Our project explores the causes and effects of gentrification in Wynwood. Through interviews with developers, gallerists, artists, community leaders, and members of the local Puerto Rican population, we seek to tell the story of how Wynwood went from Miami's oldest Puerto Rican community to its largest art district, and what that means for the future of the neighborhood.
We want people to be aware of the peculiar way in which the neighborhood was gentrified—one of them being the use of street art as a marketing tool. It's a story about Miami in every way possible, from art to culture to economy to community. Our film is a documentation of a unique part of Miami's history that just so happens to be in process right now. Though people have been calling Wynwood the 'Soho of Miami', we've discovered that this simply isn't true, as gentrification in Wynwood occurred in a completely different way, with entirely different motives.
We’ve also discovered that no one actually knows what really happened, have never heard the word gentrification in their lives, and for the most part are blissfully unaware of what has been going on in their own streets. Many people are exploring Wynwood, but no one is asking any of the questions that we are.

Visiting Miami ? then head for the Wynwood Art District. This neighborhood of Miami is home to over 70 galleries, museums and collections, lots of street art, restaurants, coffee shops, and cool stuff. Some of the street art changes very often, and it is done by local and international artists. It has a cool vibe, and something different to do in Miami. It is worth the visit.

Wynwood
Wynwood is a neighborhood in Miami, Florida, United States. It is north of Downtown Miami and Overtown, and adjacent to Edgewater. Wynwood has two major sub-districts, the Wynwood Art District in northern Wynwood, and the Wynwood Fashion District along West 5th Avenue. Wynwood is roughly divided by North 20th Street to the south, I-195 to the north, I-95 to the west and the Florida East Coast Railway to the east.
Wynwood is also referred to as "Little San Juan", and commonly known as "El Barrio" as many Puerto Ricans began immigrating to this Miami neighborhood from the island and northeastern cities in the 1950s.Puerto Rican-owned restaurants, shops, markets and other businesses line the streets of Wynwood. Recently, however, the neighborhood has seen a push towards gentrification with increased investments and developments. The Midtown Miami development construction began in 2005 between North 29th and 36th Street and Miami Avenue and the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) on what was historically an FEC rail yard. This brought renewed attention to the area, and previously abandoned warehouses have begun to be occupied by artists, restaurants, cafés, and lounges. Tony Goldman a developer also assisted in the growth of Wynwood by creating a mecca out of the already present graffiti. Some 30 artists traveled from around the world to create what is now the Wynwood Walls, this led to an incredible increase in other street art in the surrounding area. The large arts presence brought upon Miami what is conceived as a new Hipster neighborhood. Art and fashion are major elements of Wynwood, as Wynwood has a large fashion and textiles industry, primarily along NW 5th Avenue, in the Wynwood Fashion District.

Miami is nicknamed the "Capital of Latin America", is the second largest U.S. city with a Spanish-speaking majority, and the largest city with a Cuban-American plurality.

Our project explores the causes and effects of gentrification in Wynwood. Through interviews with developers, gallerists, artists, community leaders, and members of the local Puerto Rican population, we seek to tell the story of how Wynwood went from Miami's oldest Puerto Rican community to its largest art district, and what that means for the future of the neighborhood.
We want people to be aware of the peculiar way in which the neighborhood was gentrified—one of them being the use of street art as a marketing tool. It's a story about Miami in every way possible, from art to culture to economy to community. Our film is a documentation of a unique part of Miami's history that just so happens to be in process right now. Though people have been calling Wynwood the 'Soho of Miami', we've discovered that this simply isn't true, as gentrification in Wynwood occurred in a completely different way, with entirely different motives.
We’ve also discovered that no one actually knows what really happened, have never heard the word gentrification in their lives, and for the most part are blissfully unaware of what has been going on in their own streets. Many people are exploring Wynwood, but no one is asking any of the questions that we are.

These are my carefully selected 21 hidden secrets & best places in Miami which I've visited 4x times and includes gems like Scuba diving, Jet-skiing, Eating Alligator, Lock & Load and tips for the neon Miami nightlife.

Too many boring travel guides are available these days for Miami and sadly are mostly all the same, that's why I dug deep into this city to bring you the best hidden spots.
The places featured in my detailed video above are organized from the morning, afternoon towards the evening and nightlife so you can make the best out of your days in Miami.
Miami can be very expensive if you don't know what you are doing but luckily there are some FREE things to do as well, like the Lincoln Parking deck view or sneaking into the Mondrian or Spa Standard Hotel to observe their gorgeous pools.
I personally recommend going all out because there are so many amazing things to do you do not want to cheap-out, saving up a few months extra will be worth every penny in the end. A very-rough budget for 1 awesome week per person would be around a $500 flight, $500 AirBnB and $1500 for Uber, shopping, food, events, museums & night time party = around $2500 to start.
Miami very widespread with many districts from Miami South Beach, which is its own peninsula, to the Wynwood Art District. Split up your days by having 2 days in Miami South Beach to visit Ocean Drive, Espanola Way and Lincoln Road. Spend the other days on day trips to downtown Miami, Wynwood, the Florida Keys and the incredible Everglades.
My favorite way to explore a city is by jogging, you'll be surprised as to what you may find. A few of these photos where taken at places I randomly walked into, places you will never see on a guided tour.
Besides great hidden attractions; Miami also offers amazing restaurants like Sylvanos, great Italian cuisine at affordable prices and NaiYara, voted the best restaurant in Miami South Beach offering Thai-Japanese fusion cuisine with dishes like freshly made beef jerky, salmon tacos and ultra fresh sashimi. Try a piece of Ootoro (Blue fin tuna belly) sashimi before leaving! You won't regret it.
Miami has many incredible pools but the ones that truly stand out is the infinity pool at the Spa Standard Hotel and the pool at the Mondrian Hotel visit these pools in combination with doing an Art Deco tour of Miami South Beach with places such as the Delano, Colony Theater, the Carlyle and Breakwater.
