South Korea's key stock index closed at above the 2,000-point range on Tuesday, for the first time in five months.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 4.57 points to finish at 2001.38.
The tech-heavy secondary KOSDAQ market also climbed 3.83 points, ending at its highest level of 625.64 since June 2008.
Experts attributed the buoyant mood in the Seoul bourse largely to stimulus in the eurozone boosting investor sentiment. The stocks showed another higher opening today.

The volatility of Korea's benchmark KOSPI has hit its lowest level in a year despite concerns the Federal Reserve is set to raise rates.
According to Korea Exchange on Thursday, the KOSPI 200 Volatility index, or V-KOSPI 200 futures, stood at eleven-point-five-five as of May 27th,… the lowest since mid-May of last year.
The latest figure is unusually stable considering the current global economic conditions.
Last August, the index rose to 28-point-five-eight... following the Fed's first rate hike and China's economic slowdown.
As for possible reasons behind the trend, analysts point to possible influences of uncertainties, including a U.S. rate hike and Britain's potential exit from the European Union, have already been reflected on global markets.

Korea's main stock index, the KOSPI, closed at an all time high on Thursday of just over 2-thousand-2-hundred-41.
Despite political upheaval and tensions among South Korea's neighbors, the KOSPI has emerged as a hot spot recently -- one of the best-performing Asian indices... behind India, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Shares of the market heavyweight Samsung Electronics also hit a record high, up about 1-point-4 percent.
Financial markets have been helped by healthy exports and stronger-than-expected GDP figures for the first quarter.
The Korean won ended trading at about one-thousand-one-hundred-33 won against the U.S. dollar.

The percentage price change of Korea's benchmark Kospi has been stagnant for more than a month now.
As doubts over returns rise, there are worries the local market could fall into a long-term rut.
For details we turn to Kim Hye-sung
The monthly price change of Korea's Kospi index for May stood at around two percent, the lowest it has been in 23 years.
The monthly price change, which is also called stock volatility, indicates the degree of fluctuation, and some investors are calling the phenomenon of the Kospi being stuck between the 19-hundred and two-thousand level,..."Boxpi."
Since March, the Kospi moved more than one percent on just three trading days.
The daily trading value also dropped seventeen percent year-on-year.
Experts cite exporters' weakening competitiveness as the main reason.

"Traditional drivers of the local market -- electronics, semi-conductors, and shipbuilders -- have been losing momentum in recent years. New growth industries like cosmetics and biotech are not big enough to replace them so the Kospi is being weighed down."
External factors, such as low oil prices, a possible U.S. rate hike and the uncertainty over "Brexit" are also making investors jittery.
Amid growing internal and external uncertainties, more investors are looking to equity-linked securities, whose return is determined by the linked stock's price.
Hence, investors inject more money when the support line falls to 19-hundred, and pull out money when the resistance line nears two-thousand, reinforcing this so-called 'Boxpi" phenomenon.
As exports remain sluggish and interest rates low, the Boxpi phenomenon is likely to continue for the time being.

Korea's benchmark stock index, the KOSPI, has been hitting record highs this month,... and alongside that, a huge increase in the average total value of shares changing hands each day.
According to the Korea Exchange on Monday,... so far in May that figure stands at a daily average of five-point-nine billion U.S. dollars,... a whopping increase of 45 percent from the previous month.
And... it's the highest level in 22 months,... going back to July 2015.
Analysts attribute the surge in transactions to strong buying by foreign investors.

How bad is the situation?
Obviously, domestic investors' disappointment results from the lukewarm stock market performance.
But, that works vice-versa -- it's investors' disappointment acting to slow the trading market itself?
We know the concerns over this lukewarm stock market spans beyond individual level.
In the longer-term, it could very well become a national economic issues, couldn't it?

