The kuliglig is a great example of Filipino ingenuity: getting the job done by whatever means neccessary!
Kuligligs can be used to haul just about anything, and they're often piled high with cargo or packed full with passengers.
The Filipino people have devised many cheap ways to strap an engine to some tires and call it a vehicle. If you've ever seen the movie 'Mad Max', you can sometimes get a similar feeling!
These are probably inventions you didn’t know existed in the Philippines, inventions for transportation that would probably make you pray for whatever they are carrying. That is why it’s fun to travel in the Philippines, the actual traveling itself is part of the experience! You get to experience different modes of transportation, both safe and unsafe. Sometimes, you’ll be amazed by the invention ideas these people come up with, anything that can pass for a vehicle and carry something (peope or obejcts) are used to earn a living. Although, these traveling options are sometimes the only way of getting to a certain place, especially those with steep passages.

Even with all the 'sketchy' vehicle options, you'll still be getting around Manila largely in taxis. Here's a few tips to about getting ripped off by your taxi driver!
1. Never put your luggage or bags in the trunk. If you sit in the front of the car and get dropped off at your location, it's all too easy for a taxi driver to drive by you and make off with your stuff.
2. Make sure your driver turns on the meter. If your taxi driver refuses to turn on the meter then he is trying to rip you off!
3. Have Google Maps on your phone while driving if possible.

no crew traveled with us, it was just Oscar and me. we filmed this ourselves, with a tripod, using my personal cameras.
the whole story; i often get solicitations for work, all kinds of companies, people, organizations etc asking if i would be interested in making a video for them. i was really concerned after the typhoon, as anyone with a heartbeat was. left with the frustration and guilt i often feel when i learn of other people suffering, a guilt for not being able to help more. i had made donations but it's hard to see or feel the effects of ones contributions. a few days later i was contacted by 20th Century Fox, they wanted to know if i could make a promotional film to get the word out about Ben Stiller's great new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Mitty is a movie about chasing a dream and they wanted me to make a movie about chasing a dream. I am a big dreamer but at that time only one thing came to mind; if i could do anything in the world right now what would it be? that's to help the victims of the typhoon. i, someone crassly, replied to 20th Century Fox that the only movie i wanted to make is one where i give away the budget to those in need. i still don't understand how or why but they agreed. i jumped on a plane with my best friend and fellow adventurer Oscar and we flew to Manila. there was little time to think or plan before we left, actually we did zero planning before we left. my original thought was that we'd connect with an NGO already in place, a non-profit that's already doing a lot of good, and i'd simply hand them a check. but that turned out complicated and it sort of felt like the non-profits we contacted did not want to link up with us. so on a whim we decided to launch our very own relief mission. it was complicated and at first improbable but with the help of an extremely loving group of locals, all who were total strangers, we were able to stretch the production budget really far. beyond the food distributed in the video we also worked with a local nurse and purchased a lot of medicine and medical supplies, as well as providing tools to village leaders to be shared within the village and aid in the rebuilding process.
never have i met such people with the resilience of these typhoon victims. there was one thing that stuck out, one big huge tiny thing, that was; of everyone we were face to face with, thousands of people, not once, at anytime for any reason did anyone complain. no one. their focus was on rebuilding and healing, not sympathy.
big thank you to Fox and Ben Stiller for not freaking the fuck out when they saw what i did with their money.

Up to 80 Filipino children suffering from hair lips and cleft palates will get a chance of a normal appearance thanks to a team of American and Australian medical volunteers.
Operation Rainbow members work around the clock to get through as many operations as they can in six days.
The queues form as soon as the word is out that the team of Western surgeons is in town.
Parents and children flock to the hospital in the northern province of Tarlac in the Philippines.
Children line the corridors hoping for their chance of surgery on a cleft palate or hair lip.
They're all from poor families and this is their only hope of an operation which normally costs 4,000 U-S dollars.
Inside the operating theatre, American and Australian surgeons and their support teams struggle to meet demand, carrying out two operations at a time.
Each surgeon has a private practice back home. Each has volunteered to spend six days helping out in the Philippines as part of Operation Rainbow.

The biggest reward that keeps us coming back each year is the fact that we make a difference for the young people and the families for whom we do this. Its professionally rewarding from the technical standpoint, we get to use skills that we have in another setting and then we share that with people who have such need. It's a very exciting and heartwarming feeling to share this.

