The two-week winter session of the Maharashtra legislature begins today in Nagpur. Battle lines have been drawn between the ruling Congress-NCP government and opposition parties. The Shiv Sena has already moved a nconfidence motion against the Prithviraj Chavan-led Democratic Front govt. The Bharatiya Janata Party has said it would not allow proceedings in both Houses till the govt sets up a special investigation team to probe the irrigation scam. BJP is targeting NCP leader Ajit Pawar for his alleged involvement in the irrigation scam. Ajit Pawar was re-inducted this week as deputy chief minister.

Nagpur is the largest city in central India & the winter capital of the state of Maharashtra. It is a fast-growing metropolis and the third largest city in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune and third most industrialized city after Mumbai and Pune. With a population of 2,405,421 (2011 census figures) Nagpur Metropolitan Area is the 13th largest urban agglomeration in India. According to a survey by ABP News-Ipsos, Nagpur has been identified as the best city in India by topping the liveability, greenery, public transport, and health care indices.
Nagpur is the seat of the annual winter session of the Maharashtra state assembly, "Vidhan Sabha". Nagpur is a major commercial and political center of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. In addition, the city derives political importance from being the headquarters for the Hindu nationalist organisation RSS and an important location for the Dalit Buddhist movement.
It is famous for the Nagpur Orange and is known as the "Orange City" for being a major trade center of oranges cultivated in the region.
The city was founded by the Gonds and later became a part of the Maratha Empire under the Bhonsles. The British East India Company took over Nagpur in the 19th century and made it the capital of the Central Provinces and Berar. After the first reorganisation of states, the city lost its status as the capital. Following the informal "Nagpur Pact" between political leaders, it was made the second capital of Maharashtra.
Nagpur is also called the "Tiger Capital of India" as it connects many tiger reserves in India to the world. It is among the important cities for the Information Technology sector in Maharashtra. Nagpur lies at the dead center of the country with the Zero Mile marker indicating the geographical center of India.

Maharashtra
Maharashtra (/mɑːhəˈrɑːʃtrə/; Marathi pronunciation: locally: [məharaːʂʈrə], abbr. MH) is a state in the western region of India and is the nation's third largest state by area and is also the world's second-most populous sub-national entity. It has over 110 million inhabitants and its capital, Mumbai, has a population of approximately 18 million. Nagpur serves as second capital as well as winter capital of the state. Maharashtra's business opportunities along with its potential to offer a higher standard of living attract migrants from all over India.
Ancient and medieval Maharashtra included the empires of the Satavahana dynasty, Rashtrakuta dynasty, Western Chalukyas, Mughals and Marathas. Spread over 118,809 sq mi (307,710 km2), it is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west and the Indian states of Karnataka, Telangana, Goa, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The major rivers of the state are Godavari, Krishna, Narmada and Tapi. The state has several tourist destinations including the popular Hindu places of pilgrimage, Pandharpur, Dehu and Alandi. Other places that attract pilgrims from other parts of India and beyond include Hazur Sahib Gurudwara at Nanded, and Sai Baba shrine at Shirdi. Maharashtra is the second most urbanised state in India, after Tamil Nadu, with large cities besides the capital Mumbai such as Pune, Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad.

The Shiv Sena has already moved a nconfidence motion against the Prithviraj Chavan-led Democratic Front govt. The Bharatiya Janata Party has said it would not allow proceedings in both Houses till the govt sets up a special investigation team to probe the irrigation scam. BJP is targeting NCP leader Ajit Pawar for his alleged involvement in the irrigation scam. Ajit Pawar was re-inducted this week as deputy chief minister.

Panchgavya or more commonly Panchagavya or cowpathy is a treatment based on products obtained from cows used in Ayurvedic medicine and of religious significance for Hindus. It is made up of five cow products; milk, curd, ghee, urine and dung. Panchgavya is also used as fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural operations.
The medicinal usage of Panchgavya particularly cow urine is practiced in Ayurveda. Although some Indian doctors view the medicines as eccentric, proponents claim that cow urine therapy is capable of curing several diseases, including certain types of cancer.
The Hindu nationalist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh developed a beverage called Gauloka Peya which translates as "drink from the land of cow" that incorporates distilled and sterile cow urine mixed with water and traditional Indian herbs and medicinal plants such as Brahmi and basil in a 1-to-7 ratio, claimed by the manufacturers to have medicinal properties.
