Kenya (/ˈkɛnjə/; locally [ˈkɛɲa]), officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country in Africa and a founding member of the East African Community (EAC). Its capital and largest city is Nairobi. Kenya's territory lies on the equator and overlies the East African Rift covering a diverse and expansive terrain that extends roughly from Lake Victoria to Lake Turkana (formerly called Lake Rudolf) and further south-east to the Indian Ocean. It is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east. Kenya covers 581,309 km2 (224,445 sq mi), and had a population of approximately 45 million people in July 2014.
Kenya has a warm and humid tropical climate on its Indian Ocean coastline. The climate is cooler in the savannah grasslands around the capital city, Nairobi, and especially closer to Mount Kenya, which has snow permanently on its peaks. Further inland, in the Nyanza region, there is a hot and dry climate which becomes humid around Lake Victoria, the largest tropical fresh-water lake in the world. This gives way to temperate and forested hilly areas in the neighboring western region. The north-eastern regions along the border with Somalia and Ethiopia are arid and semi-arid areas with near-desert landscapes. Kenya is known for its safaris, diverse climate and geography, and expansive wildlife reserves and national parks such as the East and West Tsavo National Park, the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Aberdares National Park. Kenya has several world heritage sites such as Lamu and numerous beaches, including in Diani, Bamburi and Kilifi, where international yachting competitions are held every year.

While Kayle and Amanda take care of several patients that night, there is one patient, a young girl named Emily (Genesis Ochoa), who makes them question their beliefs. Plot: This film, The Jose Lucas Story, is said to be based on a fictionalized account of a particular string of criminal exploits, leading to the arrest, conviction, incarceration, and too sudden death of one, Jose Lucas, a local Brooklyn kid whose early life reads like a Dicken's novel, and ends like a classic Shakespearean tragedy. He's convicted and given a 23-year prison sentence for having been a perpetrator in a notorious day-time jewelry heist in toney, downtown Georgetown, Washington, DC.(2005) Lucas had managed to be caught on a security camera with his homeboy Lex (the one who actually used the gun, shot the shop's jeweler, and managed also, to be un-masked on camera) by design of the other two culprits, Robert and 'E," who when arrested later, in another robbery, make a deal with the DA to escape the heavy sentences given Jose and Lex (who got 24 years as the shooter) by giving them up. The film attempts to get at the story behind that conviction, which many believed resulted in a grossly unfair sentence. After having accepted that Jose has lost in court, they had hoped to fight the verdict; Jose's defense did file and lose several appeals. They had settled into the reality that most residents-of- color in Brooklyn find themselves: that of having a loved one incarcerated.

Politics olympic games 2017 are officially on. Among the medal events is street swimming and gymnastics by men , song and dance , soccer and a new game they now call foot in mouth. To take part, a dose of something intoxicating that could be drink, smoke or just undying love for your leader, sorry, politician, is recommended. These games surprisingly are infectious and as Emmanuel Juma reports on Bullseye siasa edition, the ordinary folk are learning fast. Watch more NTV Kenya videos at ntv.co.ke and nation.co.ke. For more DW Business news go to http://www.dw.com/en/top-stories/business/s-1431 Kenya has ambitious plans for its economy. But its ambitions don’t stop with the economy. To power economic growth lots of energy will be required. And if all goes to plan, most of that energy will come from renewable resources.
Kenya has been voted the third fastest growing economy in the world in a survey of the top 20 economies experiencing robust growth, in 2015. According to economists surveyed by Bloomberg, a leading business reporting network in the world, only China and the Philippines were likely to experience higher growth this year.
South Africa became part of the BRICS group back in twenty ten and its clear to see why. From two thousand and two through to two thousand and eight, the country experienced annual growth averaging a tad under five percent per year and at times during that period it had teased the eight percent level giving a glimpse of the possibilities ahead. With vast natural resources such as gold, diamonds and platinum, excellent infrastructure and easy access to finance for business it had all the right ingredients in place for this trend to continue. The global recession hit hard however and, after a sharp contraction in the economy of six percent, it never really found its feet again. An increasingly corrupt government and high crime rates haven’t helped win foreign investment back into the region...
The World Bank has highlighted that Kenya's economic growth has been robust in the face of a global economic slowdown and low commodity prices. This has been supported by the non-dependence on oil exports; and price stability in its top exports, effectively shielding it from plunging commodity prices.

