Nicaragua (i/ˌnɪkəˈrɑːɡwəˌ -ˈræ-ˌ -ɡjuə/; Spanish: [nikaˈɾaɣwa]), officially the Republic of Nicaragua (Spanish: República de Nicaragua ), is the largest country in the Central American isthmus. The population of Nicaragua is slightly over 6 million. Nicaragua's capital, Managua, is the third-largest city in Central America. The multi-ethnic population includes indigenous peoples, Europeans, Africans, Asians, and people of Middle Eastern origin. The main language is Spanish. Native tribes on the eastern coast speak their own languages.
The Spanish Empire conquered the region in the 16th century. Nicaragua gained independence from Spain in 1821. Since its independence, Nicaragua has undergone periods of political unrest, dictatorship, and fiscal crisis—the most notable causes that led to the Nicaraguan Revolution of the 1960s and 1970s. Nicaragua is a representative democratic republic.
The mixture of cultural traditions has generated substantial diversity in art and literature, particularly the latter given the literary contributions of Nicaraguan poets and writers, including Rubén Darío, Pablo Antonio Cuadra and Ernesto Cardenal. The biological diversity, warm tropical climate and active volcanoes make Nicaragua an increasingly popular tourist destination.

Pro surfers with an heavy competition schedule use their free time to relax at home, or travel and discover new places. Featured here is Marc Lacomare, gambling with mother nature to find waves in Nicaragua, before heading to California to compete at the US Open of surfing. On his journeys around the world, he has the privilege to experience some local culture, and that one day, looking for food, some music and screams attracted our curiosity that led us to witness some underground cockfights. Episode 3 of 4. Costa Rica is a country of hotels and resorts. We went to the northwestern province of Guanacaste and arrived at our third destination: Tamarindo. Our experience here was quite different to San Juan del Sur because only a few of the original locals still live in town. Its population is only 500 and most of them are foreigners. Because it is a place of resorts and hotels, it is designed to take in vast amounts of tourists. During high season, Tamarindo can accommodate around 5,000 people. There is no trace of Costa Rican culture. The infrastructure is completely of American style, and downtown is full of shopping malls. There competitive advantage is surfing lessons, and hence the beach is packed with people trying to get their first wave. Street vendors are mainly Nicaragua...

Collegiate Students on Mission travelled to Nicaragua for the second time this May to work with the community of Mateare once again. While there, we were blessed to see spiritual growth from the previous trip, share the Gospel with hundreds of people, teach in the local high school, deliver food boxes to needy families and much, much more. This trip would not have been possible without the large amount of help we received, both financially and spiritually. To those who aided us through money or prayer, thank you. Thank you for responding to God's call to give and serve. God used you on this trip in a huge way. We are so excited to return to Mateare again next year! This is our story--12 Public Health Brigadiers from the University of South Florida Chapter of Global Brigades arrive in Nicaragua, eager to meet the community that we came to help. In the rural areas of Nicaragua, where agriculture is a primary source of income, there exist people that do not have access to the basic commodities that we too often take for granted; people do not have a sink, a shower or a toilet. Turning on your faucet for running water translates to walking down to the nearest well, filling up several buckets of water and carrying them back up the hill. We learned a lot about these people, as they learned a lot about us. We created two latrines, sinks, showers, septic tanks and concrete floors for two families. We participated in a Public Health project in Nicaragua. We m...

November 9, 2012 www.LifeofBrennan.com There are moments in life when you just need to be bold and follow your heart. For me it came just before the end of my sophomore year of college. I realized I was on a path where I’d most likely graduate, get a job, start a family, and work until retirement, and where many people may aspire to have all this, I knew I needed something different. With the help of a cousin I was able to get connected with an orphanage in Guatemala where I could volunteer. So I took a semester off and flew to Central America to begin what would be a life changing experience. I once heard that life is 10 percent of what happens to us and 90 percent of how we react to it, and by being immersed in that culture and living with those children I learned this lesson first...
P.I.E.C.E.S is a student-driven social initiative focusing on children’s education in developing countries, with the goal of creating significant opportunities for their future. www.thepieces.org ___________________________________________________________________________ P.I.E.C.E.S was founded in 2009 by students of the University of St. Gallen within the SIM Master’s program. The SIM (Strategy and International Management) has as part of its curriculum the requirement that its students get involved in a social project. This is how a first group of three students went to Isla Ometepe in Nicaragua to teach as volunteers for the very first time. It was a successful experience and the team decided to keep it going and turn this one time project into an organisation, P.I.E.C.E.S, that wo...
The Crow family helps us out by delivering our announcements this week! This summer, our high school students had the awesome opportunity to travel to Nicaragua, Ecuador and Minnesota on missions trips as they served and shared the gospel. Join the missions teams next Sunday, August 9, to hear about everything God did during their travels. The update will be in Fellowship Hall following the 11 a.m. service next week, and includes lunch when you RSVP. We can’t believe it’s already that time, but summer is winding down and we’re gearing up for our fall kick off on Sunday, August 16. All our classes for kids, students and adults will return that week, including the Gospel Project for elementary kids, groups for middle and high school students, and a great line up of classes for adults. Adu...

A Solo-Traveler's Guide To: Central America is the 2nd episode to my travel series. With a clearer vision, this video is a little more polished than the first one but still has the wondrous feel of the first one. This episode guides you through five intense weeks in Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. While this episode does not cover the whole of Central America it covers a good amount for a 5 week journey using planes, buses, ferries, pickups, trucks and hitchhiking, and even horses. I don't give a fuck about nicaragua
I don't give a shit about the President
I don't care about suburban white kids
Trying to show they've got compassion
Politics are boring
Politics are fucking boring
Philosophizing propoganda spewing
Teenage armchair revolutionaries
What's the problem? What's the matter?
You're sitting there getting fatter
You say that you hate capitalism
And won't you compromise
But when you're out of cigarettes
THE FUNNY THING IS YOUR BUTT'S FULL OF JIZZ
You pompous ass your moral outrage
Gives me a fucking headache
Closed your mind got all the answers
Don't even realize you're an asshole
If you had any brains I guess you'd see
You're a narrow minded judgemental left wing nazi
