Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba (Spanish: República de Cuba ), is a country comprising the islands of Cuba, Isla de la Juventud and several archipelagos in the Caribbean Sea. The capital and largest city Havana is 365 km (227 mi) from Miami, Florida. Geographically, Cuba is considered part of North America. Culturally, it is considered part of Latin America.
Prior to Spanish colonization in the late 15th century, Cuba was inhabited by Amerindian tribes. It remained a colony of Spain until the Spanish–American War of 1898, which led to nominal independence as a de facto U.S. protectorate in 1902. As a fragile republic, Cuba attempted to strengthen its democratic system, but mounting political radicalization and social strife culminated in the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in 1952. Further unrest and instability led to Batista's ousting in January 1959 by the July 26 movement, which afterwards established a government under the leadership of Fidel Castro. Since 1965, the country has been governed by the Communist Party of Cuba.

Genres: Drama,There are few more fascinating destinations in the Caribbean than its largest and most populous island, Cuba -- not least because it has been a socialist republic since the 1959 revolution, when Fidel Castro seized power. This last remaining vestige of state socialism, 90 miles south of Key West, Florida, was once the last stronghold of Spanish power in the region. Cuba's rich artistic heritage ranges from pre-Columbian cultures to the splendors of Spanish colonialism and the internationally acclaimed art of today. It is also a place of great natural beauty, with three magnificent mountain ranges and fertile plains where sugar cane and tobacco grow. And it has some of the best beaches in the world. U.S.-Cuban relations have thawed and tourism has increased, but it's still unclear when Americans will be able to travel freely to the nation that was historically off limits. As traveling restrictions are eased, Cuba may also not be ready to accommodate the onslaught of American visitors. Ben Tracy reports.

Travel video about destination Cuba. Basking in the Caribbean sun, the island of Cuba lies between sun and socialism, rumba and revolution. Havana is the capital. In 1553, the Spanish conquerors designated Havana’s harbour as a collection point for ships loaded with gold and silver from the new Spanish colonies and named the settlement, San Cristobal De La Habana.La Bodeguita Del Medio was once Hemmingway`s local and nowhere else is the ‘Mojito’ mixed better: three year old white rum, lime juice, soda, sugar, ice and mint. Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house, or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia. When the Daiquiri is served, one almost expects Fidel Castro to be sitting at the next table. Pinar Del Rio is a small but...

Tourism chronicles an individual’s journey around the island of Cuba. The camera focuses on the road where the tourist is cruising, moving along on roller skates. The tourist follows its track, turning its back to the land- scape and crossing paths with locals, cars, trucks, buses and carriages. The smooth skating movement is constantly disrupted by the montage, condensing time and space. The result is a visual impromptu. Tourism explores the intensity of being in a space of otherness.

Havana is a city that beats to an animated heartbeat. Life is very much so lived on the streets and rooftops, where locals and visitors mingle freely. It was everything that I imagined and more. My sole regret is only having a few days to immerse myself in this kaleidoscopic wonder. Tourism has become vital to Cuba's existence and one would hope to think that we can give back as much as we get out of the experience. Cubans are a very warm and affectionate people and as a US citizen, I felt welcomed with an open heart and mind. Coming from a photographic background I am new to videography but am falling head over heels with it. There is nothing more satisfying than the beginning stages of discovering a new passion, even with all the stumbling blocks and frustration that come along with le...
Only 90 miles separate the coast of Florida from Cuba, but for decades the short distance was a near impossibility for generations of thrill seekers. Now the well conserved ecological paradise, 100-miles of pristine, fish-filled flats, is slowly opening to anglers. Avalon Outdoor Guides showed Jonathan Jones, a.k.a. Redbeard and Ross Kingsley to unspoiled waters so they could let it fly in the Cayo Cruz marine park. Since 1992, Avalon has been introducing sustainability in the conservation tourism—limiting the number of licenses with an increasing number of conservation projects providing Cuba one of the most successful programs for fly fishing. Equipped in the Guide’s Choice with ChromaPop, the boys scored one for the ages.
This is a short piece I've done with some shots of people and places I met in Egypt while I was shooting a tourism programme for a flight company in December 2009. I shot it all using a Canon 5d Mark II and a Glidetrack HD. Edited in FCP and graded with After Effects. The main theme is "Ah Men El-Fora2" by Amr Diab, covered by a super talented egyptian musician called MARWAN ANWER. The intro is extracted from a song called "Beirut Goes to Cuba".
We journeyed to Cuba over Christmas this year and had a blast. I brought down a single camera and two lenses... The Sony A6000, Zeiss 16-70mm and Sony 10-18. I have to say, even in just shooting AVCHD, I was pretty impressed with that little unit. The video turned out a little more touristy than I had wanted, but we had limited time to get away from the tours and just couldn't make the timing work to explore more. Next time, I'll devote a few days to just shooting. Music: I'm Coming Home, by Zachary Davis... licensed through www.themusicbed.com

