The International Monetary Fund has warned Tanzania that the country's economic policies threaten its forecast of 7% growth in the fiscal year 2016-17. President John Magufuli had promised after his election last year to reform the economy, which is struggling with red tape and corruption,by developing public infrastructure. But the IMF says progress has been slow and a lack of public spending is curtailing liquidity. Tanzania projects growth at 7.2 percent for 2016, up from 7 percent in 2015, led by mining, telecoms, construction and financial services. The economy grew 6.2 percent in the third quarter of 2016, compared with 6.3 percent in the same quarter in 2015.
The Tanzanian government is seeking parliament to pass new laws that would force foreign energy and mining companies to renegotiate their contracts. President John Magafuli says the reforms will increase transparency and revenues maintaining that foreign companies have not been paying their fair share of taxes. The companies deny the allegations. Mining contributes to 3.5 percent of the country's GDP. Three new bills presented to lawmakers follow recommendations of a task force formed to investigate Tanzania's gold mining industry. For more on Tanzania’s economic outlook, CCTV America’s Rachelle Akuffo spoke to Paolo Mauro, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington.
The International Monetary Fund warns that Tanzania's growth rates could be hurt because businesses remain uncertain about the Government's economic strategy. President John Magufuli has become known for cutting excessive government spending and fighting corruption. But the IMF warns that the country's high growth rates may be at risk. Dan Ashby reports
Tanzania's economy is expected to grow by 20 basis points to 7.4 per cent in 2017. According to the country's central bank, this growth will be driven by construction, communications and finance. The country is experiencing increased real estate development for residential and non- residential purposes and building of road networks. “Construction has been the major contributor to growth for the past two years contributing 23.9 per cent and 18.8 per cent in 2015 and 2014, respectively,” note… READ MORE : http://www.africanews.com/2016/06/29/tanzania-to-record-a-74-per-cent-growth-in-2017 Africanews is a new pan-African media pioneering multilingual and independent news telling expertise in Sub-Saharan Africa. President John Magufuli is pushing ahead with his fight against corruption, hoping to speed up his country’s industrialisation. His supporters call him "the bulldozer" for his no-nonsense approach: he has sacked countless officials and vowed to make public servants work harder. But opposition MPs say he is also suppressing democracy, and police are arresting hundreds of their members. Dan Ashby reports.
Our Website http://www.africa-ppbexpo.com Why Tanzania ? The United Republic of Tanzania is the second largest economy in the East African Community and the twelfth largest in Africa. The country is largely dependent on agriculture for employment, accounting for about half of the employed workforce. An estimated 34 percent of Tanzanians currently live in poverty. The economy has been transitioning from a command economy to a market economy since 1985. According to recent reports, Tanzania is regarded as one of the most attractive investment destination in Africa. There are several factors which are considered by investors in determining the attractiveness of a particular territory/ economy. These include: the existing national policies, legal and regulatory framework, infrastructural ...
The Tanzanian Government aims to increase its growth rates to a historic 10 per cent by 2020 and pull millions of its people out of poverty. In its new 5-year plan, the Finance Ministry said it is committed to put the country on a path to become a 'New Tanzania'. Dan Ashby, has been looking through the economic forecast.
With a vigorous growth rate of 7 percent, the economy of East Africa's Tanzania is booming. And with that growth, comes the envy of foreign investors such as China and the United States. Both countries are racing to share in a piece of the Tanzanian pie, with Chinese companies already leading the way, providing builing and infrastructure in return for resources. VOA's Gabe Joselow has followed the story and talks with On Assignment's Philip Alexiou.
Tanzania's Finance minister expects economic growth to reach 7.2 percent in 2016 up from 7 percent last year. Budget spending for the fiscal year starting in July will also rise 2.2 percent. Philip Mpango presented the document outlining budget plans for 2016/17 to parliament. And this will be the first indication of spending plans under the new administration of President John Magufuli, who was elected in October 2015. And in Malawi, the finance ministry says growth will pick to more than 4 percent in 2016 from about 3 percent last year as the country recovers from a drought caused by the El Nino weather pattern. Agriculture accounts for almost a third of Malawi's economy and provides a livelihood for 80 percent of the population. The kwacha has also been hit by a loss of donor funds be...
Tanzania is yet to decide whether to sign a proposed trade deal between the East African Community and the EU. The deal is expected to open up imports and exports between the two markets. The agreement was ready to go last year and Kenya and Rwanda have already signed it. But they need Tanzania, Burundi and Uganda to do the same before it comes into effect. Tanzania's Parliament has already voted against it. Lucy Taylor reports

