Namibia (/nəˈmɪbiə/, /næˈ-/), officially the Republic of Namibia (German: Republik Namibia ; Afrikaans: Republiek van Namibië), and formerly German South-West Africa and then South West Africa, is a country in southern Africa whose western border is the Atlantic Ocean. It shares land borders with Zambia and Angola to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south and east. Although it does not border Zimbabwe, less than 200 metres of the Zambezi River (essentially a small bulge in Botswana to achieve a Botswana/Zambia micro-border) separates them at their closest points. It gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990, following the Namibian War of Independence. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek. Namibia is a member state of the United Nations (UN), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The dry lands of Namibia were inhabited since early times by San, Damara, and Namaqua, and since about the 14th century AD by immigrating Bantu who came with the Bantu expansion. Most of the territory became a German Imperial protectorate in 1884 and remained a German colony until the end of World War I. In 1920, the League of Nations mandated the country to South Africa, which imposed its laws and, from 1948, its apartheid policy. The port of Walvis Bay and the offshore Penguin Islands had been annexed by the Cape Colony under the British crown by 1878 and had become an integral part of the new Union of South Africa at its creation in 1910.

Namibia is one of the top 50 largest countries in the world, but is also the second most sparsely populated nation with only 2 million people. But despite its small population and harsh climatic conditions, Namibia is a country rich in resources. Its the worlds sixth largest diamond producer and recently revived its uranium industry making the second largest uranium producer in Africa after Niger.
Namibia's economy has been growing steadily for the last six years, recording growth rates of more than 5%. The implementation of a national development plan, prudent fiscal policy and political stability has seen a rise in foreign capital inflows. The country has also been earmarked to house a port servicing facility for the SADC trading bloc.
Namibia has significant opportunities for investment and foreign direct investment during the first three quarters of 2013 jumped to an impressive N$6 billion, compared to N$1.5 billion during the same period in 2012. Listen to Stefan Hugo, Head of PwC Tax in Namibia highlighting some of the challenges that business' face when investing across borders.

In June 1978 it was learnt that SWAPO was preparing to attack the military bases at Katima Mulilo, Wenela and M''pacha. To meet this attack two combat teams viz Alpha and Bravo were formed. The attack started on 23 August with a stand-off bombardment using 122 mm rockets on Katima Mulilo. One of these penetrated the roof of a barrack killing ten soldiers. After an artillery and mortar battle the two combat units crossed the border. Combat team Bravo's target was a SWAPO base camp approximately 30 km from the Zambian border but they found it deserted and returned to M''pacha without having accomplished this objective. Combat Unit Alpha managed to catch up with the rear guard of a number of fleeing terrorists but were enticed into an ambush. In the fighting which ensued five terrorists w...

From the time of its inception, the military played a decisive role in the history of the United States. A sense of national unity and identity was forged as a result of victory in the First Barbary War and the Second Barbary War. Even so, the Founders were suspicious of a permanent military force. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has told a security conference in Germany that terrorist groups have trained in his country and that the African states need to be organized. President Mohamud admitted his country has been plagued by al-Shabab militants as well as corruption and political infighting and has only made limited progress in setting up a working political system. The presence of Boko Haram—the Takfiri terror group that has pledged allegiance to Daesh—adds a deadly dimension to an already alarming situation in Somalia. President Mohamud added, ‘The terrorists are so linked together, they are associated and so organized, (that) we the world we need to be so organized.’ But is this call for cooperation simply window dressing? Following President Omar El-Bashir's decision to suspend talks with U.S. over imposed sanctions, talks to resolve the issue now remains in limbo. The president took the decision in what is seen as a reaction over President Trump's decision to delay the removal of sanctions. El-Bashir has, however, recognized the steps made over the talks. United States imposed restrictions on Sudan over human rights violations, and links to terrorism. Part of the deal that saw relaxation of the limitations was granting independence to South Sudan, improvement of human rights in Darfur region and cutting links with perceived terrorist groups. When people think of diamonds poverty is not usually the first think that comes to mind. The reality is diamonds are mined in some of the poorest countries on earth. One might think the answer would be simply stop buying diamonds from continents like Africa based on the injustices of the past (and unfortunately ongoing in Zimbabwe) but this would only make things worse for those struggling to survive. At Precious Earth we believe the answer is to responsibly harness the economical potential of traceable diamonds and empower the local people through jobs and education in the territories, like Namibia, where diamonds are mined. Namibia Diamonds are the only diamonds that feature the Team Namibia* logo and come with a validation certificate. This assures you that your diamond is a natural, et...