KOSPI
The Korea Composite Stock Price Index or KOSPI (코스피지수) is the index of all common stocks traded on the Stock Market Division—previously, Korea Stock Exchange—of the Korea Exchange. It is the representative stock market index of South Korea, like the Dow Jones Industrial Average or S&P 500 in the United States.
KOSPI was introduced in 1983 with the base value of 100 as of January 4, 1980. It is calculated based on market capitalization. As of 2007, KOSPI's daily volume is hundreds of millions of shares or (trillions of won).
History
KOSPI (한국종합주가지수 Hanguk jonghap juga jisu) was introduced in 1983, replacing Dow-style KCSPI (Korea Composite Stock Price Index).
For years, KOSPI moved below 1,000, peaking above 1,000 in April 1989, November 1994, and January 2000.
On June 17, 1998, KOSPI recorded its largest one-day percentage gain of 8.50% (23.81 points), recovering from the bottom of the Asian financial crisis.
On September 12, 2001, KOSPI had its largest one-day percentage drop of 12.02% (64.97 points) just after 9/11.

Arirang (TV network)
Arirang TV (Korean: 아리랑 TV; Arirang tibui) is an international English-language network based in Seoul, South Korea operated by the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation. The channel presents programs (including cultural features, documentaries and language programs) designed to give viewers a contemporary, accurate look at Korea, Asia and the world. The network's name, "Arirang", is derived from the traditional Korean folk song of the same name. Programming is available on the Arirang website, on YouTube, and on some TV providers.
The channel receives government subsidies; in 2011 these amounted to 30 billion won.
A related production, Arirang Radio, also broadcasts English-language content internationally.
Programming
Founded in 1996, the network airs news, cultural programs, educational shows and documentaries.

Since March, the Kospi moved more than one percent on just three trading days.
The daily trading value also dropped seventeen percent year-on-year.

"Traditional drivers of the local market -- electronics, semi-conductors, and shipbuilders -- have been losing momentum in recent years. New growth industries like cosmetics and biotech are not big enough to replace them so the Kospi is being weighed down."
External factors, such as low oil prices, a possible U.S. rate hike and the uncertainty over "Brexit" are also making investors jittery.
Amid growing internal and external uncertainties, more investors are looking to equity-linked securities, whose return is determined by the linked stock's price.
Hence, investors inject more money when the support line falls to 19-hundred, and pull out money when the resistance line nears two-thousand, reinforcing this so-called 'Boxpi" phenomenon.

Korea's benchmark stock index, the KOSPI, has been hitting record highs this month,... and alongside that, a huge increase in the average total value of shares changing hands each day.
According to the Korea Exchange on Monday,... so far in May that figure stands at a daily average of five-point-nine billion U.S. dollars,... a whopping increase of 45 percent from the previous month.
And... it's the highest level in 22 months,... going back to July 2015.
Analysts attribute the surge in transactions to strong buying by foreign investors.

Samsung Electronics touched an intra-day record high, ending the session up 1-point-8 percent... after it announced billions of dollars of share buybacks and on a positive earnings outlook.

Despite political upheaval and tensions among South Korea's neighbors, the KOSPI has emerged as a hot spot recently -- one of the best-performing Asian indices... behind India, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The percentage price change of Korea's benchmark Kospi has been stagnant for more than a month now.
As doubts over returns rise, there are worries the local market could fall into a long-term rut.

The monthly price change of Korea's Kospi index for May stood at around two percent, the lowest it has been in 23 years.
The monthly price change, which is also called stock volatility, indicates the degree of fluctuation, and some investors are calling the phenomenon of the Kospi being stuck between the 19-hundred and two-thousand level,..."Boxpi."
Since March, the Kospi moved more than one percent on just three trading days.
The daily trading value also dropped seventeen percent year-on-year.
Experts cite exporters' weakening competitiveness as the main reason.

"Traditional drivers of the local market -- electronics, semi-conductors, and shipbuilders -- have been losing momentum in recent years. New growth industries like cosmetics and biotech are not big enough to replace them so the Kospi is being weighed down."
External factors, such as low oil prices, a possible U.S. rate hike and the uncertainty over "Brexit" are also making investors jittery.
Amid growing internal and external uncertainties, more investors are looking to equity-linked securities, whose return is determined by the linked stock's price.
Hence, investors inject more money when the support line falls to 19-hundred, and pull out money when the resistance line nears two-thousand, reinforcing this so-called 'Boxpi" phenomenon.
As exports remain sluggish and interest rates low, the Boxpi phenomenon is likely to continue for the time being.

According to the Korea Exchange on Monday,... so far in May that figure stands at a daily average of five-point-nine billion U.S. dollars,... a whopping increase of 45 percent from the previous month.
