sunday night's program paid tribute to the fitness guru with an on-screen memorandum. However, a Channel Nine spokeswoman said Ofner's scenes were not  aired out of respect for his family.

The stuntman is survived by his partner and seven-year-old daughter.

"Production company Endemol Shine Australia and Channel Nine have decided to feature an on-screen in memoriam dedication to Johann Ofner rather than show his runs in the program," the spokeswoman said.

"We have been in close contact with his next of kin, who are supportive of this decision. We have the utmost respect for Johann and his involvement in Ninja Warrior, and we want to honour his memory in the most appropriate way."

Bliss n Eso held a tribute concert for Ofner in April, with all proceeds going towards a trust fund for his daughter.