Malecon is one of the last barrier to the change of their society.
A video shot at a small cigar factory at Miami's famous 8th St. In "La Calle Ocho" is where most of Cuban exiles choose to have their factories or at least a token front when dealing with cigars. Tobacco is planted the world over and cigars are rolled everywhere that plant is harvested but for reasons I'm sure many people are unaware of, Cuba has an overwhelming preponderance when it comes to tobacco and particularly cigar’s topmost quality. Connoisseurs say the tobacco from this island is the best there is and name the plants, soil and microclimate as the main reasons. But debatable as these may be there is little doubt on who makes the best cigars in America. Another elusive dictum is why Cubans choose Miami as their Cosa Nostra. It can’t be just geographical proximity (the city of Key W...

Cuba is famous for its excellent health care system, which is free of charge for its citizens. How can a developing country like Cuba reach such a high level of free health care? We meet doctor Gisela, and go on tour with her trough the neighborhood she attends. But what if you live in a developing country where access to health care is not that obvious? In the Philippines we meet Emma. She is not a doctor, but a Community Health Worker. We witness how she, together with her colleagues, helps her neighbors and organizes them for the right to health. A never before seen inside look into Cuba's medical scholarship program. Support the students: https://fs24.formsite.com/IFCO7120/form4/index.html?1466451287589 Site: http://communitydoctorsfilm.com Synopsis: Although it is a resource-poor country Cuba has developed a highly effective medical system. Their health outcomes are on par with those of the United States. Cuba has provided thousands of doctors to work in medically underserved areas in countries around the world to restore those communities from the impact of natural disasters, epidemics and the widespread lack of medical care. In 1999 Cuba opened the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) to give medical scholarships to the brightest from poor areas around the world so that they may become doctors that will eventually retur...
June 2006 Despite decades of crippling sanctions, Cuba has achieved the unthinkable. Its health care system rivals most Western countries and infant mortality rates are lower than those in America. "There is no place in the world with such a system as we have in Cuba", raves one happy patient. Prevented from importing drugs by sanctions, Cuba was forced to make is own medicines. It now sells this technology to other countries, enabling revenues from the health sector to rival those generated by tourism. But it's the training for free of international medical students that's really marking Cuba's stamp on the region. "In ten years, we will have trained between 100,000 -- 150,000 students", boasts Dr Estevez. America claims gestures like this are a means of Cuba buying UN votes. But Cub...

