Wheel

A wheel is a circular component that is intended to rotate on an axle bearing. The wheel is one of the main components of the wheel and axle which is one of the six simple machines. Wheels, in conjunction with axles, allow heavy objects to be moved easily facilitating movement or transportation while supporting a load, or performing labor in machines. Wheels are also used for other purposes, such as a ship's wheel, steering wheel, potter's wheel and flywheel.

Common examples are found in transport applications. A wheel greatly reduces friction by facilitating motion by rolling together with the use of axles. In order for wheels to rotate, a moment needs to be applied to the wheel about its axis, either by way of gravity, or by the application of another external force or torque.

Etymology

The English word wheel comes from the Old English word hweol, hweogol, from Proto-Germanic *hwehwlan, *hwegwlan, from Proto-Indo-European *k^wek^wlo-, an extended form of the root *k^wel- "to revolve, move around". Cognates within Indo-European include Icelandic hjól "wheel, tyre", Greek κύκλος kúklos, and Sanskrit chakra, the latter both meaning "circle" or "wheel".

Hot Wheels

Hot Wheels is a brand of 1:64, 1:43, 1:18 and 1:50 scale die-cast toy cars introduced by American toy maker Mattel in 1968. It was the primary competitor of Matchbox until 1997 when Mattel bought Tyco Toys, then-owner of Matchbox. Many automobile manufacturers have licensed Hot Wheels to make scale models of their cars, allowing the use of original design blueprints and detailing. Although Hot Wheels were originally intended for children and young adults, they have become popular with adult collectors, for whom limited edition models are now made available.

History

1968

Hot Wheels were conceived to be more like "tricked out" cars as compared to Matchbox cars which were more city or "real life" cars. There were sixteen castings released in 1968, eleven of them designed by Harry Bentley Bradley. The first one produced was a dark blue Custom Camaro. Bradley was from the car industry and had designed the body for the (full-sized) Dodge Deora concept car and the Custom Fleetside, (based on his own customized 1968 Chevrolet C-10 Fleetside).

Nursery rhyme

A nursery rhyme is a traditional poem or song for young children in Britain and many other countries, but usage only dates from the late 18th /early 19th century. In North America the term Mother Goose Rhymes, introduced in the mid-18th century, is still often used.

History

Lullabies

The oldest children's songs of which we have records are lullabies, intended to help a child sleep. Lullabies can be found in every human culture. The English term lullaby is thought to come from "lu, lu" or "la la" sound made by mothers or nurses to calm children, and "by by" or "bye bye", either another lulling sound, or a term for good night. Until the modern era lullabies were usually only recorded incidentally in written sources. The Roman nurses' lullaby, "Lalla, Lalla, Lalla, aut dormi, aut lacta", is recorded in a scholium on Persius and may be the oldest to survive.

Many medieval English verses associated with the birth of Jesus take the form of a lullaby, including "Lullay, my liking, my dere son, my sweting" and may be versions of contemporary lullabies. However, most of those used today date from the 17th century. For example, a well known lullaby such as "Rock-a-bye, baby on a tree top", cannot be found in records until the late-18th century when it was printed by John Newbery (c. 1765).

Musique : Robert Le Magnifique - Nina - Oh Yeah Baby ... « Wait & See » est l’aboutissement d’un travail de photographie et de graphisme élaboré en 2009 par Yannis Varoutsikos et Yohan Colin , entre Paris et Biarritz. Notre projet s’est construit autour du thème « le pignon fixe » , un vélo utilisé en piste dont la fonction première a été détournée par les coursiers , puis par une population issue de la Street Culture ainsi que par la mode. La principale fonction d’une bicyclette est de nous amener d’un point A à un point B. Nous nous sommes donc intéressés à l’équation : cycliste / vélo /itinéraire. Ainsi le choix de nos sujets s’est porté sur la diversité des pratiques des riders avec leur Fixie (aller au travail, partir en ballade, faire une course, faire du sport, un nouveau deux roues dans leur collection...) Ce projet se répartit en différents pôles : Photographisme : (graphisme sur photo) Yannis Varoutsikos & Yohan Colin Des clichés grand format en noir et blanc mettent en évidence l’importance de l’objet « Fixie » et la passion qu’il inspire à son propriétaire. In Europe, the winter can seem unending, the time of year when we are consigned to dwell interminably in our garages, neon lights may be bright but they can never truly replicate sunlight... But there is a cure, we have been planning an end of winter trip to the Basque country since last summer with our friend Fede at Loser Machine and Bixente, a ride for a Wheels and Waves 2013 reunion. A band of brothers, 20 in all. However with the unpredictable seasonal conditions we are taking a gamble, but still we have ploughed through all conditions before and shall do again. The ride is a total of 240km, and we are planning it for June, so it should be perfect riding : A combination of beautiful nature and a rare countryside found in these traditional lands, far from the polluted towns and cities that so many of us are forced to call home. Mountains are found in abundance as are the twists on the long empty stretches of road, which are themselves much like racing circuits, in short, a dreamlike wonderland. Anybody who loves bikes will get that longed for Endorphin rush and a heavenly bike connection. _____________________________________ L'hiver est long en Europe, la période ou nous restons calfeutrés dans nos garages parait interminable, les néons ne remplaceront jamais le soleil... Nous avions cependant planifié à la fin de l'été dernier avec nôtre ami Fede de Loser Machine et Bixente, un ride au pays Basque à la fin de l'hiver, ayant pour but de faire un repérage pour Wheels & Waves 2013. Nous avons réuni un groupe d'amis, une vingtaine au total, les conditions météos étant difficilement prévisibles en cette saisonnous prenions un certain risque, nous avons rencontré à peu près tout ce que l'on peut imaginer en matière de météo. le ride de 240Km que nous allons vous proposer en Juin est quasiment parfait à mes yeux, beaucoup de nature, peu d'agglomérations,de la montagne, des virages par milliers, des route côtières semblables à des circuits, bref un terrain de jeu sensationnel ou chacun trouvera l'endorphine vitale, la justification même de la moto.