Along the northern coast of Tanzania, a series of innovative development projects are combining conservation efforts with health and livelihood interventions. In Healthy People, Healthy Environment: Integrated Development in Tanzania, we meet Rukia, Mahija, and Fidea from the Pangani and Bagamoyo districts who demonstrate how these "population, health, and environment" projects are improving their lives, their environment, and their community. Community members are some of the most important tools of the PHE approach -- local villagers become peer educators who can discuss the linkages of conservation and health with their neighbors and help spread the use of interventions such as clean cookstoves, sustainable seaweed farming, and reproductive health services. The country boasts a warm humid climate with diverse ecosystems, from snow-capped mountains, semi-arid desert regions and rainforests, to acacia-studded savannah, flamingo lakes, white palm-fringed ocean beaches and coral reefs. How about this for the ultimate sundowner? We heard about it from two guests, recently returned from Kenya's Mara North Conservancy. The Tanzanian government has slapped Acacia Mining with a 190 billion dollars tax bill, which is about 19.75 trillion Kenyan shillings. This tax demand is almost 200 years worth of Acacia's annual revenue. The gold miner has refuted the government's assessments claiming that it has fully declared all its revenues. More films about Africa: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/africa/ In Tanzania, it is against the law to marry underage girls. The punishment for those responsible – the husband and the parents of the bride who allowed the wedding to happen – is up to 30 years in prison. Nevertheless, there are families who continue to follow the tradition and attempt to marry their daughters off when they’re as young as 12 or 13 years old. An early marriage means the parents will no longer have to take care of the girl and will receive cows in exchange. Cows are a staple of Tanzanian village life and some consider them more valuable than their own daughters. Local authorities and activists are working to prevent child marriages, often interrupting such weddings. Rescued girls are taken to a shelter, where they rece...
In episode three, Griff attempts to zigzag his way 1200 miles through Kenya and Tanzania. The journey proves a challenge, with large parts of the railways being relics, leftover from colonial days. Neither tracks nor trains work as well as they used to. Boarding Nyaturu, a vintage steam locomotive made in Glasgow, Griff begins his journey on the high plateau in southwest Kenya. Griff says: “These are areas where equatorial Africa presents itself in an extraordinary variety of ways. We have snow-capped mountains, we have forests, we have desert and we have wild animals.” Built by the British, this railway created a colony and Griff visits a cattle farm established by an aristocrat a century ago. Donning a pair of overalls, he joins the Kenyan workers as they bathe over 2000 cattle to ward o...

German occupation left its mark on Tanzania. But how has the east African country changed since the colonial era? Even though the Germans were pushed out of East Africa after the First World War, the ties remain close. Many farms there have changed little since, and Germans still live in some of them. German settlers originally built some of the old farmsteads on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro during the colonial era. Makoa Farm is one that dates back to that time. German veterinarian Elli Stegmaier and her husband Laszlo run a clinic there where they mainly treat sick and injured wild animals. It’s their dream come true. Not far from their estate is Momella Farm, where actors John Wayne and Hardy Krüger filmed the Hollywood classic Hatari in the early sixties. Krüger fell in love with ...

It's eight hours later in Tanzania.
When Jen lays down
Mary's just opening her eyes.
Her child's feet land on the ground
and dirt scatters,
And she feels left out in the open,
always left out in the open.
She says, 'son, wear my shoes to school today?.
He turns and smiles and walks away,
and she thinks to herself
"Someday I will wake
where the earth is clean and safe.
My children have a place to play,
not here in Tanzania.
And someday I will live
in a house that's built by
hands that hold the world."
It's eight hours earlier in Chattanooga.
Mary sits down and Jen's just put the coffee on.
Katie Couric is talking news and fashion,
and Jen feels pushed into a corner,
always pushed into a corner, she says
'Baby I know what girls at school are like'.
And her daughter rides off on her bike,
and Jen thinks to herself
"Someday I will wake
where my children get a break,
And there are chances that they'll take,
not here in Chattanooga.
Someday I will live
in a house that's built by
hands that hold the world."
Well it's hard to be mother,
and it's hard to be a woman,
and it's hard to live in Africa sometimes.
It's hard to be mother,
and it's hard to be a woman,
and it's hard to live in America sometimes.
But someday I will wake
in a body that won't break,
On ground that doesn't shake, not here.
And someday I will live
in a house that's built by
