A couple of SUPs came down who didn't understand the power of the ocean and they kind of ate it. Fortunately we were all watching out for them after we gave them plenty of warnings. Brook Street
Brook Street is one of the principal streets on the Grosvenor Estate in the exclusive central London district of Mayfair. Named after the Tyburn Brook that formerly ran nearby, it was developed in the first half of the 18th century and runs from Hanover Square to Grosvenor Square. The continuation from Grosvenor Square to Park Lane is called Upper Brook Street. Both sections originally consisted of typical London terraced houses, mostly built to individual designs. Some of them are quite grand and were designed by well known architects for aristocratic clients, especially near Grosvenor Square, while others are more modest. Some of the original houses survive while others have been replaced by buildings from a variety of periods.
Features of the street include the grand hotel Claridge's, at the junction with Davies Street, and Le Gavroche, a famous restaurant. The United States Embassy, which abuts Upper Brook Street and Grosvenor Square, has necessitated security arrangements which impede free access to the former. The Embassy of Argentina is at number 65. The Handel House Museum is also in Brook Street. A curiosity is the placing of two blue plaques on adjoining houses, numbers 23 and 25, both for famous musicians.

Street
A street is a public thoroughfare (usually paved) in a built environment. It is a public parcel of land adjoining buildings in an urban context, on which people may freely assemble, interact, and move about. A street can be as simple as a level patch of dirt, but is more often paved with a hard, durable surface such as concrete, cobblestone or brick. Brook Street Unitarian Chapel, Knutsford was built about 1690 after the Act of Toleration was passed allowing dissenters to have their own chapels - before that date they were heavily fined for holding their own meetings and not attending the established church. It became Unitarian about 1780 though I note that the library books, several donated by Mrs Lumb or the Holland family, were labelled "Knutsford Presbyterian Chapel".

St Neots Through Time is a new book by Amberley publishing which will be available in April 2014. It shows views of St Neots taken from old postcards, with the current view of the same location with captions describing the scene.
St Neots used to be in the county of Huntingdonshire, but it is now in Cambridgeshire. If you ask locals what St Neots is famous for, they will probably give you one of the following answers: that at one time it had the most public houses per capita in the British Isles; or that it is called St Neots because some monks went to St Neot in Cornwall in 974, stole the saint s bones, and carried them 300 miles away to the banks of the River Great Ouse, thus founding the Priory of St Neots. There are actually four separate parts to what now comes under the heading of St Neots . Eynesbury is the oldest; Eaton Ford is just across the river to the west; and further on from there is Eaton Socon, on the old Great North Road. About the Authors
Jonanthan Mountfort is a local author with a huge range of interests and a deep attachment to St Neots. Jon's father founded the St Neots Technical College, his mother was a member of St Neots Players and he has lived in the town his entire life. Jon has previously published books on the history of Scalextric, British steam engines, a tour guide to the British Isles, two children's books and a book of sonnets. Jon also used to write guides to computers and electronics and continues to write manuals for engineering and computer companies. This is his first book for Amberley Publishing. The modern views were taken by photographer Meredith Hadfield who has lived in the town for more than 20 years.

St Neots Through Time is a new book by Amberley publishing which will be available in April 2014. It shows views of St Neots taken from old postcards, with the current view of the same location with captions describing the scene.
St Neots used to be in the county of Huntingdonshire, but it is now in Cambridgeshire. If you ask locals what St Neots is famous for, they will probably give you one of the following answers: that at one time it had the most public houses per capita in the British Isles; or that it is called St Neots because some monks went to St Neot in Cornwall in 974, stole the saint s bones, and carried them 300 miles away to the banks of the River Great Ouse, thus founding the Priory of St Neots. There are actually four separate parts to what now comes under the heading of St Neots . Eynesbury is the oldest; Eaton Ford is just across the river to the west; and further on from there is Eaton Socon, on the old Great North Road. One-way self-guided tour. Opened on 14 August 1990. One of Birmingham's largest leisure attractions - welcoming over 500,000 visitors each year. Offers the opportunity to explore and discover chocolate's history, to learn about the origins and story of the Cadbury business - one of the world's largest confectionery manufacturers.
02. National Sea Life Centre
An aquarium with over 60 displays of freshwater and marine life. Its one-million-litre ocean tank houses giant green sea turtles, blacktip reef sharks and tropical reef fish, with a fully transparent underwater tunnel.
03. Thinktank
A science museum. Has four floors of over 200 hands-on exhibits and artefacts. Each floor has a theme, in general going from the past, in The Past (Level 0), through The Balcony (Level 1) and The Present (Level 2), to the future, in The Future gallery (Level 3).
04. Blakesley Hall
A Tudor hall on Blakesley Road. A grade II* listed building. One of the oldest buildings in Birmingham and is a typical example of Tudor architecture with the use of darkened timber and wattle-and-daub infill, with an external lime render which is painted white.
05. St Martin in the Bull Ring
A parish church of the Church of England. From east to west the length of the church is 155 ft., including the chancel, the arch of which rises to 60 ft.; the width, including nave (25 ft.) and north and south aisles, is 67 ft.; at the transepts the width is 104 ft.
06. Woodgate Valley Country Park
A Country Park within the Bartley Green and Quinton districts. Maintained as a wildlife habitat but also has farm animals. There are hedgerows, meadows and woodland, plus Bourn Brook. More than 80 species of bird, 250 species of plants.
07. Hall of Memory
A war memorial to commemorate the 12,320 Birmingham citizens who died in World War I. The interior features three carved bas-relief plaques representing three tableaux: Call (departure to war), Front Line (fighting), Return (arrival home of the wounded).
08. Birmingham Botanical Gardens
A 15 acres (6.1 hectares) botanical gardens. Open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Contain over 7,000 different plants and are home to The British National Bonsai Collection. One of the oldest specimens is the "Omiya tree", a 250-year-old Juniperus chinensis.
09. Clent Hills
The most popular hillwalking hill in the range. Just under a million visitors a year are estimated to come to the hills, making them Worcestershire's most popular non-paying attraction.
10. Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens
10 acres (40,000 m2) walled Baroque gardens. The only remaining example in the country of a formal English garden design. Generally open to the public from April to September 11am-4pm. Castle Bromwich Hall itself is now a hotel.

