Vincent Eugene Craddock (February 11, 1935 – October 12, 1971), known as Gene Vincent, was an American musician who pioneered the styles of rock and roll and rockabilly. His 1956 top ten hit with his Blue Caps, "Be-Bop-A-Lula", is considered a significant early example of rockabilly. He is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
Vincent Eugene Craddock was born in Norfolk, Virginia. His musical influences included country, rhythm and blues and gospel music. He showed his first real interest in music while his family lived in Munden Point, Princess Anne County (now Virginia Beach), Virginia, near the North Carolina line, where they ran a country store. He received his first guitar at the age of twelve as a gift from a friend.
His father, Ezekiah Jackson Craddock, volunteered to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard and patrolled American coastal waters to protect Allied shipping against German U-boats during World War II. His mother, Mary Louise Craddock, maintained a general store at Munden Point. Craddock's parents moved the family and opened a general store and sailors' tailoring shop in Norfolk.
Actors: Julia Jones (miscellaneous crew), James Corden (actor), Nick Moran (writer), Nick Moran (director), Chris Wilson (actor), Jimmy Carr (actor), Michael Sarne (actor), Nick Thomas-Webster (actor), Kevin Spacey (actor), Rita Tushingham (actress), Ilan Eshkeri (composer), Pam Ferris (actress), Stephanie Collie (costume designer), Jess Conrad (actor), Monika Agorelius (miscellaneous crew),
Plot: In the early 1960s self-taught electronics whizz Joe Meek amazingly produces a string of home made hit singles from his studio in his flat above a leather shop in London. His biggest success is the instrumental 'Telstar' but accusations of plagiarism delay royalties. Joe's mercurial temper causes his artists to forsake him for other labels,in particular his young lover Heinz Burt. Now in debt and after unwisely parting from his chief financier Major Banks,Joe finds himself unable to control his life. Increasingly paranoid, believing he is being bugged by rival record companies and that everybody is out to get him,the last straw comes when landlady Violet tells him she is selling the building in which he lives. Joe had once confiscated a shotgun from Heinz. Now it is dangerously close at hand and about to end the Joe Meek story.

Plot: Down-and-dirty musical love story set in the world of the working class. Nick is an ironworker who builds and repairs bridges. He's married to Kitty, a dressmaker, a strong and gentle woman with whom he has three daughters. He is carrying on a torrid affair with a redheaded woman named Tula. Nick is basically a good, hardworking man driven forward by will and blinded by his urges. Like Oedipus at Colonus, he is sent into exile and searches to find his way back through the damage he has done. Explores the cost and value of a relationship through life and death. When the characters can no longer express themselves with language, they break into song, lip-synching the tunes lodged in their subconscious. It is their way to escape the harsh reality of their world - to dream, to remember, and to connect to another human being.

Cliff Gallup was the guitarist in Gene Vincent's early Blue Caps, playing some of the coolest, jazziest rockabilly lines going. After the first album with Vincent, Gallup got fed up with touring and pretty much disappeared form the music scene. I found this record on eBay from years later (likely the mid- to late-60s, based on the age of Cliff's double-cutaway Gretsch guitar from the front cover). The LP features "Gallopin' Cliff Gallup" leading his own band, The Four C's, playing some jazzy instrumentals — including this instrumental of "Be-Bop-A-Lula." Even cooler, when I got the LP, it had been signed back in the day by the full band, including Cliff. I don't have an easy way to digitize LPs, so this video, shot with a still camera, is the best I could do.

Cochran's rockabilly songs, such as "C'mon Everybody", "Somethin' Else", and "Summertime Blues", captured teenage frustration and desire in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He experimented with multitrack recording and overdubbing even on his earliest singles, and was also able to play piano, bass and drums. Gene Vincent Songs 1. Be-Bop-A-Lula 2. High Blood Pressure 3. How cool are those backing vocals. Spooky good. 50s meets the 60s.

Well I said I'm waiting for you to come sneakin' in
Well I said I'm waiting for you to come sneakin' in
Gonna ask you baby just where you think you been?
So, I knocked and I knocked, bim-bam
Yes, I knocked and I knocked, bim-bam
Yes, I knocked and I knocked, bim-bam
Yes, I knocked and I knocked, bim-bam
So the next timer baby you'll know just who I am