The Rainbow team put banners up but have little need to need to advertise.
They've been coming to the Philippines for ten years and their work has made a vital difference to those who need this expensive corrective surgery.
Still groggy from the anesthetic, the children are carried from the operating theatre and put to bed.
Ten-year-old Romeo is recovering from an operation that's fixed both his hair lip and his cleft palate.
His father is out of work and his parents could never have afforded even basic treatment.
Romeo's mother is grateful for the chance. Her son will benefit from today's surgery for the rest of his life.

But, the volunteers have their work cut out. They've vowed to work around the clock to pack in as many operations as they can.

Street children
Street children is a term for children experiencing homelessness who live on the streets of a city, town or village. help the children affected by typhoon Haiyan by giving to Unicef http://tinyurl.com/lt32ruk https://www.instagram.com/caseyneistat https://www.twitter.com/CaseyNeistat https://www.facebook.com/cneistat no crew traveled with us, it was just Oscar and me. we filmed this ourselves, with a tripod, using my personal cameras. the whole story; i often get solicitations for work, all kinds of companies, people, organizations etc asking if i would be interested in making a video for them. i was really concerned after the typhoon, as anyone with a heartbeat was. left with the frustration and guilt i often feel when i learn of other people suffering, a guilt for not being able to help more. i had made donations but it's hard to see or feel the effects of ones contributions. a few days later i was contacted by 20th Century Fox, they wanted to know if i could make a promotional film to get the word out about Ben Stiller's great new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Mitty is a movie about chasing a dream and they wanted me to make a movie about chasing a dream. I am a big dreamer but at that time only one thing came to mind; if i could do anything in the world right now what would it be? that's to help the victims of the typhoon. i, someone crassly, replied to 20th Century Fox that the only movie i wanted to make is one where i give away the budget to those in need. i still don't understand how or why but they agreed. i jumped on a plane with my best friend and fellow adventurer Oscar and we flew to Manila. there was little time to think or plan before we left, actually we did zero planning before we left. my original thought was that we'd connect with an NGO already in place, a non-profit that's already doing a lot of good, and i'd simply hand them a check. but that turned out complicated and it sort of felt like the non-profits we contacted did not want to link up with us. so on a whim we decided to launch our very own relief mission. it was complicated and at first improbable but with the help of an extremely loving group of locals, all who were total strangers, we were able to stretch the production budget really far. beyond the food distributed in the video we also worked with a local nurse and purchased a lot of medicine and medical supplies, as well as providing tools to village leaders to be shared within the village and aid in the rebuilding process. never have i met such people with the resilience of these typhoon victims. there was one thing that stuck out, one big huge tiny thing, that was; of everyone we were face to face with, thousands of people, not once, at anytime for any reason did anyone complain. no one. their focus was on rebuilding and healing, not sympathy. big thank you to Fox and Ben Stiller for not freaking the fuck out when they saw what i did with their money. -

Eng/Taga/Nat Up to 80 Filipino children suffering from hair lips and cleft palates will get a chance of a normal appearance thanks to a team of American and Australian medical volunteers. Operation Rainbow members work around the clock to get through as many operations as they can in six days. The queues form as soon as the word is out that the team of Western surgeons is in town. Parents and children flock to the hospital in the northern province of Tarlac in the Philippines. Children line the corridors hoping for their chance of surgery on a cleft palate or hair lip. They're all from poor families and this is their only hope of an operation which normally costs 4,000 U-S dollars. Inside the operating theatre, American and Australian surgeons and their support teams struggle to meet demand, carrying out two operations at a time. Each surgeon has a private practice back home. Each has volunteered to spend six days helping out in the Philippines as part of Operation Rainbow. SOUNDBITE: (English) The biggest reward that keeps us coming back each year is the fact that we make a difference for the young people and the families for whom we do this. Its professionally rewarding from the technical standpoint, we get to use skills that we have in another setting and then we share that with people who have such need. It's a very exciting and heartwarming feeling to share this. SUPER CAPTION: Dr. Michael Schafer, Team Leader, "Operation Rainbow." The Rainbow team put banners up but have little need to need to advertise. They've been coming to the Philippines for ten years and their work has made a vital difference to those who need this expensive corrective surgery. Still groggy from the anesthetic, the children are carried from the operating theatre and put to bed. Ten-year-old Romeo is recovering from an operation that's fixed both his hair lip and his cleft palate. His father is out of work and his parents could never have afforded even basic treatment. Romeo's mother is grateful for the chance. Her son will benefit from today's surgery for the rest of his life. Kuligligs can be used to haul just about anything, and they're often piled high with cargo or packed full with passengers.
The Filipino people have devised many cheap ways to strap an engine to some tires and call it a vehicle. If you've ever seen the movie 'Mad Max', you can sometimes get a similar feeling!
These are probably inventions you didn’t know existed in the Philippines, inventions for transportation that would probably make you pray for whatever they are carrying. That is why it’s fun to travel in the Philippines, the actual traveling itself is part of the experience! You get to experience different modes of transportation, both safe and unsafe. Sometimes, you’ll be amazed by the invention ideas these people come up with, anything that can pass for a vehicle and carry something (peope or obejcts) are used to earn a living. Although, these traveling options are sometimes the only way of getting to a certain place, especially those with steep passages.

