Brisbane bus drivers to strike next week

117 reading now

Brisbane's council bus drivers will go on strike for two hours for two mornings next week following protracted negotiations over a new enterprise agreement.

The Rail Tram and Bus Union said council drivers had overwhelmingly voted for protected industrial action, and stoppages would occur from 4.30am-6.30am on both Tuesday and Wednesday (July 18 and 19).

The union said the issues angering drivers are shift-work requirements and workplace health and safety provisions, especially in the wake of the murder of Manmeet Alisher while driving a council bus in Moorooka last October.