Cigar enthusiasts paid around $800,000 (€753,000) for several handcrafted wooden humidors filled with premium Cuban cigars at an auction during the gala closing of the 19th International Cigar Festival in Havana, Saturday. Organisers said that money raised at the auction would be donated to Cuba's state-run health-care system. The five-day event featured visits to Habanos tobacco plantations and factories, master classes on cigar rolling techniques, as well as cigar presentations of major Cuban cigar brands such as Montecristo and Quai d'Orsay. The International Cigar Festival attracts thousands of participants and celebrities from all over the world. During more than fifty years of isolation, Cuba has had one major tool of diplomacy - its doctors. More than fifty-thousand health care workers have been sent to sixty-five countries. But as Kil-Minnie Do-Cart reports, warming relations with the U-S could threaten Cuba's international medical contributions.
RR9606/B - CUBA: HEALTH TOURISM (dur: 10 mins 43 secs/eng. sot: none/Spanish sot: 2 mins 57 secs) Increasing numbers of foreigners travel to Cuba as "health tourists" in order to receive medical treatment, either because it's cheaper there or because it's not available in their own country. Cuban equipment, know-how and medicine combine to make health care a potential force for economic growth. In 1995, for instance, a pioneering team of Cuban and Spanish surgeons developed a new technique for the surgical treatment of Parkinson's disease. Two of the areas where health tourism is growing are treatments for certain eye and skin conditions, including retinitis pigmentosa or night blindness, vitiligo and psoriasis. "If you ever get the chance, go there -- it's the only region in the World that I have been to where all of the things that are important in life: love, friendship, knowledge, health, and natural beauty are in fact treated as the most important things in life. Of course, for even yin, there exists an equal and opposite yang -- in the case of Cuba it appears in the form of a lack of material wealth. Whether the tradeoff is worthwhile or not is in the eye of the beholder. I encourage you to go and find out for yourself." -Reed McCoy

The Memory of Water (working title) is a documentary about how Homeopathy is radically changing the way medicine is practiced all over the world. The film focuses on Ananda More, a 37 year-old mother and Homeopathic practitioner in downtown Toronto who is at a professional crossroads. After 8 years of practice, she’s asking herself some hard questions: Is homeopathy what it claims to be, a miraculous and affordable medicine that could cure cancer, AIDS, and even the common cold while saving billions of dollars in healthcare? Or is she practicing a form of placebo and endangering patient’s lives by keeping them from conventional treatment? With conservative estimates of over half a billion users worldwide, Homeopathy is considered the fastest growing form of medicine on the planet. This h...
This film will document one Homeopath's journey abroad in search of proof that homeopathy works. Her journey will take her to Cuba where extraordinary claims have been made by the government. Recently, they have used homeopathy to prevent an annual epidemic called Leptospirosis with great success. She will also explore how new homeopathic cancer medications have been used and how homeopathy is practiced widely in public hospitals and clinics. The film will follow her as she meets government representatives, doctors, patients and pharmacies throughout the country. If these remarkable claims are true what will this mean for the advancement of public health in other countries? Filming will begin in July 22. Please help support this project. In 2008, Littleglobe launched its first Common Ground project in rural New Mexico. Commissioned by the NM Arts and Social Justice Committee and in partnership with The Lensic Performing Arts Center and the Southwest Organizing Project, Littleglobe chose to base its first rural collaboration in the small town of Cuba and the two eastern Diné (Navajo) villages of Ojo Encino and Torreon. These interrelated communities are deeply affected by racism, poverty and homelessness. The struggle to survive reinforces differences between these communities, and yet they share a basic desire for connection and growth. During the fall of 2007, the Littleglobe team visited the area, getting to know firefighters, teachers, health care workers, artists and a wide range of other community residents in the TO...

