Stephen Valentine Patrick William "Steve" Allen (December 26, 1921 – October 30, 2000) was an American television personality, musician, composer, actor, comedian, and writer. Though he got his start in radio, Allen is best known for his television career. He first gained national attention as a guest host on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. He graduated to become the first host of The Tonight Show, where he was instrumental in innovating the concept of the television talk show. Thereafter, he hosted numerous game and variety shows, including The Steve Allen Show, I've Got a Secret, and The New Steve Allen Show, and was a regular panel member on CBS' What's My Line?
Allen was a creditable pianist and a prolific composer, having written more than 14,000 songs, one of which was recorded by Perry Como and Margaret Whiting, others by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Les Brown, and Gloria Lynne. Allen won the 1964 Grammy Award for Best Original Jazz Composition, with his song written with Ray Brown, "The Gravy Waltz". Allen wrote more than 50 books, has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Hollywood theater named in his honor.
Stephen or Steven /ˈstiːvən/ is a masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stéfanos), in turn from the Greek word "στέφανος", meaning "wreath, crown, honour, reward", literally "that which surrounds or encompasses". In ancient Greece, a wreath was given to the winner of a contest (from which the crown, symbol of rulers derived). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad. The name is significant to Christians: according to the Book of Acts in the New Testament, Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death and is regarded as the first Christian martyr. The name has many variants, which include Stephan, Stevan, Stefan and Stevon.
In Middle English, the name Stephen or Stephan was pronounced as a bi-syllabic word — Step-hen or Step-han — much like a Scandinavian surname. Steve was pronounced as it is in Modern English. This etymological usage began a decline in the mid-19th century.
Steve is the common short form, while various diminutives such as Stevie and Ste are also used. Many family names are derived from Stephen: the most common are Stephens/Stevens and Stephenson/Stevenson (others include Stephen, Stephan, Staphan, Stefan, Stevin and Stever).
Allen, Allen's or Allens may refer to:
The Steve Allen Show was an American variety show hosted by Steve Allen from June 1956 to June 1960 on NBC, from September 1961 to December 1961 on ABC, and in first-run syndication from 1962 to 1964.
The first three seasons aired on Sunday nights at 8:00pm Eastern Time (directly opposite The Ed Sullivan Show), then on Mondays at 10:00pm Eastern in the 1959-60 season (as The Steve Allen Plymouth Show). After a season's absence, the series briefly returned on Wednesdays at 7:30pm Eastern. The syndicated version aired mostly in late nights. The program, between September 1957 and June 1960 became one of the first programs to be telecast in "compatible color"
Kinescopes of the NBC version were later edited into 104 half-hour episodes and rerun on the short-lived '"HA!'" channel and Comedy Central in the early 1990s, with new introductions by Allen.
The show was the first in a series of prime time spin-offs from The Tonight Show, all of which were named after the host: Jack Paar (1962 to 1965) and Jay Leno (2009 to 2010) would follow in Allen's footsteps.
Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (/ˈdʒɒbz/; February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American information technology entrepreneur and inventor. He was the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer (CEO) of Apple Inc.; CEO and largest shareholder of Pixar Animation Studios; a member of The Walt Disney Company's board of directors following its acquisition of Pixar; and founder, chairman, and CEO of NeXT Inc. Jobs is widely recognized as a pioneer of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s, along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Shortly after his death, Jobs's official biographer, Walter Isaacson, described him as the "creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing."
Adopted at birth in San Francisco, and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s, Jobs's countercultural lifestyle was a product of his time. As a senior at Homestead High School in Cupertino, California, his two closest friends were the older engineering student (and Homestead High alumnus) Wozniak and his countercultural girlfriend, the artistically inclined Homestead High junior Chrisann Brennan. Jobs briefly attended Reed College in 1972 before dropping out, deciding to travel through India in 1974 and study Buddhism.

