Daily News or The Daily News is the name of several daily newspapers around the world, including:
Montreal (i/ˌmʌntriːˈɒl/;French: Montréal,pronounced: [mɔ̃ʁeal]) is the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is the second largest city in Canada and the 26th largest in the Americas. Originally called Ville-Marie, or "City of Mary," it is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. The city is on the Island of Montreal, which took its name from the same source as the city, and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which is Île Bizard. It has a distinct four-season continental climate with warm to hot summers and cold snowy winters.
In 2011 the city had a population of 1,649,519. Montreal's metropolitan area had a population of 3,824,221 and a population of 1,886,481 in the urban agglomeration, with all of the municipalities on the Island of Montreal included. The 2014 estimate of the population of the metropolitan area of Montreal is 4.1 million.
French is the city's official language and is the language spoken at home by 56.9% of the population of the city, followed by English at 18.6% and 19.8% other languages (in the 2006 census). In the larger Montreal Census Metropolitan Area, 67.9% of the population speaks French at home, compared to 16.5% who speak English. Montreal is one of the most bilingual cities in Quebec and Canada with 56% of the population able to speak both English and French. Montreal is the second largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris.
Barack Hussein Obama II (US i/bəˈrɑːk huːˈseɪn oʊˈbɑːmə/; born August 4, 1961) is an American politician serving as the 44th President of the United States, the first African American to hold the office. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney and taught constitutional law at University of Chicago Law School between 1992 and 2004. He served three terms representing the 13th District in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004, and ran unsuccessfully in the Democratic primary for the United States House of Representatives in 2000 against incumbent Bobby Rush.
In 2004, Obama received national attention during his campaign to represent Illinois in the United States Senate with his victory in the March Democratic Party primary, his keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July, and his election to the Senate in November. He began his presidential campaign in 2007 and, after a close primary campaign against Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2008, he won sufficient delegates in the Democratic Party primaries to receive the presidential nomination. He then defeated Republican nominee John McCain in the general election, and was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009. Nine months after his inauguration, Obama was named the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
Armed with signs, rocks, and molotov cocktails, huge numbers of students and masked protesters hit the streets of Montreal to protest tuition hikes and political corruption. For over 100 days, students in Quebec protested against proposed tuition hikes by Premier Jean Charest, the leader of an allegedly corrupt provincial government with widespread mafia links. A 48-year-old woman died a horrific and terrifying death on Thursday when her scarf got caught in a moving escalator in a subway station in Montreal, Canada. The freak accident occurred around 9.15 a.m. at the Fabre Metro station on the city's blue line. Police believe shortly after stepping on to the descending escalator the woman's scarf became stuck. "While she was trying to pull up her scarf from the escalator, her hair got caught too and from there, everything got tied up at the end of the escalators," said Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant of the Montreal police. Bassam Joubarani, a witness who saw the woman lying on the floor at the bottom of the escalator told the CBC the woman was breathing but unconscious. You´re heading out - the door - is wide
Open - your mouth - is dry - next time you´ll try
The ink is nearly dry
Your eyes were searching for time
No need to wait - for words - that may
Hurt to say - it´s hard - to be - the one
To brak - the news - to her
Don´t hesitate
It´s in your hands
It´s on your breath
It´s on your face
No time to take a moment´s rest
It´s in your hands - the daily news
It´s on your breath - sadness you drink
