A five-man unit of cops on night patrol get more than they bargain for when they arrive at a creepy backwater town in the middle of nowhere after a call comes over the radio for backup. Entering a derelict building, the seasoned tough guys and their rookie junior, who’s still haunted by a traumatic childhood dream, do the one thing you should never do in this kind of movie: they split up. They soon realize they’ve stumbled into a monstrous charnel house and descend into an ever-more nightmarish netherworld where grotesque, mind-wrenching horrors await them at every turn. What should be a routine night on patrol becomes a trip into the darkness of the mind and soul for a squad of unsuspecting cops in this tour-de-force feature debut from the ferociously talented director Can Evrenol. Based on Evrenol's terrifying 2013 short of the same name, and drawing upon a diverse range of inspirations — not only such films as Quest for Fire, Apocalypse Now, and Hellraiser but also the paintings of Caravaggio, Bosch, and Giger — Baskin offers up a nightmarish compendium of imaginative frights that will leave even seasoned horror-movie fans reeling.
Responding to an emergency call for backup, the squad arrives at an old building to find an abandoned patrol car and no sign of their comrades. Entering the building and making their way to the basement, the officers catch glimpses of grotesque and unnerving images in the shadows. Soon it becomes apparent that they have stumbled into the middle of a ritual celebrating the black arts — a celebration where they may be the unwitting guests of honour. What began as a detour into the Twilight Zone becomes a shortcut to Hell.
Tense and terrifying, Baskin will invade your dream space with its unforgettable images and the unimaginable monstrosities lurking just outside your range of vision.
This screening promises to be just as disturbing and scandalous as the 2008 Midnight Madness showing of Pascal Laugier's Martyrs — and, at the very least, we might just set the world record for the largest number of people gathered together in North America to see a Turkish movie at midnight.

Horror film
Horror is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on the audience's primal fears. Inspired by literature from authors like Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and Mary Shelley, horror films have existed for more than a century. The macabre and the supernatural are frequent themes, and may overlap with the fantasy, supernatural fiction and thriller genres.
Horror films often deal with viewers' nightmares, fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage into the everyday world. Prevalent elements include ghosts, extraterrestrials, vampires, werewolves, demons, gore, torture, vicious animals, evil witches, monsters, zombies, cannibals, psychopaths, and serial killers. Movies about the supernatural are not necessarily horrific.
History
1890-1920s
The first depictions of supernatural events appear in several of the silent shorts created by the film pioneer Georges Méliès in the late 1890s, the best known being Le Manoir du Diable, which is sometimes credited as being the first horror film. Another of his horror projects was 1898's La Caverne maudite (a.k.a. The Cave of the Unholy One, literally "the accursed cave").Japan made early forays into the horror genre with Bake Jizo and Shinin no Sosei, both made in 1898. The era featured a slew of literary adaptations, with the works of Poe and Dante, among others. In 1910, Edison Studios produced the first film version of Frankenstein, following the 1908 film adaptation of the novel Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The macabre nature of the source materials used made the films synonymous with the horror film genre.

IFC Films
IFC Films is an American film distribution company based in New York City. It is an offshoot of IFC owned by AMC Networks. It distributes independent films and documentaries under the IFC Films, Sundance Selects and IFC Midnight brands. It operates the IFC Center.
History
IFC has several ventures in video on demand (VOD), available through cable television pay-per-view, Apple iTunes, and formerly Blockbuster's Movielink. 2006, IFC launched IFC First Take combining a limited theatrical release with video on demand being available the same day, the films included would be shown at IFC owned IFC Center, as well as other theaters, Landmark Theatres were the first outside theaters announced. That same year, In 2006, IFC Films began distributing some films to Apple iTunes. The first batch were thirteen films with nominations in the Film Independent Spirit Awards. In a March 2008 panel discussion, IFC Film's Arianna Bocco stated that all its films would be released through First Take. That same year, IFC launched IFC Festival Direct, a platform for video on demand distribution, for films that aren't slated for a theatrical release in the United States, the idea of Festival Direct was to remove the term direct-to-video. in 2010, it was announced that IFC Films would be launching a division titled IFC Midnight, the division would focus on releasing horror, sci-fi, thrillers, erotic arthouse, and action.

Plot: Anna is a middle-aged actress looking for work in New York City, with the help of her sometime lover, Daniel. Based on Evrenol's terrifying 2013 short of the same name, and drawing upon a diverse range of inspirations — not only such films as Quest for Fire, Apocalypse Now, and Hellraiser but also the paintings of Caravaggio, Bosch, and Giger — Baskin offers up a nightmarish compendium of imaginative frights that will leave even seasoned horror-movie fans reeling.
Responding to an emergency call for backup, the squad arrives at an old building to find an abandoned patrol car and no sign of their comrades. Entering the building and making their way to the basement, the officers catch glimpses of grotesque and unnerving images in the shadows. Soon it becomes apparent that they have stumbled into the middle of a ritual celebrating the black arts — a celebration where they may be the unwitting guests of honour. What began as a detour into the Twilight Zone becomes a shortcut to Hell.