Kenya’s economy made significant strides jumping up 21 places to be ranked 92 out of 190 countries surveyed in the 2016 World bank ease of doing business report. Based on the progress, Kenya was rated the third most improved economy, a sign that a raft of business reforms initiated by the government may be paying off. The World Bank has further projected Kenya's economy to grow by 5.9 percent in 2016 The International Monetary Fund – IMF has however revised its growth projection for Kenya's economy to 6.8 per cent, down from the initial figure of 7.2 per cent, owing to the prevailing harsh economic conditions. As Zawadi Mudibo reports, more questions than answers abound on whether or not the said economic growth has had a positive impact on the incomes of Kenyan households and the small an...

Through the introduction of community currencies like Lindi Pesa, the business community in Nairobi's poor neighborhoods are redesigning money to make it flow around the local economy more effectively. The brilliance of such currencies lies in the way they enable financial inclusion; how they bring very small businesses into the main economic system which they would otherwise not engage in.

Talks to end a crippling strike by doctors and nurses in East Africa's biggest economy are still deadlocked. Kenya had just under 9,700 doctors by the end of 2015. The latest dispute has been triggered by the non-implementation of a deal on wages, and working conditions agreed with the government in 2011. In early October, the Employment and Labour Relations Court ruled that Kenya's Health Ministry had deliberately not implemented the agreement. Health department officials had tried to claim the deal had been signed by a party that wasn't authorised to do so. At the time, however, that person was the ministry's top civil servant. Between 2013 and 2015, over 2000 doctors left the public sector and went into private practice. The loss of talent continues.CCTV's Ramah Nyang' spoke to Dr Jacqu...
Kenyas healthcare is in a deep crisis. From fake drugs, professional negligence by medics to lack of facilities, the poor are the most affected as the cost of healthcare continues to skyrocket. To compound the problem further, about 40 per cent of the population—accounting for about 15 million people — purchase medication over the counter without any form of medical advice. And the tragedy is that many of the counterfeit drugs and generics often contain cement, chalk, sawdust, paint and an array of other toxic or inert substances that cause more harm rather than restore the health of the sick. Although most of the drugs are imported from Kenyas key source markets for generic drugs in India and China, Africa bears the brunt as 700,000 deaths are reported on the continent resulting from i...

Every year in Kenya, tens of thousands of women are hospitalized with complications from unsafe abortion. As grim as the numbers are, they do not capture the number of women killed or disabled by unsafe abortions who never visit a health facility or whose cause of death is not recorded. These incidents are entirely — and easily — preventable, yet the Kenyan government has done little to address the problem. But there's a way we can help, and all it takes is starting a conversation. Watch our video and learn how you can change the odds for women in Kenya.

Kenyan forces fighting in Southern Somalia say they need reinforcements. They've helped drive back the militant Al-Shabaab group from several major towns. However the terrorists continue to raid and to recruit. CCTV's Mohamed Hirmoge filed this report.
The Kenya defence forces soldiers this morning foiled an attack by over 100 Al-Shabaab militiamen, killing 16 fighters. The millitiamen had attempted to attack a KDF camp at Baure in Lamu County near Kenya’s border with Somalia. Soldiers killed 11 militiamen at the scene, including two militiamen of Caucasian origin, and five others during the battle that ensued into late morning as they pursued them into Boni Forest where they fled. Two Kenyan soldiers were, however, killed in the attack, which took place at about 5.45am.
Kenya received six military choppers from the united states government to bolster the war against terror. The new choppers, Bell-U-H2, are among eight others that will be the latest addition to the Kenya airforce fleet. The choppers that were acquired at a cost of eleven billion shillings have been designed for combat, troops deployment and rescue operation as Yusuf Ibrahim reports.

