The Temptations are an American vocal group known for their success with Motown Records during the 1960s and 1970s. Known for their choreography, distinct harmonies, and flashy wardrobe, the group was highly influential to the evolution of R&B and soul music. Having sold tens of millions of albums, the Temptations are one of the most successful groups in music history. As of 2015, the Temptations continue to perform with one living original member, Otis Williams, still in the lineup.
Featuring five male vocalists and dancers (save for brief periods with less or more members), the group formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan under the name "The Elgins". The original founding members were originally members of two rival Detroit vocal groups: Otis Williams, Elbridge "Al" Bryant, and Melvin Franklin of Otis Williams & the Distants, and Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams of the Primes. In 1964, Bryant was replaced by David Ruffin, who was the lead vocalist on a number of the group's biggest hits, including "My Girl" (1964), "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (1966), and "I Wish It Would Rain" (1967). Ruffin was replaced in 1968 by Dennis Edwards, with whom the group continued to record hit records such as "Cloud Nine" (1969) and "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World is Today)" (1970). The group's lineup has changed frequently since the departures of Kendricks and Paul Williams from the act in 1971. Later members of the group have included singers such as Richard Street, Damon Harris, Ron Tyson, and Ali-Ollie Woodson, with whom the group scored a late-period hit in 1984 with "Treat Her Like a Lady".

"You Do" is a McAlmont and Butler single, released in November 1995 and part of their debut album The Sound Of... McAlmont & Butler. The single charted at number 17 on the UK singles chart.
"I Wish It Would Rain" is a 1967 song recorded by the Temptations for the Motown label (under the "Gordy" imprint) and produced by Norman Whitfield.
The song is one of the most melancholy in the Temptations repertoire, with lead singer David Ruffin delivering, in a pained voice, the story of a heartbroken man who wants to hide his sorrow. His woman has just left him, and he wishes that it would start raining, to hide the tears falling down his face because "a man ain't supposed to cry". Accompanying Ruffin's mourning vocal are the vocals his bandmates Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, and Otis Williams, the subdued instrumentation of The Funk Brothers studio band, and, courtesy of Whitfield, sound effects depicting the "sunshine and blue skies", with the sound of chirping seagulls, and the sound of thunder and rain described in the song. Producer Norman Whitfield devised much of the musical structure of the song, with former Motown artist Barrett Strong composing the song's signature piano intro on a piano with only ten working keys. Motown staff writer Roger Penzabene provided the song's lyrics.
"Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" is a song by American soul group The Temptations. Released on the Gordy (Motown) label, and produced by Norman Whitfield, it features on the group's 1971 album, Sky's the Limit. When released as a single, "Just My Imagination" became the third Temptations song to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single held the number one position on the Billboard Pop Singles Chart for two weeks in 1971, from March 27 to April 10. "Just My Imagination" also held the number-one spot on the Billboard R&B Singles chart for three weeks, from February 27 to March 20 of that year.
Today, "Just My Imagination" is considered one of the Temptations' signature songs, and is notable for recalling the sound of the group's 1960s recordings. It is also the final Temptations single to feature founding members Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams. During the process of recording and releasing the single, Kendricks left the group to begin a solo career, while the ailing Williams was forced to retire from the act for health reasons. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine listed "Just My Imagination" as number 389 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Feel free to follow me on instagram.. name is 'gfunco' Was just jammin to this with some friends today in the car... The Temptations -- Just my Imagination - a classic. Couple interesting factoids about the Temptations (compliments of wikipedia): - the original group was a compilation of two local Detroit vocal groups -- The Distants & The Primes... coming together to first form The Elgins... before The Temptations - at the height of his success lead singer David Ruffin got a little absurd -- he demanded he ride to and from gigs in a private mink lined limousine... he started using cocaine, and when he missed a gig at a Cleveland club the other four members had to write up legal documentation -- and fired him - Ruffin then began turning up at Temptations shows, jumpi...

The Temptations- "I Wish It Would Rain"
Thanks to their fine-tuned choreography, and even finer harmonies, the Temptations became the definitive male vocal group of the 1960s; one of Motown's most elastic acts, they tackled both lush pop and politically charged funk with equal flair, and weathered a steady stream of changes in personnel and consumer tastes with rare dignity and grace. The Temptations' initial five-man lineup formed in Detroit in 1961 as a merger of two local vocal groups, the Primes and the Distants. Baritone Otis Williams, Elbridge Bryant, and bass vocalist Melvin Franklin were longtime veterans of the Detroit music scene when they joined together in the Distants, who in 1959 recorded the single "Come On" for the local Northern label. Around the same time, the Primes, a trio comprised of tenor Eddie Kendricks, ...

The Temptations and Four Tops competed in a "Battle of the Bands" style Motown 25 soul event, Pasadena Civic Auditorium, California in 1983. The only original or "Classic Five" Temptations performing were Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams, as Eddie Kendricks (who left the group in 1971) and David Ruffin (who left the group in 1968, and was replaced by Dennis Edwards) had a falling out with the group. Paul Williams (who also left the group in 1971) had died in 1973, and Al Bryant (who left the group and was replaced by Ruffin in 1964) had died in 1975. Joining Williams and Franklin were then-Temptations Dennis Edwards, Richard Street, and Ron Tyson. All of the original members of the Four Tops performed: Renaldo "Obie" Benson, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, and Lawrence Payton, with Levi Stubbs provi...

The songs included in this set were all recorded in an era where the single preceded the LP. Do you remember 45's? The songs are ALL hits and recorded between 1964 and 1968 in what has become known as "The Classic Five Era". The Temptations at that time featured Paul Williams, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin and Otis Williams. With Otis being the only surviving member. The album art shown is of the LP that the song appeared on and the scrolling captions describe the year the song was released as a single. I hope you enjoy this collection of Temptation hits. Indeed they were often imitated but never duplicated.

Tucked away in a quiet, non descript St. Louis suburb lives a music legend, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and a five time Grammy award winner. Say hello to St. Louisan Dennis Edwards. Edwards was the lead singer of the Temptations. Yes, those Temptations. His gritty, soulful, gospel voice was the sound of the Motown group in the late 60s and 70s.
there's a christmas tree in a window frame
just inside my door
but my christmas tree doesn't look the same
as it always has before
there's just one lonely present
beneath my christmas tree
cause the best little present a guy could have
has gone away from me
oh my christmas tree isn't very big
in fact it's kind of small
oh it's funny when she'd pick them out
they'd always seem so tall
the light doesn't seem so bright this year
it's hard for me to see
the smile that made my christmas right
has gone away from me
i have been so lonely
since you left me all alone
all i want for christmas
is my baby, my baby back home
oh my christmas tree is so sad and bare
my roon so big and cold
oh they wish me happy new year
but the new year's already old
there's no, no little angel
on top where she used to be
cause the angel that made my christmas right
has gone away from me
cause the angel that made my christmas right
has gone away from me
cause the angel that made my christmas right
has gone away from me