A 500-year-old Portuguese ship filled with gold estimated to be worth $13,000,000 and other treasures was unearthed in the Namibian desert along Africa’s “Skeletal Coast.” Miners from De Beers discovered the wreckage of Bom Jesus, a ship traveling from Lisbon to India in 1533, in the pit of a drained lagoon in 2008. Once excavation of the site was complete minors discovered hundreds of gold coins. It is believed the ship went down due to a combination of excess cargo and bad weather. Travel video about destination Namib Naukluft in Namibia. The arid landscape of the Namib Naukluft Park in the heart of Namibia seems to be endless and it is the fourth largest nature reserve in the world. In the northern region, between the river valleys of the Swakop and Kuiseb, vast fields of scree cover the majority of this fifty thousand square kilometre conservation area. The remote world of stone and rock seems so strange and unreal that one of the valleys in this region is called Moon Valley.Further into the Namib Desert and the colours of the surrounding landscape grow more intense. It is as though both earth and sky are competing against each other to see who shines brightest. The majestic and world famous blazing red dunes of Sossusvlei tower more than three hundred metres over ...
Namibia Travel Guide, Namibia Trip, Namibia Safari, Namibia Beaches, Tourist attractions in Namibia Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Namibia posesses some of the most stunning landscapes in Africa, and a trip through the country is one of the great road adventures. Natural wonders such as that mighty gash in the earth at Fish River Canyon and the wildlife utopia of Etosha National Park enthrall, but it’s the lonely desert roads where mighty slabs of granite rise out of swirling desert sands that will sear themselves in your mind. It’s like a coffee-table book come to life as sand dunes in the world’s oldest desert meet the crashing rollers along the wild Atlantic coast. Among all this is a German legacy evident in the cuis...

South Africa is not only impressive due to its size but also due to its amazing variety of fascinating scenery. Its paradise-like flora and fauna plus its historic and famous landmarks are totally captivating. Johannesburg is a modern metropolis and with around a million and a half inhabitants is the capital of Gauteng Province and the largest city in South Africa. It was founded in 1886 when gold was first discovered at Witwater Beach. Although European influence is obvious in South Africa the first inhabitants of this fascinating country were of course the various indigenous people of Africa and the village of Lesedi around twenty five kilometres south of Johannesburg provides many insights into ancient Africa’s traditions and dances. Lesedi contains four tiny villages that are inhabi...

Women and girls tend to perform more labor intensive work than men and boys do, such as carrying water to the village, earthen plastering the mopane wood homes with a traditional mixture of red clay soil and cow manure binding agent, collecting firewood, attend to the calabash vines used for producing and ensuring a secure supply of soured milk, cooking and serving meals, as well as artisans making handicrafts, clothing and jewelry. The responsibility for milking the cows and goats also lies with the women and girls. Women and girls take care of the children, and one woman or girl will take care of another woman's children. The men's main task is preoccupied tending to the livestock farming, herding where the men will often be away from the family home for extended periods, animal slaughte...
Produced by Kevin Harris in 1988, "Namibia - no easy road to Freedom" looked at the harsh realities suffered by Namibia's civilian population under a history of colonial occupation and more specifically the brutalisation suffered as a consequence of South African military occupation. As such, the film was a cry for liberation from the shackles of South African military occupation and a call by the people of Namibia for the right to self determination through the implementation of United Nations Resolution 435. The film was seized by the South African Security Police from The Video Lab in Johannesburg during post-production mass-duplication & subsequently banned in an unsuccessful attempt by the South African authorities to prevent international distribution. Namibia achieved independence ...
