A Managing Editor is a senior member of a publication's management team. The Managing Editor (ME) reports directly to the Editor in Chief and oversees all aspects of the publication.
In the United States, a Managing Editor oversees and coordinates the publication's editorial activities. The Managing Editor can hire, fire, or promote staff members. Other responsibilities include creating and enforcing deadlines. Most Section Editors will report to the Managing Editor. The ME must enforce policies set by the Editor In Chief. It is their job to approve stories for print or final copy. On matters of controversy, the ME decides whether or not to run controversial pieces.
In the United Kingdom a Managing Editor tends to manage budget, staffing, and scheduling for a publication, and may have equivalent ranking to a Deputy Editor in the organization's structure.
The title also applies to the evening televised newscasts, such as those on ABC, CNN, CBS, NBC, PBS, and the FOX News Channel. The anchors of these newscasts also work as the Managing editor of their newscasts. Responsibilities vary in different companies.
Senior may refer to:
Jonathan Larson (February 4, 1960 – January 25, 1996) was an American composer and playwright noted for exploring the social issues of multiculturalism, addiction, and homophobia in his work. He is most known for his popular Broadway show Rent, for which he won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. He also received three posthumous Tony Awards.
Larson was born to Jewish parents, Allan and Nanette Larson, in White Plains, New York. He was exposed to the performing arts, especially music and theatre, from an early age, as he played the trumpet, tuba, sang in his school's choir, and took formal piano lessons. His early musical influences were his favorite rock musicians such as Elton John, The Beatles, The Doors, The Who, and Billy Joel, as well as the classic composers of musical theatre, especially Stephen Sondheim. Larson was also involved in acting in high school, performing in lead roles in various productions at White Plains High School.
Larson attended Adelphi University in Garden City, New York with a four-year scholarship as an acting Academic major, in addition to performing in numerous plays and musical theatre. During his college years, he began music composition, composing music first for small student productions, called cabarets, and later the score to a musical entitled Libro de Buen Amor, written by the department head, Jacques Burdick. Burdick functioned as Larson's mentor during his college education. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Larson participated in a summer stock theatre program at The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan as a piano player, which resulted in his earning an Equity Card for membership in the Actors' Equity Association.
Microsoft Photo Editor is an image-editing application found in Microsoft Office 97–XP versions for Windows, classified as one of Microsoft Office Tools. It has been replaced by Microsoft Office Picture Manager, although many Photo Editor features are not available in Picture Manager.
The program was a tool for doing raster graphics with editing tools to texturize, negative, adjust gamma, make GIF transparency and many others. It was based on HALO Desktop Imager by Media Cybernetics, L.P.
Early versions of Microsoft Photo Editor, including the version bundled with Office 2000, erased metadata from digital camera JPEG images during saves. The Office 2000 version also, when saving BMP files, sets the resolution metadata to 0 by 0, regardless of what resolution (DPI) is set through the program UI.
Version 3.0.2.3 and earlier had a 10 MP (megapixel) image (resolution) size limit, but not image file size limit. Large Windows bitmap BMP files can be opened in Microsoft Photo Editor 3.0.2.3, as well as, e.g. a 4000 x 2578-pixel, 15-MB *.JPG image.
The overview effect is a cognitive shift in awareness reported by some astronauts and cosmonauts during spaceflight, often while viewing the Earth from orbit or from the lunar surface.
It refers to the experience of seeing firsthand the reality of the Earth in space, which is immediately understood to be a tiny, fragile ball of life, "hanging in the void", shielded and nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. From space, national boundaries vanish, the conflicts that divide people become less important, and the need to create a planetary society with the united will to protect this "pale blue dot" becomes both obvious and imperative.
Third-hand observers of these individuals may also report a noticeable difference in attitude. Astronauts Rusty Schweikart,Edgar Mitchell,Tom Jones,Chris Hadfield and Mike Massimino are all reported to have experienced the effect.
The term and concept were coined in 1987 by Frank White, who explored the theme in his book The Overview Effect — Space Exploration and Human Evolution (Houghton-Mifflin, 1987), (AIAA, 1998). The overview effect has been considered to be one of the stimuli that led to the Gaia hypothesis.

These areas include how energy and the falling EROI – Energy Returned On Invested – stand to impact the mining industry, precious metals, paper assets, and the overall economy. Steve considers studying the impacts of EROI one of the most important aspects of his energy research. For the past several years, he has written scholarly articles in some of the top precious metals and financial websites. You...
