Taal Volcano is a complex volcano located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is the second most active volcano in the Philippines with 33 historical eruptions. All of these eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Taal Lake. The lake partially fills Taal Caldera, which was formed by prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 and 5,380 BP. Viewed from Tagaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano and Lake presents one of the most picturesque and attractive views in the Philippines. It is located about 50 km (31 mi) south of the capital of the country, the city of Manila.
The volcano had several violent eruptions in the past causing loss of life in the island and the populated areas surrounding the lake, with the death toll estimated at around 5,000 to 6,000. Because of its proximity to populated areas and its eruptive history, the volcano was designated a Decade Volcano, worthy of close study to prevent future natural disasters. All volcanoes of the Philippines are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Taal is the Dutch and Afrikaans word for language and was used as an early name for Afrikaans; it may also refer to the South African creole language Tsotsitaal.
The word Taal can also refer to:
A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface.
Earth's volcanoes occur because its crust is broken into 17 major, rigid tectonic plates that float on a hotter, softer layer in its mantle. Therefore, on Earth, volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging. For example, a mid-oceanic ridge, such as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, has volcanoes caused by divergent tectonic plates pulling apart; the Pacific Ring of Fire has volcanoes caused by convergent tectonic plates coming together. Volcanoes can also form where there is stretching and thinning of the crust's interior plates, e.g., in the East African Rift and the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field and Rio Grande Rift in North America. This type of volcanism falls under the umbrella of "plate hypothesis" volcanism. Volcanism away from plate boundaries has also been explained as mantle plumes. These so-called "hotspots", for example Hawaii, are postulated to arise from upwelling diapirs with magma from the core–mantle boundary, 3,000 km deep in the Earth. Volcanoes are usually not created where two tectonic plates slide past one another.
Once the biggest volcano in the world, now the Taal volcano is considered one of the smallest in the world, but deadliest. This ticking time bomb is sure to blow, but it doesn't hold back the millions of people from flocking to its scenic splendor. #amazingfacts #dougbatchelor #amazingfactsoffaith #afof #philippines
Taal Volcano is an island within a lake, on an island within a lake, on an island! Did you get that? :P Just an hour away from Manila, this geological wonder is the smallest active volcano in the world. But despite being famous and all, we found that most Filipinos have a hard time locating the actual Crater Lake itself--So we had to figure out the reason for ourselves. For my birthday this year, I decided to take the Taal Secret Trail Tour through Taal Lake Yacht Club (http://www.tlyc.com/the-tlyc-volcano-tour/) with family and friends. We were told it would be an easy hike for all of us beginners so we unanimously and confidently decided not to opt for the horse ride. Boy were we in for a challenge. Tip #1: Hike as early as you can so you don’t die of the heat! We left the resort 8:30am and started hiking at about 9:30 or 10am. We should have started at 6am! We ended up calling for the horses halfway through. I hope they stop cutting the trees. One reason we died of heat is that there were no trees or bushes we could hide under at the beginning of the hike. Tip #2: Bring a mask or a bandana especially for those asthmatics out there. They sell ma...

Lumampao is one of the places located in Barangay Don Juan, Cuenca, Batangas. Where in you need to experience the "1500 steps of concrete stairs" before experiencing the calm ambiance of Lumampao where you will able to swim at the Taal Lake and get up close to Taal Volcano. Enjoy the fresh fish like tawilis, bangus, tilapia, etc while doing the Lakeering (new word for Lake + Mountaineering). Additional to that is the warm welcome of the locals there and well known products of Batangas (kapeng barako, puto, kutchinta etc)