Miguel Iglesias - swimmer turned dancer When Miguel Iglesias, director of Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, was still in grammar school, he told his dad he wanted to be a dancer. Without saying a word, his father began to guide his son towards sports, especially swimming. Miguel became pretty good at it and eventually graduated from the Higher Institute of Sports and Physical Education. But his wish of becoming a dancer had never died. He danced whenever and wherever he could at social centers, comparsas during the carnivals, anywhere. In 1967, encouraged by a friend who was dancing with the Cuban Television Ballet, he did an audition and passed the test. Two years later, in 1969, he traveled to Camagüey to work with the newly-created ballet. He studied there under Russian dancer Azari Pliz...
It’s only 93 miles from Florida, and just 13 from the Bahamas, but like the smoke that coils from its legendary cigars, The Republic of Cuba exists in a time and space all its own. Few cities can stir the imagination like Cuba’s capital, Havana, a city preserved by forts, a five-mile seawall, and an imposed embargo, which held back the excesses of the 20th century for over 50 years. Havana’s lure can be hard to resist, but Cuba offers so much more beyond the seductive lights of its capital. In Cuba, a long sandy beach is never far away. Just 12 miles from Havana’s downtown, the Eastern Beaches unroll toward the town of Matanzas, the birthplace of the rumba, and Cárdenas, where the Cuban Flag flew for the very first time. From here, follow the scent of fresh lime, rum and suntan lot...
Jonny here, right now I'm in Havana, and in this short film I'm going to explain a little about tourism in Cuba. Most cultural holidays to Cuba will start in Havana, a city of magnificent decaying colonial architecture, monuments and parks, museums and galleries, music and bars and large old American cars. But the first thing you'll probably notice wandering around Havana is the near total lack of consumerism. Cuba is still a communist country with no commercial influence from America, and as such there's almost no evidence at all of the large multinationals we're used to in the West; you won't find any Starbucks or McDonalds here. There are no billboards advertising Coca Cola, there are no glass fronted shopping malls. Which is actually really quite refreshing. The whole city gives you ...

I visited Cuba in July 2016 and after 18 days touring the island I made up a list of information I wish I had before my holiday. This is my collection of advice and suggestions I've made to try and help anyone travelling to Cuba. I looked up help videos before my own trip, and what I learnt while there was really not covered in most of the videos I watched on youtube. I guess I'm trying to bring more tips all together in one video (albeit a slightly long video haha). There is a lot more to know, I'm sure... but this is a decent list that will give you hopefully more direction to research when planning your holiday.

These orishas each represent a natural element (such as the ocean or leaves) and exhibit a human characteristic (such as motherhood or love)) Los Orishas began as Cuban rap group "Amenaza" in the early 1990s.

We danced and partied at the infamous Las Parradillas fiesta on Christmas eve, I caught a type of poison ivy from brushing the venemous Guao plant (while trying to get some footage), and we got lost wandering through the old Havana streets meeting fantastic people along the way. If you get the chance to visit Cuba then GO! What a place... After hearing news of the changing relationship between the Cubans and Americans we decided to grab a flight and travel over the xmas break for a couple of weeks. This is the resulting video... One of Cuba’s most creative skaters and surfers, Yojani Pérez Rivera reflects on how he and his amigos are #livingoffthewall to make the most of the little they have. Mamerto, as he’s known around the island, is among the most active local skaters advancing Cuba Skate's mission. Cuba Skate, an NGO created by American skater Miles Jackson, is in the process of creating a documentary feature following the lives of Mamerto and his scrappy crew, 23yG, to rally the international skate community around its goals: 1. provide much needed skate materials to the Cuban youth 2. renovate the only, dilapidated skatepark in Havana 3. establish the first skate shop in Cuba and foster a bilateral educational exchange between Cuban and American skaters Winning Vans’ #LIVINGOFFTHEWALL Contest would help...

refrain:
When you got the feeling
You try to get higher
You think you're going insane
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad
You feel it coming your way
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Oooh!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Oh, when you spin 'n' stompin'
There's no way out
You're getting down by the sound
And you fool about, feet around
As you inspire
It really knocks yourself out
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Yeah!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Come on, man, y'all
Yeah, you got it now
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Non stop, mmm, dance
Yeah
Non stop (Dance) (3x)
Non stop (Dance!)
refrain
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad

Do the non stop dance
Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (You're getting down by the sound)
Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (It really knocks yourself out)
Come on, do the dance
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Do the dance (Do the dance)
