The Philippines (i/ˈfɪlᵻpiːnz/; Filipino: Pilipinas [ˌpɪlɪˈpinɐs]), officially known as the Republic of the Philippines (Filipino: Republika ng Pilipinas), is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia situated in the western Pacific Ocean. It consists of about 7,500 islands that are categorized broadly under three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city of the Philippines is Manila and the most populous city is Quezon City; both are part of Metro Manila.
To the north of the Philippines across the Luzon Strait lies Taiwan; Vietnam sits west across the South China Sea; southwest lies Malaysia in the island of Borneo across the Sulu Sea, and to the south the Celebes Sea separates it from other islands of Indonesia; while to the east it is bounded by the Philippine Sea and the island-nation of Palau. Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and close to the equator makes the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons, but also endows it with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity. At approximately 300,000 square kilometers (115,831 sq mi), the Philippines is the 72nd-largest country in the world.

A brief documentary about Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. Every year, more than 5.5 million tourists take their vacations in the Philippines, and often Manila is their very first stop. Nearly 16 million people live in the Metro Manila area, which is made up of many smaller cities, including Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Paranaque, Mandaluyong, Quezon City, and more. Manila is where big business takes place, where major investments are made, and where residential and commercial real estate is never-ending. Many tourists enjoy the malls, the restaurants, the museums, the nightlife, and even the beautiful Manila Bay. Probably, the biggest tourist attraction is the SM Mall of Asia - the 3rd largest mall in the world. For more details about Manila or the Philippines in general, visit ...

Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. How to behave in social situations in Manila. Here are a few customs and etiquette to be aware of during your visit to the Phillipines. Filipinos value honor. The concept of hiya or shame requires one to behave in a manner that will not shame the person or the family. Handshake is common when meeting someone. If elders are present, acknowledge them first. Address people formally indicating their profession or using their last names. In discussions Filipinos tend to be non-confrontational. People will not directly say no. In making appointments, Filipinos tend to be more forgiving. If you arrive 15 to 20 minutes late, unless you are attending a business function. If you ever receive a gift, open it afterwards, not in front of the person who gave it to you. When it comes to tipping, 10 pe...

It was my first time going back to the Philippines after 17 yrs. I didn't know exactly how to feel at first, but I ended up having such a wonderful time getting to know the country all over again, and spending time with my relatives. I spent the first half of the trip in Sta. Cruz, Laguna where my mother was born and raised, and the other half in Manila. I felt extremely grateful to get to know both places on a deeper level, and felt quite emotional when I left each place. I will be back again to explore more and experience what this beautiful country has to offer! This trip was completely unplanned, so I didn't really get to do anything epic in just 2 weeks. It was mainly just an opportunity for me to get over my fear of being back in Asia (I know...I was pathetic!), and see some fa...

If you don't know what you're doing, it's easy to get ripped off by taking the wrong taxi at NAIA in Manila, Philippines. When you arrive at Terminal 3 and come out the doors, you'll be asked where you are going. Do NOT talk to these people. They are working for the "coupon taxi" companies. These taxis are white and overcharge by three to five times what a regular airport taxi costs! By walking just a few steps, you can get a yellow metered taxi and pay up to 80% less (paying $4 USD instead of $20)! Watch the video to learn how easy it is to find the cheaper taxis and avoid the overcharging scam. -This video is not an Anti-Hispanic culture documentary and doesn't aim to abolished Hispanic/American culture in Philippines, I think it's important to remember that we need to appreciate every collective culture that history has throwned to the islands of the Philippines for it would be a monument of the richness of the country, to remind every Filipinos that many great nations with different cultures of the world have fought for it's richness but in the end it was taken back by the Filipino people, and the Filipino people alone. that way they can feel a sense of uniqueness amongst the other Asian cultures! i don't want this video to be misunderstood plus it could make Spain and America get away with everything they did while colonizing Philippines,if we don't resourcefully use the the ...

EXO's Concert was announced right after the Infinite Effect concert ended. When the lights went back on, the LCD screen flashed the concert announcement. I was 80% sure then that I won't go to the concert since I was sure the tickets would be sold out instantly. I just didn't want to try my luck anymore. And then, when PULP announced that they were making it a 2-Day concert, my mind somehow changed but I didn't know who to invite to watch with me. So again, I settled with the "NO". And then, 2 days before the concert, Andy from Shimmerjjang.com (a good friend of mine) asked me if I wanted to go with her to the concert. She said she recommended me to KitKat Philippines and that I'd be given complimentary passes!!! O.M.G! I was really excited!! Because I love you guys and I know you enjoy...

Like many of its Asian neighbors, the Philippines has been site of rapid economic growth over the past two decades. Following a period of martial law and strict control over rural provinces, peasants and farmers began moving to the nation's capital, Manila, in the 1980s looking for better lives. However, many of these people remained on the margins of both society and the city itself. As the population boomed, slums began cropping up. VICE Japan traveled to Manila in order to investigate conditions in one such slum inside Navotas Cemetery, where 6,000 men, women, and children currently live amid the graves and excavated human bones.