Even with all the 'sketchy' vehicle options, you'll still be getting around Manila largely in taxis. Here's a few tips to about getting ripped off by your taxi driver!
1. Never put your luggage or bags in the trunk. If you sit in the front of the car and get dropped off at your location, it's all too easy for a taxi driver to drive by you and make off with your stuff.
2. Make sure your driver turns on the meter. If your taxi driver refuses to turn on the meter then he is trying to rip you off!
3. Have Google Maps on your phone while driving if possible.

no crew traveled with us, it was just Oscar and me. we filmed this ourselves, with a tripod, using my personal cameras.
the whole story; i often get solicitations for work, all kinds of companies, people, organizations etc asking if i would be interested in making a video for them. i was really concerned after the typhoon, as anyone with a heartbeat was. left with the frustration and guilt i often feel when i learn of other people suffering, a guilt for not being able to help more. i had made donations but it's hard to see or feel the effects of ones contributions. a few days later i was contacted by 20th Century Fox, they wanted to know if i could make a promotional film to get the word out about Ben Stiller's great new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Mitty is a movie about chasing a dream and they wanted me to make a movie about chasing a dream. I am a big dreamer but at that time only one thing came to mind; if i could do anything in the world right now what would it be? that's to help the victims of the typhoon. i, someone crassly, replied to 20th Century Fox that the only movie i wanted to make is one where i give away the budget to those in need. i still don't understand how or why but they agreed. i jumped on a plane with my best friend and fellow adventurer Oscar and we flew to Manila. there was little time to think or plan before we left, actually we did zero planning before we left. my original thought was that we'd connect with an NGO already in place, a non-profit that's already doing a lot of good, and i'd simply hand them a check. but that turned out complicated and it sort of felt like the non-profits we contacted did not want to link up with us. so on a whim we decided to launch our very own relief mission. it was complicated and at first improbable but with the help of an extremely loving group of locals, all who were total strangers, we were able to stretch the production budget really far. beyond the food distributed in the video we also worked with a local nurse and purchased a lot of medicine and medical supplies, as well as providing tools to village leaders to be shared within the village and aid in the rebuilding process.
never have i met such people with the resilience of these typhoon victims. there was one thing that stuck out, one big huge tiny thing, that was; of everyone we were face to face with, thousands of people, not once, at anytime for any reason did anyone complain. no one. their focus was on rebuilding and healing, not sympathy.
big thank you to Fox and Ben Stiller for not freaking the fuck out when they saw what i did with their money.

Up to 80 Filipino children suffering from hair lips and cleft palates will get a chance of a normal appearance thanks to a team of American and Australian medical volunteers.
Operation Rainbow members work around the clock to get through as many operations as they can in six days.
The queues form as soon as the word is out that the team of Western surgeons is in town.
Parents and children flock to the hospital in the northern province of Tarlac in the Philippines.
Children line the corridors hoping for their chance of surgery on a cleft palate or hair lip.
They're all from poor families and this is their only hope of an operation which normally costs 4,000 U-S dollars.
Inside the operating theatre, American and Australian surgeons and their support teams struggle to meet demand, carrying out two operations at a time.
Each surgeon has a private practice back home. Each has volunteered to spend six days helping out in the Philippines as part of Operation Rainbow.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The biggest reward that keeps us coming back each year is the fact that we make a difference for the young people and the families for whom we do this. Its professionally rewarding from the technical standpoint, we get to use skills that we have in another setting and then we share that with people who have such need. It's a very exciting and heartwarming feeling to share this.