A live performance from the MONA FOMA Festival in Hobart, Australia, January 2016. The music is improvised along basic themes that I use. I played in the intense summer sun inside a glass terminal. It was like being in a car in the sun with the windows rolled up. An interesting experience that I am thankful to have survived. Due to the situation, I had to quickly set up my gear after the previous band. I tried to find a place to set the video camera up that was out in the audience, yet wouldn't get bumped or knocked over. Unfortunately, it appeared to have been moved a bit from how I set it, so that the focus is higher than I would like, making it impossible to see what I was doing with the Gongs & Bells on the floor. This is "Brooks Street" located just south of main downtown Laguna Beach Southern California U.S.A. It is the big wave break for the area, if you're lucky enough to catch it firing! On smaller days it can be very fun also but gets a little crowded for those kind of conditions during summer along with swimmers. You want a big straight south swell 175-185 degrees long period 6 feet 18 seconds or more, to give it the volume it needs to break on the far outside 2nd reef, connect and jack to the inside left slide boils. A Hurricane moving up Baja close enough can also produce outstanding surf in this area but moves more up the beach north hitting the other near by street breaks, Oak, Anita,Thalia, St Ann's, all the way up to Cleo, and the infamous "Sleepy "Hollow" break which pumps tubes ending...

A live performance from the MONA FOMA Festival in Hobart, Australia, January 2016. The music is improvised along basic themes that I use. I played in the intense summer sun inside a glass terminal. It was like being in a car in the sun with the windows rolled up. An interesting experience that I am thankful to have survived.
Due to the situation, I had to quickly set up my gear after the previous band. I tried to find a place to set the video camera up that was out in the audience, yet wouldn't get bumped or knocked over. Unfortunately, it appeared to have been moved a bit from how I set it, so that the focus is higher than I would like, making it impossible to see what I was doing with the Gongs & Bells on the floor. But you can hear the music and imagine what was happening.
As it was an active public ferry terminal, people moved about and there is often much background noise and chatter. This made it all the more challenging to stay focused while performing. That, combined with the heat, made it even more of a challenge. But as a musician, this is all part of being an active performer. And in the end, at least for me, it's all about the music, which looking back I'm quite pleased with.
As an artist, I'm always moving forward, so until I watched this video today, I hadn't realized/remembered what I played back then nearly 7 months ago. In reflection, much of what I played here became the genesis of my 'Stories We Tell Ourselves' album (https://gongtopia.bandcamp.com/album/stories-we-tell-ourselves). In fact, the whole MONA FOMA experience was a watershed moment for me. I hope you find it as interesting as I did when creating it. ~ MB

In the last of the six Palliser novels, the sudden death of his wife, Lady Glencora, leaves Plantagenet Palliser, the Duke of Omnium, finding himself in charge of his three children. The eldest, Lord Silverbridge, has recently been expelled from Oxford; his younger brother, Gerald, is about to enter Cambridge; and the youngest, nineteen-year old Lady Mary, has imprudently formed an attachment to Francis Tregear, who, while certainly a gentleman, unfortunately has no income. Before her death, Glencora knew (and approved) of her daughter's attachment; the Duke, however, does not know of it, and is not at all likely to approve. Mrs. Finn (the former Marie Goesler), who was Glencora's closest friend, learns from Mary of her love for Tregear, and is faced with the question of either keeping silent, thus breaking faith with the Duke (who has entrusted Lady Mary to her care) or telling the Duke, and breaking faith with Mary herself.

