Too Many Cooks is a 1931 American Pre-Code comedy film directed by William A. Seiter and written by Jane Murfin. The film stars Bert Wheeler, Dorothy Lee, Roscoe Ates and Robert McWade. The film was released on July 18, 1931, by RKO Pictures.
Engaged couple Albert Bennett (Bert Wheeler) and Alice Cook (Dorothy Lee) plan on leaving the city they live in order to build their dream house in the country. They visit the site of their future home while it is only the foundation. The happiness of the new foundation soon dissolves as Albert and Alice start to argue about the floor plan. This problem is made worse when dozens of Alice’s family members come to help, each offering different opinions for the new house.
Albert’s bachelor uncle/employer George (Robert McWade) comes to inspect the house. He offers to pay for it, in exchange for living with the newlywed couple on its completion. Alice’s family vehemently opposes, causing the offended George to fire Albert. Due to his unemployment, Alice calls off the engagement.
"Too Many Cooks" is a surreal dark comedy short that originally aired as a special during Adult Swim's "infomercials" block on October 28, 2014, at 4:00 am Eastern Time. It was written and directed by Casper Kelly and produced by Williams Street Productions. After its original airing, the piece became a viral video online and was repeated each night at midnight Eastern Time during the week of November 11, 2014.
The video begins as a parody of opening credits sequences of 1980s and 1990s American situation comedies, then television crime dramas, prime time soap operas, Saturday-morning cartoons, superhero live-action series, and science fiction television shows. In the middle of that sequence, it morphs into a surreal narrative that includes slasher film elements, in which many of the multitude of stock characters introduced in the opening credits are murdered, cooked, and eaten by a maniac with a machete. One of the characters is Smarf, an anthropomorphic cat.
Should I leave, should I stay?
Should I try to walk away?
From you tonight
Without a fight
Like a wound that will not heal
I cannot change the way I feel
For you tonight
Oh, how I?ve tried
Too many tear drops, too many heartaches
Too many pieces on the floor
Too much is broken, too much was taken
Too many things I can't ignore
I just can?t love you anymore
Should we give it one more try
Even though it?s just a lie
We tell ourselves
Just one more time
I forgot the reasons why
You once were always on my mind
I think it?s time
To say goodbye
Too many tear drops, too many heartaches
Too many pieces on the floor
Too much is broken, too much was taken
Too many things I can't ignore
I just can?t love you anymore
Too many tear drops, too many heartaches
Too many pieces on the floor
Too much is broken, too much was taken
Too many things I can't ignore
I just can?t love you anymore
