'1995 pie prices' on offer to boost sagging Western Derby ticket sales

With just two days till bounce down for the second Western Derby this season there are still around 800 tickets still on offer.

The West Australian Football Commission said it still expects around 40,000 people to attend the Fremantle Dockers home game on Sunday afternoon, despite there being around 860 tickets still available as of Wednesday at 5pm.

The Western Derby usually draws a crowd of around 39,000, with the lowest attended game previously recorded in 1999 at 32,680.

WAFC said the 2016 round 20 Western Derby attendance was also well below average, and they hoped to entice more punters to this weekend's game with "1995 pie prices" in a last ditch effort to set a new attendance record.

Domain Stadium will offer pies for $3 - reduced from $5.20 - at all West Deli outlets until supplies sell out.

"We are calling on all footy fans to get along to the last Western Derby at Domain Stadium, to see if we can break the all-time Derby record for attendance," WAFC chief executive officer Gavin Taylor said.

"With over 40,000 fans expected to be in attendance the atmosphere for the match should be electric and will take the total crowd figure for all 46 Derbies to more than 1.8 million."

WAFC spokesman Steve Tuohey said it was important Fremantle members who couldn't attend put up their seats for re-sale, and for fans to check out remaining tickets available on Ticketmaster.

Low ticket sales could also be due to both sides sitting outside of the top eight, with the Eagles sitting at ninth and the Dockers occupying twelfth spot.

Bookies have West Coast tipped to take out Derby number 46, after it was confirmed several key Dockers continued to remain in doubt for Sunday afternoons clash.

Defenders Michael Johnson and Joel Hamling both failed to train on Wednesday, while Lee Spurr and Sean Darcy trained away from the group.

Speedy midfielder Bradley Hill also left the group session early.

Defender Tom Sheridan and youngster Brady Grey have already been ruled out due to injury, while former captain David Mundy is set to return from illness.

In more bad news for the Dockers, it seems West Coast power forward Josh Kennedy could also be making his return for the side after a six week stint on the sidelines.