This Popular, award-winning series is your passport to meeting some of the great minds and exciting figures of the past who have influenced mankind and even changed the course of history. Filled with humor, eloquence and thought-provoking controversy, scholars, educators and the press have been unanimous in their praise. In this debut volume you will meet: Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the “father of modern China” (played by Keye Luke, the mystic in the film Gremlins); 19th Century English poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning (Jayne Meadows Allen in a brilliant performance); Italy’s Nicollo Machiavelli (Alfred Ryder), one of history’s most misunderstood and maligned “villains”; and Aristotle (Bernard Behrens), the learned Greek philosopher. Hosted by Steve Allen.
12 20 61...Despite a top-tier team of writers and a new roster of comic talent in Tim Conway, Buck Henry, Joey Forman, and the Smothers Brothers, the New Steve Allen Show was buried in the ratings by the mega-hit Wagon Train (which ranked #1 in the Nielsens). It lasted 13 weeks. Not to suggest that this is anywhere near as good as a typical show from Steve's legendary (1956-60) NBC series...but with that disclaimer, this is the long-lost next to last episode of the "new" series.
Originally aired Feb 10, 1968. This program features: - Victor Borge plays Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto #1. - Dino, Desi & Billy: "My What A Shame" - Jayne Meadows sings "Hello, Dolly!" in Chinese. - The King Family (singers): perform a 'States' medley (please see "Recap" for song titles) - The Scots Guards (Bapipe, Drum and Dancer Corps.) - The Gimma Brothers (tumblers) - Steve Allen, in character as Senator Phillip Buster, answers questions from the studio audience (with help from Jayne Meadows). - Victor Borge, Jayne Meadows and Steve Allen perform a Baroque version of "I Dig Rock 'n' Roll Music."
This is the first episode from The Steve Allen Show from 6/24/1956. The features Sammy Davis, Jr, Kim Novak, Vincent Price and Bob Hope among the guests.

A long-running late night program, The Tonight Show was the first, and for decades the most-watched, network talk program on television. Since 1954 NBC has aired a number of versions of the show which has, as of the mid-1990s, seen four principle hosts: Steve Allen (1954-57), Jack Paar (1957-62), Johnny Carson (1962-92), Jay Leno (1992-2009) and Conan O'Brien (2009-?). In this his interview for the Archive of American Television, Steve Allen explains the genesis of the Tonight SHow, for which he was the original host, on NBC. for the entire interview with Allen, visit http://www.emmytvlegends.org/interviews/people/steve-allen The two-part interview was conducted by Henry Colman on November 25 and December 15, 1997.

Meet with Steve Allen at the prestigious restaurant Gordon Ramsay At The Claridge’s in Mayfair, London. Interview directed for my Graphic Moving Image MA's Elective A, Sound and Visual Narrative, at London College Of Communication - April 2010
Comedian Steve Allen's son was a member of a cult for eleven years and he wrote a book called, Beloved Son, essentially for him to read to consider other points of view. One chapter was on the Moon cult and I was asked to supply much of the information on that chapter. Steve was a great supporter of my work. When he was asked to fill in for the Sonya Live show, he asked me to do the interview to help promote the hardback edition which was released on the 10th anniversary of the Jonestown tragedy- November 18th 1878. Combatting (two "t"s) Cult Mind Control was published in hardback with a simply atrocious cover of the author's objections, before it was re-released in paperback in 1990. During the PR tour for the book, Hassan tried using contact lenses, but he never felt comfortable wearing...
Allen Tate Wood and Steve Hassan discuss their experiences in the Moon cult. They also discuss Sun Myung Moon, politics, as Wood was in charge of the cult's political arm in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They also discuss cults and mind control. Wood was an alcohol and addictions specialist, and author of his memoir, Moonstruck. His web site is http://www.allentwood.com/ If you haven't read the revised, updated edition of Combating Cult Mind Control (kindle came out March, 2015 and paperback in April), please have a read. People are giving rave reviews and it includes human trafficking, terrorist groups like MeK, ISIS, Boko Haram and much more. NOTE: Our computer froze when uploading the interview and a lot was lost unfortunately. But, Allen and I will do another one soon. Frustrating...
Last week at The Iridium Jazz Club in New York City, three funk legends graced the stage to proclaim that the music isn’t on it’s deathbed. Leo Nocentelli, founder of The Meters, the New Orleans based group, who’s hits include “Cissy Strut,” “Sophisticated Cissy,” and “Look Ka Py Py,” was at his best. His Meters Experience is a unit of musicians that keeps the legacy of The Meters alive, a group he founded during the mid-1960’s. The original Meters consisted of Art Neville(keyboards), George Porter, Jr.(bass/vocals), Zigaboo Modeliste(drums), and Leo Nocentelli(guitar). The group was part of singer/songwriter/producer Allen Toussaint’s house band for his record label and other outside productions. As part of the fuse of the great New Orleans music, The Meters recorded with the likes of Pau...

Bassist Christian McBride has filled many shoes this year as an artistic and musical director, musician, radio show host, and heading his own band. From touring with guitarist Pat Metheny to Chick Corea and John McLaughlin, McBride is one of the most requested bassists in jazz. At this year's 2010 Detroit International Jazz Festival, he paid tribute to bassist Ray Brown with pianist Benny Green and drummer Karriem Riggins. Brown was known for enhancing the modern jazz rhythm section and impeccable and innovative solos. McBride was the former Artistic Director of the Detroit and Monterey Jazz Festival and is currently co-director of the New National Jazz Museum of Harlem. His latest Mack Avenue Records release “Kind of Brown” features his band Inside Straight. The quintet consists of pi...
