Carbonation can refer to two chemical processes involving carbon dioxide:

Dissolution in a liquid

The process usually involves carbon dioxide under high pressure. When the pressure is reduced, the carbon dioxide is released from the solution as small bubbles, which causes the solution to become effervescent, or fizzy. A common example is the dissolving of carbon dioxide in water, resulting in carbonated water.

Carbon dioxide is weakly soluble in water, therefore it separates into a gas when the pressure is released.

Incorporation into chemical compounds

Carbonation also describes the incorporation of carbon dioxide into chemical compounds. This occurs in the following cases:

Modern Marvels

Modern Marvels is an American worldwide television series on the History Channel. The program focuses on how technologies affect and are used in today's society. It is among History's first, and longest-running, programs, having first aired on History's first day of broadcasting on January 1, 1995.

Since its debut, Modern Marvels has produced over 650 one-hour episodes covering various topics involving (to list a few) science, technology, electronics, mechanics, engineering, architecture, industry, mass production, manufacturing, and agriculture. Each episode typically discusses the history and production of several related items; for instance, an episode on distilled spirits discusses the production of bourbon in Kentucky, scotch whisky in Scotland, and tequila in Mexico. To fit the network's format, Modern Marvels focuses a significant portion of the episode on the history of the subject.

The show began to premiere new episodes in January 2010, not having done so through all of 2009. In August 2010, History Channel began to air older episodes that had been edited to fit a 30-minute time slot, under the title Modern Marvels: Essentials.

Mount Kimbie

Mount Kimbie is an English electronic music duo consisting of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos. They formed the group in London in 2008 and released their debut album Crooks & Lovers in 2010 to critical acclaim.

The band released their second album, Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, in 2013 through Warp Records.

History

Kai Campos is originally from St. Austell in Cornwall, while Dom Maker is from Brighton. They met at Southbank University in London, where Campos was having another go at university and Maker was studying film. They started making music together at a home studio in Peckham.

Arguably responsible for the term "post-dubstep", the duo has released a series of EPs and their highly praised debut album Crooks & Lovers. The Guardian described the pair as "leading an exploratory breakaway from bass-heavy dubstep towards a lighter, hazier style of electronica rich with drowsy ambience and chopped-up found sounds."

The band's debut album, entitled Crooks and Lovers, was released on 19 June 2010 in the UK to critical acclaim, and achieved a 7.9 ADM Rating on review aggregator website AnyDecentMusic?.
