Cambridgeshire (/ˈkeɪmbrɪdʒʃər/ or /ˈkeɪmbrɪdʒʃɪər/; abbreviated Cambs.) is an East Anglian county in England, bordering Lincolnshire to the north, Norfolk to the north-east, Suffolk to the east, Essex and Hertfordshire to the south, and Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire to the west. The city of Cambridge is the county town. Modern Cambridgeshire was formed in 1974 as an amalgamation of the counties of Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely and Huntingdon and Peterborough, which had been created in 1965 from the historic counties of Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, the Isle of Ely and the Soke of Peterborough. It contains most of the region known as Silicon Fen.
Cambridgeshire is noted as the site of Flag Fen in Fengate, one of the earliest-known Neolithic permanent settlements in the United Kingdom, compared in importance to Balbridie in Aberdeen, Scotland. A great quantity of archaeological finds from the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age were made in East Cambridgeshire. Most items were found in Isleham.

Escape to the Country is a British daytime television programme which premieres on network BBC One and is repeated on BBC Two, and airs internationally in syndication.
There are two versions of each episode produced. A shorter 45-minute version with only 3 houses shown and a longer 60-minute version. The short version usually airs on BBC Two weekday afternoons (in the 15:00, 15:45 or 17:15 slots) and the longer on BBC One weekdays at 10:00 or BBC Two evenings at 19:00. Escape to the Country is often credited as being the forerunner of other shows such as A Place in the Sun. Repeat episodes are shown on Home.
Produced by Boundless, part of FremantleMedia UK and shown to air from 2002, the basic premise of the show is that a person/family wishes to relocate from their current city home to a more peaceful and rural retreat. It is then the job of the show's presenter to find four houses for the family to view via laptop computer in their own homes. The family must then choose two out of the four houses to go and view for themselves. In addition, there is also the option of choosing the presenter's 'mystery house'.

The city of Cambridge is a university city and the county town of Cambridgeshire, England. It lies in East Anglia, on the River Cam, about 50 miles north of London. According to the United Kingdom Census 2011, its population was 123,867 (including 24,488 students). This makes Cambridge the second largest city in Cambridgeshire after Peterborough, and the 54th largest in the United Kingdom. There is archaeological evidence of settlement in the area during the Bronze Age and Roman times; under Viking rule Cambridge became an important trading centre. The first town charters were granted in the 12th century, although city status was not conferred until 1951. Source: Wikipedia

Just when you think you've seen everything in the transportation world, you encounter something different. That happened to me on an infrastructure tour in Cambridge, England, when my guides showed be this guided busway. The video only shows a short segment of The Busway, but it's fascinating. The wheels of the bus run between grooved concrete slabs along an old rail line. The system also handles drainage without burdening the sewers: Stormwater is absorbed by the ground. At 16 miles, the Cambridge guided busway is the longest one in the world. Bus speeds can reach up to 55 mph. A busy biking and walking path runs right next to the route. You won't find railings separating the busway from the trail. There's no honking or flashing lights like you would find in the USA -- just common sens...
Chatteris is located in the fenlands of Cambridgeshire - a historic town that was once by the sea, although the sea has now retreated more than 100km from here. Chatteris is reputed to have been the last refuge of Boudica as she fled from the Romans. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 although settlements have been here since at least the Neolithic period. As with many medieval villages, fires took their toll and what one sees today is largely from the nineteenth century with the tower of the parish church the only medieval building remaining. Following the draining of the Fens, beginning in the 17th century and completed in the 19th century, the town's economy has been based on agriculture and related industry. Due to its proximity to Cambridge, Huntingdon and Peterboroug...

Take a walk through the historic city centre of Cambridge, visiting several of the colleges of Cambridge University, including the famous chapel at King's College, Great Gate at Trinity College, and the red-brick St. John's College. Also we stop off at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of only 4 surviving medieval round churches in England. Originally built in the year 1130, it's probably one of the oldest buildings in Cambridge. The historic city centre covers quite a small area, but it is packed with all manner of historic buildings and other interesting features. In fact, to see everything I've shown you in this video requires a walk of only about 2km, or about a mile and a quarter. There is plenty more available than I could cover during a limited amount of filming time. At some t...
