UNICEF USA: Philippines Latest Images - Typhoon Yolanda 2013
In this video, UNICEF has aggregated images from the destruction caused by Super Typhoon Haiyan (local name Typhoon Yolanda) in the Philippines including photos from the cities of Tacloban, Leyte and Legazpi, Albay. Text RELIEF to 864233 to donate $10 or visit http://www.unicefusa.org/philippines Children who have escaped the terrible damage still need urgent assistance to survive the aftermath of the storm. The world as they knew it has been destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan and now the children of the Philippines need our help to survive. Particular concerns include health, due to the impact of the typhoon on water supply and sanitation systems. These children also need safe and protected spaces to be able to play and resume studying while adults work to recover their homes and livelihoods. "UNICEF is doing all it can to reach these children, as quickly as possible with critical supplies, to protect their health, safety and wellbeing in the difficult days ahead," said UNICEF Philippines Representative Tomoo Hozumi. UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any humanitarian organization in the world. UNICEF delivers lifesaving clean water, nutrition, immunizations, and healthcare in emergencies...but we need your help. Text RELIEF to 864233 to donate $10 or visit http://www.unicefusa.org/philippines Therapeutic food for children, health kits, water and hygiene kits to support up to 3,000 families in the affected areas have already been mobilized from supplies available in the country, with distribution prioritized for the Tacloban area as soon as access is possible. UNICEF's warehouse in Copenhagen, Denmark, is airlifting US$1.3 million worth of additional medical, hygiene and nutrition supplies for another 10,000 families, including those affected by the recent earthquake in Bohol. UNICEF is conducting a rapid assessment of the latest situation and is prepared with pre-identified partners and NGOs to spearhead the response. "Our utmost effort will be to help ensure that the vulnerable and affected children are protected," UNICEF Philippines Representative Tomoo Hozumi said. UNICEF's first priorities are focused on life-saving interventions -- getting essential medicines, nutrition, safe water and hygiene to children and families. You can help. UNICEF getting children back to school in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan
UNICEF getting children back to school in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan
Super Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated areas of the Philippines one month ago, is considered the world's largest storm to ever make landfall. In affected areas, about 90 per cent of school buildings were damaged -- more than 3,200 schools in all -- leaving over a million pupils and 34,000 teachers with no place for learning. Thanks to your donations, UNICEF is helping children in the Philippines get back to school. After the enormous shock experienced by tens of thousands of children, the return to learning will restore some sense of normalcy for them. Help UNICEF Ireland reach more children in emergencies with life-saving supplies and interventions by becoming a donor today bit.ly/18mThVh- published: 10 Dec 2013
