If there was a checklist for a midlife crisis-addled man seeking to regain some semblance of his youth, Channel Nine's Today show host Karl Stefanovic has ticked all of the boxes.
On his way for a round of tennis on Friday wearing a pair of eye-catching, bright red, floral shorts to match his bright red runners, the 42-year-old, father-of-three stopped by the Mercedes Benz garage in Cremorne, North Sydney, and drove away in a new $177,000 Mercedes Benz coupe – a far slicker model than the Mercedes Benz family 4WD he used navigate.

Karl Stefanovic goes public with new girlfriend
Months after announcing his split from his wife of 21 years, Today host Karl Stefanovic is photographed sailing in Sydney with new girlfriend Jasmine Yarbrough.
It was the cherry on top of his public rebirth that has spiked the public's interest ever since he split from his wife of 21 years, Cassandra Thorburn, 46, last July.
Not long after announcing his marriage breakdown, Stefanovic went public with his new girlfriend, former model Jasmine Yarbrough, 33, aboard a party yacht sailing around Sydney Harbour.
If eyebrows weren't raised enough about the seemingly sudden union, they were when he was spotted grabbing Yarbrough intimately in public as she jumped into his arms at the airport in Los Angeles, where she resides.
It has been suggested that the relationship hasn't gone down too well with Today's mostly female, family-friendly audience, and despite an intense breakfast show battle, Seven's Sunrise has been mostly winning the ratings thanks in part to a stellar guest list that has included Katy Perry and Niall Horan recently.
But the losing streak hasn't put a dampener in the pep of Stefanovic's step.
Known and loved for his devil-may-care-attitude, the public's opinion has had little effect as he travels the world with his girlfriend in tow. It was a five-star getaway in Cabo, Mexico, with Yarbrough and her parents during the school holidays in April when Thorburn and his children, Jackson, 17, Ava, 12, and River, 10, were packing up and moving out of their family home. While last month, he was spotted grinning aboard a jet-ski as he raced a bikini-clad Yarbrough around his good friend James Packer's superyacht, the Arctic P, in French Polynesia.
Adding to the old cliches of a flashy sports car, a younger partner, new adventures, and a hair transplant, Stefanovic has also started sporting a new look.
Slipping out of his trademark Birkenstocks, furry sandals – a staple for teen idol Kylie Jenner, 19, and pop singer Rihanna, 29, – were his footwear of choice for a recent trip to Queensland to visit Yarbrough's family.
Let's hope the next step in Stefanovic's reawakening isn't a phoenix rising from the ashes back tattoo à la Ben Affleck.