For the first time members of Kenya’s counter-terrorism police admit to “eliminating” suspected Muslim radicals. Speaking exclusively to Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit, officers from four units of Kenya’s counter-terrorism apparatus admitted the police assassinate suspects on government orders. They claim that the order to assassinate is made by the National Security Council, a body chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and his counterpart from Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday pledged unity with Kenya in the war against terror. The two leaders came to this agreement and condemned the recent attack on Kenyan soldiers in Somalia when they attended the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) memorial at Moi Barracks in Eldoret in Western Kenya.
This is the video of terrorist group al shabab’s attack on the AMISOM/UN peacekeeping base in Kulbiyow, Somalia 27 January 2017. The base was completely overrun and 57 or more Kenyan soldiers were killed. Full details of the battle @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kulbiyow There is no logical reason why this terrorist group is free to operate and has not been slaughtered apart from the international communities lack of interest and United Nations incompetence, as usual. And in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kenya. If I asked what's the first thing you think about when turning your mind to travel in this colourful East African country, you'd almost certainly say wildlife. And of course you'd be right as over 80 percent of holidays here will have a wildlife element. From the Marsabit National Park in the north, to the Masai Mara and Amboseli National Parks in the south, the planes of Kenya are teeming with wildlife or all shapes and sizes offering, along with its neighbour Tanzania, the best place in the world to view game. Kenya, with its numerous natural wonders gives a tourist the joy of a seaside holiday and the thrills of a safari. One can sit in the shade of a palm tree and swim in the emerald green water of the Indian Ocean, which runs out to the white, sandy beaches. We can take a look at Mombasa, most important port of Eastern Africa, the city of the Tusk Gate and the Jesus Fort. How about a typical African safari to Tsavo? Naturally, in the meantime we can meet elephants, lions, giraffes and dolphins. We can marvel at the 13th century city of Gedi. We can take a boat trip among the coral reefs of the sea national parks, or be amazed by the war dance of the Masai people, and can have a dinner at a coral cave.

Travel video about destination Nairobi in Kenya. Nairobi is Kenya's busy, expensive yet dangerous capital city. It is also both fascinating and modern. Nairobi is the country's most important and beautiful city and with the finest temperate climate between Johannesburg and Cairo, is located at an altitude of almost 1,700 metres above sea level. The government district of City Square contains the Conference Centre and the Kanu Tower, the headquarters of government and the city's tallest building. Canons guard the main entrance to the National Museum that is situated on Museum Hill, a fascinating building that covers much of Kenya's culture and history. The museum provides an interesting insight into Pre-history as well as to various cultures and the country's flora and fauna. Directly i...

I had one major goal before embarking on this journey: to capture the quintessential African, sun filling frame, Lion King-esque sunset. I will never forget that third evening in Masaai Mara, Mike Gaudaur speeding along the dirt trails in the luxurious yet rugged Prado chasing the sunset as we climbed to a hilltop. At 400mm, with a bean bag stabilizing the largest lens I've ever strapped to my camera, my heart raced and my hands shook in pure excitement. It was perfection. Definitely top 5 most specifically memorable experiences of my life - and the opening clip of this video. Few words describe the truly inspiring experiences in Kenya this summer. I was fortunate to be travelling with friend and classmate, Elise Watson, who had a healthy appetite for exploration and travel. I was also fo...

This is a journey into Kenya’s origins and its uncertain future. We travel along the colony’s iron foundations, the railway lines laid by the British imperialists as they raced to create a passage to Lake Victoria from Mombasa. 120 years later, the same railway is enjoyed by tourists seeking a taste of the vintage African safari, with luxury 1st-class carriages and pressed napkins. To either side of their trammelled way lie the gleaming metropolis of Nairobi, the rolling ranchers’ pastures and the sprawling slums of Kibera. Shot on SD and 8mm film, this film takes the viewer on an experiential journey through different periods of history and levels of society: we are welcomed by a demented Mau Mau veteran, carefully set on our way by a railway tourist guide, and bade farewell in true Momb...

He even studied in Ireland, where he earned a degree at St. Patrick College and advised missionaries preparing for Africa. What does Hoti particularly look forward to sharing with his travelers? Kenya launches multi-billion dollar railway amid concerns over costs Kenya has unveiled its first new railway in a century. The first section of the multi-billion dollar project is now operational after two and a half years of construction. The route will eventually connect Kenya to several of its neighbours and is the country's biggest infrastructure project since independence in 1963. But the China-backed project has been surrounded by allegations of corruption, high cost of construction and environmental threats.
