Alloa Athletic 1 – 1 Arbroath (Arbroath win 6-5 on penalties)

Blair Yule

Arbroath won a penalty shoot out tonight against Alloa Athletic to secure 2 points in Betfred Group D.

Arbroath had led for much of the game thanks to a brilliant Blair Yule header in the 16th minute after he connected to a David Gold cross.

However the Lichties seemed to tire in the second half and Alloa equalised in the 89th minute through Frank McKeown.

This forced the game into a penalty shoot out for a bonus point.

Doris, Whatley, Yule, Hester, Little and Gold scored from the spot with Malin hitting the bar and Ricky Gomes saving from Renton and Grant to give the Lichties 2 points

A special mention has to go out to our Goalkeeper Ricky Gomes who despite taking a heavy facial knock late in the second half went on to be our penalty shoot out star saving two penalties to give Arbroath the bonus point against Alloa Athletic.

Hill of Beath Hawthorn JFC 0 – 1 Arbroath

Hill of Beath

The Lichties overcame a resilient Hill of Beath Hawthorn JFC at a very wet Keirs Park earlier this afternoon thanks to an Omar Kader goal.

Substitute Bobby Linn broke launching a through ball for Steven Doris who raced towards goal before passing the ball across goal for Kader to slot home.

Steven Doris – Man of the Match

Steven Doris - Man of the Match

Striker Steven Doris was voted Arbroath’s Man of the Match yesterday for his performance against Bolton Wanderers.   It was the second game in a row that Steven netted a penalty kick and another game where he gave his all up front.

Steven is pictured with Arbroath Secretary Dr Gary Callon who presented him with a bottle of wine.

Arbroath vs Bolton Wanderers Mascot

Charlie

Our mascot for the match against Bolton Wanderers was 9 year old Charlie Layton!

Charlie plays for the Arbroath Lads Club and attends Hayshead Primary School and his favourite Lichtie is Bobby Linn!

We hope Charlie had an amazing time and his family enjoyed the game!

Angus Nairn

Angus Nairn

Arbroath FC would like to wish Angus Nairn a speedy recovery.

Angus who is 82 years old is a life long Lichtie and season ticket holder and he normally sits just next to the Directors area with his friend Dave Ramsay.

Angus hasn’t been feeling too well lately but has been determined to get out and support the Lichties, so special measures have been put in place to help Angus get a prime spot to watch the games.

Here is Angus at last night’s match against Bolton Wanderers in high spirits with Arbroath Chairman Mike Caird, Dave Ramsay and Facilities and Kit Manager Louise Walker.

Tonight is the end of season dinner for the Arbroath Chest Heart and Stoke Association at the Meadowbank, and Angus has received a letter from the Head Office CHS Scotland, commending him on the work he has done for the Thursday Club.

We hope Angus and Dave enjoyed the match and hope Angus is back to full health very soon!

Jamie Henry

Jamie Henry

New Signing – Jamie Henry

Arbroath are delighted to announce that Jamie Henry has signed for the club after tonight’s match.

Jamie will be a familiar face to the Lichties as he had a loan spell with us from Aberdeen in early 2016 but it was cut short by injury.

Jamie came through the youth ranks at Aberdeen and was in Paul Sheerin’s team, captaining the side on many occasions but was released in the summer with former Lichtie Robbie Mutch, who has signed for Falkirk.

Jamie is only 20 and has shown his versatility over the past 3 games playing at right back and in midfield and even in the closing stages of tonight’s match playing in central defence. Jamie has shown his hunger and desire in all 3 matches and will be another important player this season.

We would like to welcome Jamie to Arbroath FC

C’mon the Lichties

Jonny O’Mara

unnamed (1) unnamedArbroath Tennis player Jonny O’Mara was representing the Lichties at the All England Club last week as he and his doubles partner Scott Clayton made it into the 2nd round of the Gentleman’s Doubles.

Jonny (22) and Scott (23) from Jersey were making their Wimbledon senior debuts and made it into Round 2.

They were beaten 3-6, 4-6, 4-6 by top seeds Henri Kontimen and John Peers but it was a fantastic achievement by both young players and we are sure we will see Jonny back at Wimbledon again soon.

Congratulations Jonny!