The Rainbow team put banners up but have little need to need to advertise.
They've been coming to the Philippines for ten years and their work has made a vital difference to those who need this expensive corrective surgery.

Ten-year-old Romeo is recovering from an operation that's fixed both his hair lip and his cleft palate.
His father is out of work and his parents could never have afforded even basic treatment.
Romeo's mother is grateful for the chance. Her son will benefit from today's surgery for the rest of his life.

It's another backpacker's trip (maybe when we're older we'd travel more luxuriously) and we visit Philippines northernmost tip of land - Ilocos. It was a short four day adventure - mostly of beaches and falls. We loved the natural Kabigan falls the best, proved to be a very refreshing dip after a scorching day in the sun. We don't see much clear waters in our Manila rivers nowadays but the tributaries from the falls were pristine enough it was potable. Pagudbud beach, we love to return here. Quieter than Boracay but has that similar quintessential beach vibe. We prefer solitude now, not so much for parties and night outs. Again as our travel adventures dictate: we don't plan on anything. 3,252 pesos can bring you to a place above the cloud full of mysteries. Wanna know how? Here it goes!
-How to get there from Manila?
Take a bus that can bring you to Baguio. Leave Manila around 4 to 5 am so you can be at Baguio around 11am. I prefer taking Victory Liner because their buses depart every hour from their terminals in Manila, Cubao, Caloocan, and Pasay. Buses get full, especially during peak season. So be sure to reserve your ticket a day before your scheduled departure to guarantee yourself a seat.
When you arrive at Baguio take a taxi going to GL/Lizardo Trans Station at Dangwa Terminal and ride a bus going to Botoc! From Baguio to Bontoc, it is a 5 to 6 hour journey. Take the 12:30pm or 1:30pm bus to Bontoc so you’ll catch the beautiful combination of colors in the sky due to breathe taking sunset while on the way.
-Where to stay?
As soon as you arrive at Bontoc, you should check in at a hotel or you’ll freeze by the cold breeze in the area! There are lots of hotels in Bontoc raging from 150 to 250 PHP (rooms w/ shared toilet) and 300 to 500 PHP (rooms with private toilet). I recommend taking Churya-a hotel as they also serve good food and give you a perfect landscape of the town.
-What to do and where to go?
First thing in the morning, go to the Tourism Office located beside the Police station at the heart of Bontoc. You should register and pay an environment/tourist fee. But in my case, I paid nothing due to the generosity of the officers in charge that day. In addition, they gave me tips and guided me on how I can enjoy my 3 days stay at the beautiful town of Bontoc, Mountain Province.
There are a lot of things that you can do while you are at the town proper. Restaurants are everywhere! They serve eye catching, mouthwatering, and tummy satisfying food often served in big portions to satisfy hungry backpackers! Expect to spend around 130-170 pesos per meal with drinks. Adjust accordingly based on how much you want to eat and drink.
Start your adventure with a 20-minute jeepney ride going to Maligcong Rice Terraces. When you arrive at Maligcong, pay the environment/tourist fee of 20 PHP. Trekking around the terraces will take you about 2 to 3 hours. You can stay at Vilma’s guest house over the night then wake up around 4am the next day for you to see the sunrise over the bed of clouds at Maligcong Rice Terraces just like the sunrise at Kiltepan Park, Sagada.
Want to hike not 1, not 2 mountains but ranges? The Bontoc Ili - Alab Mountain ranges is the answer. It is 20 minutes away from the town proper via jeepney or bus. Have a flashback as you trek for 5 hours because of the rich history and mystery behind the burial caves and terraces you will encounter during your trek! The Bontoc Alab – Ili trek lasts up to 3-5 hours depending on your speed and endurance. You can hire a tour guide so you can have a safe and more educational trek. 800 PHP when you’re alone and 1200 PHP for a group of 5!
Before you leave Bontoc, make sure to drop by the Bontoc Museum and catch a glimpse of the rich culture, and colorful history of the peoples in the Cordilleras. The vast collection in the museum ranges from tools during the headhunting era, regular clothing to traditional costumes used for special celebrations, spectacular photographs to miniature models of traditional houses, and many more!
The 3 days stay at the Town of Bontoc is not enough! I missed some exciting things due to lack of time. But surely it is a town that you’ll go back with!
Mysteries over a clouded town are still mysteries and yet to be uncovered!

