Naomi Campbell makes a rare catwalk appearance at Couture Week

At Haute Couture week in Paris, a five-day extravaganza where designers showcase their most exquisite and painstakingly created pieces, there's little need for a grounding in reality.

Not when Karl Lagerfeld can have a model replica of the Eiffel Tower built inside the Grand Palais for the Chanel show or Azzedine Alaïa can make a triumphant return to the circuit after a six-year hiatus by sending Naomi Campbell down the catwalk in a fur coat and teetering crown of plastic-wrapped hair.

The fantasy was felt at the Valentino show where hot pink capes added a welcome touch of drama; at Fendi, too, where explosions of floral applique, lace and felt added texture. Meanwhile John Galliano played with glamour with voluminous re-imagining of the classic trench coat at Maison Margiela.

Prettiness was a constant theme throughout the week too, with dreamy tulle confections at Giambattista Valli and froths of feathers at Zuhair Murad.

Perhaps the highlight of the week however was the presence of pop diva Celine Dion, the recently anointed fashion icon of 2017 who whooped with delight at the Giambattista Valli show from her plum front row seat next to American Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Other celebrities sitting on the front row included Katy Perry, Tilda Swinton and Jennifer Lawrence.