This is "Brooks Street" located just south of main downtown Laguna Beach Southern California U.S.A.
It is the big wave break for the area, if you're lucky enoug...
This is "Brooks Street" located just south of main downtown Laguna Beach Southern California U.S.A.
It is the big wave break for the area, if you're lucky enough to catch it firing!
On smaller days it can be very fun also but gets a little crowded for those kind of conditions during summer along with swimmers.
You want a big straight south swell 175-185 degrees long period 6 feet 18 seconds or more, to give it the volume it needs to break on the far outside 2nd reef, connect and jack to the inside left slide boils.
A Hurricane moving up Baja close enough can also produce outstanding surf in this area but moves more up the beach north hitting the other near by street breaks, Oak, Anita,Thalia, St Ann's, all the way up to Cleo, and the infamous "Sleepy "Hollow" break which pumps tubes ending in a crushing shore break to the main beach on the largest of SSE swells, but very rare!
A thick mushy powerful cloud break on the outside will set you up for a very fast jack up mid section to the inside with occasional tubes possible and a long left hotdog slide.
The deep inside section is not to be taken lightly, because the bottom is mostly boulders and deep holes!
Some seaweed can also tangle you up making it even more dangerous.
After you make it past the deep inside sections, it turns mostly into a sand bottom and much safer shoulder with some leftover end rides for less experienced surfers.
Likes a medium tide to even a moderate high incoming, about 2.5-5.9 feet. Lower tides can get a little sketchy on the inside boils!
The winds here are a lot less than most other exposed beach breaks.
South winds normally morning can make things a little crummy but if big enough can handle the light chop very well.
Early mornings are usually very smooth with calm to light offshore wind.
Prevailing west winds in the afternoon are far less here than most other places and still allow great afternoon surf.
Parking is a little tough if you try to go during afternoon hours, dawn patrol has decent space to put your car up the hill aways, or pay meters along PCH.
It's an easy access close walk to a short stairway down to the sand.
Southern Hemisphere straight south swells have a straight open window here with no blockage from San Clemente Island or Santa Catalina, so there is some good power behind this break when big!
Paddle out is not that tough from the north, just don't get run over!
Or try it from the south of Cress St. if you want to sneak into the cloud break line up, but be a little cautious by not under estimating the rugged ocean bottom!
Winter time is mostly flat here to some small ridable occasionally good shore break style waves just to the north at "Thalia St."
The bottom deep inside is semi sharp boulder type, some kelp, with a few deep holes, not something you want to scrape or hit on a wipe out!
Also some sea life under water with Sting Rays, Eels, even a few sharks cruising the reefs, but really not much of a problem.
Warm waters can bring in Jelly fish, just mentioning kind of rare.
Water temperature summer is mostly mid- upper 60s- to some brief low 70's .
Air temperatures in summer topping mid-upper 70's mostly for a few weeks in August-Sept 80's even 90 degree's on the sand possible.
Low air temperatures in summer mostly low 60's to upper 60's
Overall weather is very good, low clouds are typically early morning to afternoon sun.
This area does seem to cloud up a little faster than most other places with the foothills close to the beach building up cloud cover with some fog possible and unpredictable sometimes?
Air temperatures in winter are usually very moderate anywhere for highs during fair weather low 60's to low 70's, sometimes even a little warmer. Not much below upper 50's for highs during rainy winter weather.
Morning low air temperatures in winter mostly mid- upper 40's, can get to about 40 January, but not for long after sunrise.

Lizzie Greystock, a fortune-hunter who ensnares the sickly, dissipated Sir Florian Eustace, is soon left a very wealthy widow and mother. While clever and beautiful, Lizzie has several character flaws; the greatest of these is an almost pathological delight in lying, even when it cannot benefit her. Before he dies, the disillusioned Sir Florian discovers all this, but does not think to change the generous terms of his will. The diamonds of the book's title are a necklace, a Eustace family heirloom that Sir Florian gave to Lizzie to wear. Lizzie attempts to hold onto them, much to the irritation of the longtime family lawyer, Mr Camperdown. The Eustaces find themselves in an awkward position. On the one hand, the diamonds are a valuable heirloom to which Lizzie may not have a legal claim, but on the other, they do not want to antagonize the mother of the heir to the family estate (Lizzie having only a life interest).Meanwhile, after a respectable period of mourning, Lizzie searches for another husband, and "the plot thickens".