It's another backpacker's trip (maybe when we're older we'd travel more luxuriously) and we visit Philippines northernmost tip of land - Ilocos. It was a short four day adventure - mostly of beaches and falls. We loved the natural Kabigan falls the best, proved to be a very refreshing dip after a scorching day in the sun. We don't see much clear waters in our Manila rivers nowadays but the tributaries from the falls were pristine enough it was potable. Pagudbud beach, we love to return here. Quieter than Boracay but has that similar quintessential beach vibe. We prefer solitude now, not so much for parties and night outs.
Again as our travel adventures dictate: we don't plan on anything. Literally drove to whichever terminal that has a destination for either Vigan or Laoag on the night (midnight actually!) we were about to leave. Alighted the bus 10 hours later and casually talked to the friendly tricycle driver if he can take us to the sand dunes. Everything from that point just happened naturally, we got lucky with board and lodging and the guide. Thank you Kuya Julius of Laoag and Kuya Ramon of Pagudpud for taking us to see places. We'd love to be back!

“Unde the banyan tree” is a documentary exploring the inner world, memories and experiences of a 103-year-old Philippine woman, Nana Jessie. The life of a woman who at 18 left her birthplace in Cuba, to travel across land and ocean all by herself, to meet her future husband, Marcial Lichauco, in Manila. This is the portrait of a life full of adventure and unusual situations, embracing from before World War II to the present day. A house packed with old books, antiques, exotic objects, stuffed wild animals, photo albums, cats, dogs and a huge two hundred year old banyan tree next to the Pasig River, will be the supporting actors at the background of her memories. Through them and a clownish historical guide named Carlos, we will discover the history of a country, the traces of the Spanish and North American colonization, as well as the violent Japanese invasion during World War II.
The film is a kaleidoscopic glance at Grandma Jessie´s recollections, a dance with ghosts arising from her past: the turbulent XXth century Philippine history. A poetic mapping of the home where she lived almost all her life, enduring war amongst other hazardous situations, always protected by the presence of the eternal banyan tree, a symbol of permanence and stability. A centennial woman, much like the Pasig waters, softly caressing the river bank close to the house, with its boats and humble people.
A historical review of Philippine XXth century through the photographic albums; a series of interviews to the offspring of Philippine prostitutes and soldiers from the North American military base, socially excluded individuals, deprived of any citizenship rights; talks with some of Jessie´s seven children; conversations with survivors from the concentration camps during the War; participation in local folk dances; enjoying beautiful landscapes; mingling with today’s inhabitants along the river. All of these will merge into a surprising, unpredictable film about a family, a country, a history.
This is not a regular documentary, but rather a joyful song about everything surrounding Jessie, her photo albums, her furniture, the stuffed antelopes and lions, the magical corners of a home haunted by memories. Silent pauses, thoughtful gazes towards the river, the people surrounding her, a visual poetry telling us of her life, her feelings, her dead husband, her children, her home, her country. The Filipino people have devised many cheap ways to strap an engine to some tires and call it a vehicle. If you've ever seen the movie 'Mad Max', you can sometimes get a similar feeling!
These are probably inventions you didn’t know existed in the Philippines, inventions for transportation that would probably make you pray for whatever they are carrying. That is why it’s fun to travel in the Philippines, the actual traveling itself is part of the experience! You get to experience different modes of transportation, both safe and unsafe. Sometimes, you’ll be amazed by the invention ideas these people come up with, anything that can pass for a vehicle and carry something (peope or obejcts) are used to earn a living. Although, these traveling options are sometimes the only way of getting to a certain place, especially those with steep passages.

Even with all the 'sketchy' vehicle options, you'll still be getting around Manila largely in taxis. Here's a few tips to about getting ripped off by your taxi driver!
1. Never put your luggage or bags in the trunk. If you sit in the front of the car and get dropped off at your location, it's all too easy for a taxi driver to drive by you and make off with your stuff.
2. Make sure your driver turns on the meter. If your taxi driver refuses to turn on the meter then he is trying to rip you off!
3. Have Google Maps on your phone while driving if possible.

