Ujiji
Ujiji is the oldest town in western Tanzania, located about 6 miles (10 km) south of Kigoma. In 1900, the population was estimated at 10,000 and in 1967 about 4,100. Part of the Kigoma/Ujiji urban area, the regional population was about 50,000 in 1978.
Ujiji is the place where Richard Burton and John Speke first reached the shore of Lake Tanganyika in 1858. It is the site of the famous meeting on 10 November 1871 when Henry Stanley found Dr. David Livingstone, and reputedly uttered the famous words “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” Livingstone, whom many thought dead as no news had been heard of him for several years and who had only arrived back in Ujiji the day before, wrote “When my spirits were at their lowest ebb, the good Samaritan was close at hand, for one morning [my servant] Susi came running at the top of his speed and gasped out, ‘An Englishman! I see him!’ and off he darted to meet him. The American flag at the head of the caravan told of the nationality of the stranger. Bales of goods, baths of tin, huge kettles, cooking pots, tents, etc., made me think, ‘This must be a luxurious traveller, and not one at his wits’ end like me.’”

XD) Mein Schatz und ich waren im Frühling 2014 in Japan unterwegs, wir hatten schon lange vor, daraus ein Reisetagebuch zu machen! :D Hier ist Part 14:) Nach der Besichtigung des Zentrums von Kyôto ging es in die Nachbarstadt Uji. In den frühen Morgenstunden beobachteten wir den Aufbau des Nishiki Market, trafen Stefanie und Karla Kolumna - danach gab es eine Führung durch den alten Kaiserpalast (White Shiny Floor!), wo wir von Gollum, deutschen Opas, posenden Midlife-Crises-Damen und einem italienischen Pärchen genervt wurden, aber einen wunderbaren Eindruck vom antiken japanischen Kaiserhof bekamen. ARUSHA TO KIGOMA, 1051 KM ROAD EXPEDITION IN ONLY HOURS.
Among tangible infrastructural developments that Tanzania may be allowed to boast about, include improvements on road networks. Let me show you how it looks like and what it means to travel a journey of about 1051 Kilometers from Arusha to Kigoma passing through 8 regions. This journey would normally take us about 3 days but this time round it has taken us only hours. Credit to our top men and women who are working tirelessly to bring our nation up to speed. Hier ist Part 14:)
Nach der Besichtigung des Zentrums von Kyôto ging es in die Nachbarstadt Uji.
In den frühen Morgenstunden beobachteten wir den Aufbau des Nishiki Market, trafen Stefanie und Karla Kolumna - danach gab es eine Führung durch den alten Kaiserpalast (White Shiny Floor!), wo wir von Gollum, deutschen Opas, posenden Midlife-Crises-Damen und einem italienischen Pärchen genervt wurden, aber einen wunderbaren Eindruck vom antiken japanischen Kaiserhof bekamen. Nach einem Abstecher zu den hunderten Buddhastatuen des Sanjusangen-do ging es unter musikalischer Begleitung der dortigen High School nach Uji, wo wir die Phoenixhalle des Byodo-in und das Genji Monogatari Museum (für Japanologen ein MUSS) auf der anderen Seite der massiven Uji Bridge besichtigten - abgerundet durch fette Burger und fette Karaoke Beats! Ein toller Tag :)