the whole story; i often get solicitations for work, all kinds of companies, people, organizations etc asking if i would be interested in making a video for them. i was really concerned after the typhoon, as anyone with a heartbeat was. left with the frustration and guilt i often feel when i learn of other people suffering, a guilt for not being able to help more. i had made donations but it's hard to see or feel the effects of ones contributions. a few days later i was contacted by 20th Century Fox, they wanted to know if i could make a promotional film to get the word out about Ben Stiller's great new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Mitty is a movie about chasing a dream and they wanted me to make a movie about chasing a dream. I am a big dreamer but at that time only one thing came to mind; if i could do anything in the world right now what would it be? that's to help the victims of the typhoon. i, someone crassly, replied to 20th Century Fox that the only movie i wanted to make is one where i give away the budget to those in need. i still don't understand how or why but they agreed. i jumped on a plane with my best friend and fellow adventurer Oscar and we flew to Manila. there was little time to think or plan before we left, actually we did zero planning before we left. my original thought was that we'd connect with an NGO already in place, a non-profit that's already doing a lot of good, and i'd simply hand them a check. but that turned out complicated and it sort of felt like the non-profits we contacted did not want to link up with us. so on a whim we decided to launch our very own relief mission. it was complicated and at first improbable but with the help of an extremely loving group of locals, all who were total strangers, we were able to stretch the production budget really far. beyond the food distributed in the video we also worked with a local nurse and purchased a lot of medicine and medical supplies, as well as providing tools to village leaders to be shared within the village and aid in the rebuilding process.

no crew traveled with us, it was just Oscar and me. we filmed this ourselves, with a tripod, using my personal cameras.
the whole story; i often get solicitations for work, all kinds of companies, people, organizations etc asking if i would be interested in making a video for them. i was really concerned after the typhoon, as anyone with a heartbeat was. left with the frustration and guilt i often feel when i learn of other people suffering, a guilt for not being able to help more. i had made donations but it's hard to see or feel the effects of ones contributions. a few days later i was contacted by 20th Century Fox, they wanted to know if i could make a promotional film to get the word out about Ben Stiller's great new movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Mitty is a movie about chasing a dream and they wanted me to make a movie about chasing a dream. I am a big dreamer but at that time only one thing came to mind; if i could do anything in the world right now what would it be? that's to help the victims of the typhoon. i, someone crassly, replied to 20th Century Fox that the only movie i wanted to make is one where i give away the budget to those in need. i still don't understand how or why but they agreed. i jumped on a plane with my best friend and fellow adventurer Oscar and we flew to Manila. there was little time to think or plan before we left, actually we did zero planning before we left. my original thought was that we'd connect with an NGO already in place, a non-profit that's already doing a lot of good, and i'd simply hand them a check. but that turned out complicated and it sort of felt like the non-profits we contacted did not want to link up with us. so on a whim we decided to launch our very own relief mission. it was complicated and at first improbable but with the help of an extremely loving group of locals, all who were total strangers, we were able to stretch the production budget really far. beyond the food distributed in the video we also worked with a local nurse and purchased a lot of medicine and medical supplies, as well as providing tools to village leaders to be shared within the village and aid in the rebuilding process.

Up to 80 Filipino children suffering from hair lips and cleft palates will get a chance of a normal appearance thanks to a team of American and Australian medical volunteers.
Operation Rainbow members work around the clock to get through as many operations as they can in six days.
The queues form as soon as the word is out that the team of Western surgeons is in town.
Parents and children flock to the hospital in the northern province of Tarlac in the Philippines.
Children line the corridors hoping for their chance of surgery on a cleft palate or hair lip.
They're all from poor families and this is their only hope of an operation which normally costs 4,000 U-S dollars.
Inside the operating theatre, American and Australian surgeons and their support teams struggle to meet demand, carrying out two operations at a time.
Each surgeon has a private practice back home. Each has volunteered to spend six days helping out in the Philippines as part of Operation Rainbow.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
The biggest reward that keeps us coming back each year is the fact that we make a difference for the young people and the families for whom we do this. Its professionally rewarding from the technical standpoint, we get to use skills that we have in another setting and then we share that with people who have such need. It's a very exciting and heartwarming feeling to share this.

The Rainbow team put banners up but have little need to need to advertise.
They've been coming to the Philippines for ten years and their work has made a vital difference to those who need this expensive corrective surgery.

Ten-year-old Romeo is recovering from an operation that's fixed both his hair lip and his cleft palate.
His father is out of work and his parents could never have afforded even basic treatment.
Romeo's mother is grateful for the chance. Her son will benefit from today's surgery for the rest of his life.
